Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Just leaving this here:
Little hypocritical of me but I only started to feel annoyed by the quarantine once the ptb started seriously enforcing laws around grocery stores at my area.

I wanted to buy cheap clothing but only one person per household is allowed to enter the store :-/

Which brought up another question of mines: Travel is pretty much discouraged, but what if it is a case of "I'm moving to stay with my relative in another state to wait that out, because I'm not dealing with that". Allowed or no go?
Which is even more considering because while the weather outbreak happened, shelters stayed closed just because of the virus, leading to a fair amount of people losing their lives.
Allowed in LA. I have several young friends who have flown home to Mom and Dad. Flights keep getting cancelled though.

flipland update as of April 16, 2020
summary.png

The LGUs are drawing a roadmap on possible partial reopening of malls (more than just grocery) after the quarantine period.
Power company has pledged to waive bills of households that only consume 50 kilowatt per hour or less electricity.
Tomorrow, the local tv network will show a documentary by Howie Severino: I am patient PH 2828. where the award winning documentary maker Howie Severino contracted and survived the wuflu

Anyway, as for the sperging in the thread. I feel sorry for the burgers. the liberal idiots made it their life mission to ruin Trump, even at the cost of the lives of fellow burgers. When Duterte said its total lockdown time, everyone scrambled to get it done. When Trump said travel ban, liberal idiots wants people to hug chinky chinks and let them coof on you. But then again, Duterte is a real hard-ass motherfucker, he was a member of CAFGU

Trump is right that by May 1 we need to start looking at lifting the lockdowns no matter where things stand.
Hand in hand with what some other people have posted, restrictions should be reevaluated May 1. Based on the level of ongoing outbreaks in a given area, keeping restrictions as-is might be best for hot spots. However, if there's evidence the curve has flattened in an area, it might be time to gradually lift restrictions while encouraging voluntary masking/social distancing. That strikes a balance between continued easing of restrictions and having to roll them back if or when another flareup occurs.

The whole fucking thing should be automated online or over the phone,
Can't speak for other states, but mine has had a phone system for over 20 years now. After entering an identifier and self-selected PIN, one answers a series of questions with 1 for yes, 2 for no, and the entire keypad to report any needed dollar amounts that might be requested. Upon submission of the information, one is told what happens next.

Eventually, the state eliminated in-person branch offices in favor of people using the phone system or their then-new online system. Only those claims with something out of the ordinary trigger a letter and possible interaction with a live person. The biggest problem right now is that the system was never apparently stress tested enough to handle the unprecedented volume of claims being submitted.

People having savings is the greatest indicator of wealth.
I have to disagree because there are plenty of people that get paid decent money and still spend it all or live beyond their means with no interest in saving any of it whereas some people who eke out a living might be able to save a little something even if it's not enough to cover a major expense.

Some liberal arts student drew this form of pure cringe
Doesn't even make sense.
(...)
Why does the Earth look like a weathermap with virus icons instead of chance of showers?
While I get that those are suppose to be hits of the coof, they look like more like alien creatures or mutant bedbugs than viruses.

Same as they repeat the same question hoping for a different answer, if it was me I'd simply go "anyone asking any variation of a question already asked will not be allowed any follow up questions."
I'd love to see Trump start doing this at his pressers (and enforce it by having offenders escorted out and their credentials revoked to make room for someone potentially more mature/professional), but as we saw with that hack Jim Acosta all they do is whine louder when they get smacked on the nose with rolled-up newspaper and threaten to sue.
The media doing this at any sort of press conference is annoying. I wish more officials would stand up to the media and call them out for asking repetitive or off-topic questions. Even if the reporters have a First Amendment right to attend, they may learn fast that the right doesn't guarantee them the right to ask questions or have inappropriate ones answered if they were to find themselves ignored at subsequent conferences.

I forgot it was Thursday. (Forgive me. Every day has just...melted into one lately.)
That's the one thing I've noticed ever since i was required to work at home. Every day feels the same now. Hang in there, fam. :feels:

All I know is that I want this pandemic to go away, I hope none of my family members or friends get it, and I want life to go back to normal.
I'm pretty sure many of us share the same sentiment. Stay safe.

China's Wuhan city revises up total coronavirus death toll by 1,290 up 50%, 325 confirmed cases

Factually speaking, CHINA LIED. Wuhan city just revised the death count up to 3,869 from 2,579. 325.
Everybody already knew China was lying, but if they're finally correcting the numbers by jumping it up so much, clearly it's the least of deaths. Why is it so bad they can't slowly dole out the deaths rather then deny it until it's undeniable?
Acting this way makes it seem like it's the only option they have because it's worse then slowly distorting your numbers.

