Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Look, I've tried very hard to contain my thoughts about the way the US has been handling this. I just can't contain it anymore.

Is there a point in which you think, despite how rabidly #MAGA you might be, that Donald Trump is "not quite there"?

Mass graves in New York? #MAGA

You mean these, correct?

Being modern-day Pirates? #MAGA

Reopening your country, before you've 'flattened the curve'? #MAGA

No. He seems to be the only one who really cares. At least in my state, from the governor down to the ignorant fuck who is my county's medical officer, there are just a bunch of people on power trips. They give not flying fuck one about the effect their power trips are having on us animals, which they consider us to be.

President Trump isn't perfect by any means, but he's doing his best. No training possible to handle a calamity like the ChiCom Flu.

Added to prevent a double post.

The pushbacks keep coming.

Same as they repeat the same question hoping for a different answer, if it was me I'd simply go "anyone asking any variation of a question already asked will not be allowed any follow up questions."

I suspect the MSM would mature very quickly then.
I'd love to see Trump start doing this at his pressers (and enforce it by having offenders escorted out and their credentials revoked to make room for someone potentially more mature/professional), but as we saw with that hack Jim Acosta all they do is whine louder when they get smacked on the nose with rolled-up newspaper and threaten to sue.

I still think his best presser move of late has been shoving their own words down their throats by airing their broadcasts back at them. I laughed when I saw the video of him doing it, and I laughed even harder when I read afterward that CNN and MSNBC cut away like the little bitches they are when his video started playing. Absolute cowards. I have no idea how they thought that could possibly make them look good, especially since the other networks did air it (and everyone capped/forwarded it afterward too).

Didn't they literally sue, and a TDS judge said that the 1st Amendment says that Acosta can do whatever he wants?

Did you actually notice I used an 'at least' qualifier?

I can't see our borders reopening to tourism until the end of this year, next Feb I reckon.

But, please. Remind me when we're burying people in mass graves in the middle of our most populous city.
I feel like a little clarification is needed on the "mass graves in New York city" city thing -

I know they whined to a judge and got at least a temporary injunction preventing them from specifically excluding Acosta from participating at the pressers, but my aging creaky memory wants to say the WH responded by just booting out CNN entirely for a few days until everyone's temper calmed down and Acosta promised to be a good boy again.

I'd go look up the truth but 1) lol good luck with modern day search engines -- packed full of lies, 2) I'm lazy tonight and 3) my version is funnier in my head than the truth would be (unless the truth is they torched Acosta with a flame thrower then kicked CNN out).

Trump cant tell the State governors what to do on this. That has always been the rub. Trump can order the federal workers back to work, order the States to no longer do "is this essential travel" stops on Federal highways and open international ports of entry. Barring stuff like that, the State Governors have pretty wide latitude.

It's like everyone, including the States it should be noted, forgot this was a federal system of government. American Politics is going to be interesting over the coming years. It's not like all these state officials are suddenly going to forget they had all this power all along.

I think you are missing the fact that half of what the governors are doing is illegal.
'Deprivation of civil rights under color of law' is both a civil and criminal cause of action.

So a couple of doctors in my area are offering COVID tests for $50, but it's a finger prick and blood sample. Isn't that for the antibodies? I thought the swab was to see if you were actively infected?
I haven't heard that finger prick blood tests have been proven thus far. I think the UK got suckered into buying some of them.

If you think you have it, ask for the swab test.

Edit:

This one. It's horrible, but very reliable.

You mean the holding pits because the mayor and governor didn't do their jobs?
It's being done on an island used as the final resting place of the destitute.
You don't have the population density for that.

r9k rules for press conferences should be Based. Actually, come to think of it he could fuck with them even more if he had an Impartial R9K Girl, basically an intern in a robot suit. He'd look over at her and she'd shake her head for 'variation' or nod for 'new question'. Except of course sometimes she'd rule questions a variation based on very dubious logic resulting in whole days of wailing and gnashing of teeth from the media. Also, every single question from Jim Acosta would be ruled a variation, without exception.

Is this why the Spanish let the autists wander outside, to prevent this kind of thing?

I think this is the mental state some people in power are aiming for, tbh

On a serious note; the continuous data blast of numbers, speculation, theories and the need to keep cross referencing everything to make sure what your reading is not old news, bullshit etc can jelly the brain. It might even become a specific mental disorder with the combination of information/disinformation, stress, anxiety and paranoia .

PCSD - Post Covid Stress Disorder perhaps

Then the people in power are fucking up. Plenty of us out here can mentally handle any abuse these bastards shove up our asses and push back. Far as I can tell, it's the people in "power", except for the President, who don't seem to have much capability for rational thinking. If they did, the number of angry people in the country would be shrinking rather than growing, and much of the country would be free of these fucking house arrests.

As an aside, I can only imagine how much damage has been done to the reputation of law enforcement and the justice system in many places throughout the country. When you issue a $1000 ticket to a person on the shore fishing all by himself, or you tell people "Protest is non-essential", you should expect people to have no respect for you whatsoever.

Pushbacks are just going to grow. Sadly, seems like a just a matter of time before they become violent. The harsher the quarantine, the harder the pushback.