My immediate thought -- If they're using bluetooth and not the phone itself, they can do shit like put in external scanners for this shit at stores, stop lights, et cetera, and thus would know whomever goes near something or wherever you go without your permission, and no way to opt out. Yeah, the theory is, pandemic only, but the Patriot Act was supposed to be terrorism only and has been used to target center-right conservatives for the crime of disagreeing with Mastercard, so you should probably expect this shit to be used by the feds, the police, and Google AdSense as soon as people forget about it.

Sensors are fun. A fed could walk into a group of Antifa and ping, suddenly he knows every single fucking black masked idiot attending, instantly, and not only that, they could then use the bluetooth PAN feature to know what other Antifa people they meet with afterwards, where they meet them (thanks to GPS), et cetera. Instantly creating a digital contact web. Heck, it wouldn't even have to be a Fed, they could leave it in the trunk of a car on the side of the street and ping ping ping, every single person that walks by, their phone ID grabbed with a timestamp. Combine that with a hidden camera to ID individuals, maybe do this repeatedly so you can narrow it down a bit...

Oh, did you use a burner phone like a good little commie blackshirt? Well, I bet you took your burner phone home, and brought it into PAN range of your real phone. Ping!

With both Apple and Google doing it that's 99.9% of the phone market in the US. You won't be allowed to opt out.

The only option is to prevent them from doing this in the first place, but they seem to be of the opinion that your civil rights don't matter anymore because just absolutely because.

Granted they supposedly have a similar tech that uses audio instead of bluetooth. Your phone listens for a high frequency sound and dials home if it hears it, so they can make a noise and find out who all is in say, a drug house they want to raid, or what have you.

You may be aware of IMSI catchers too (often known as “Stingrays”), but for anyone who’s interested, these types of surveillance devices have been in use for quite some time. From the EFF, here’s a good primer: http://archive.li/gs2UG

A couple of interesting articles -

I saw someone on Twitter that as soon as the crisis affects journalist's salaries and jobs, we'll see more stories about ending the lockdown. Lo and behold, here they come. NPR is facing a 16 to 25 million dollar deficit, Vox. Conde Nast, and the Los Angeles Times are all furloughing workers. I feel like the days of "Just sit at home and watch Netflix while getting food via grubhub forever and ever" is coming to an end.

I'm not worried about catching the virus at this point. I'm worried about everything else. People support the lockdown and the governors now, but what's going to happen in a few months if the economy doesn't come roaring back and people are facing of being a Domino's delivery guy for the rest of their lives or their children not being able to go to college? What's going to happen in the summer if people can't go to the beach but they've got the cops hassling them because their three-year-old isn't wearing a facemask properly. Are we going to see riots? Are people going to start shooting at politicians? I hate to sound like a doomer, but I really worry the situation in this country is about to get a lot uglier.

People are not supporting the governors and the house arrests like they used to. I never have. Been more and more pushback. Yesterday Raleigh, NC police tweeted that "Protests are non-essential". The angry responses to that utter bullshit came hard and fast. At the rate things are going, I can see violent protests and possibly other actions happening.

Forgot I had this bit of video from twitter. From this tweet:

I'm inclined to treat that twitter account as trustworthy, but if this video isn't what's being claimed then a little debunking is equally welcome.

May wish to keep in mind the stores/banks/etc. that have treated you shabbily. When the house arrest is lifted take your business elsewhere.

China's Wuhan city revises up total coronavirus death toll by 1,290 up 1/3rd, 325 confirmed cases

The US just put in its latest coronavirus death report. We are very close to 35,000. China is barely claiming 3,000. The numbers simply do not add up. There is no way in a hell a country of 350 million people can report 12 times the number of fatalities as a country with 1.3 Billion people.

There is simply no getting around it at this point, and you can see even the most dense media pundits realizing the inevitable truth. China is lying. China has BEEN lying. To quote the horrendously prophetic "Chernobyl"; "The truth doesn’t care about our needs or wants - it doesn’t care about our governments, our ideologies, our religions - to lie in wait for all time. This at last is the gift of Chernobyl. Where I once would fear the cost of truth, now I only ask what is the cost of lies."

The cost of China's lies are becoming very obvious. And no amount of shilling can stop people from realizing it.

I like that a cow is on the street going "what the fuck is this?.... oh shit they comin near me, fuck"

so is the virus actually as bad as people say it is or is it not that deadly? its pretty confusing to me when the media keeps changing its mind like they were talking about needing more ventilators but now they are not needed and damage lung tissue. whatever the case im sick of staying at home.

I think this is part of the frustration. For most of us, it ranges from zero symptoms to a bad flu. But for some people (largely those with pre-existing conditions or who are old) it's a really solid punch in the gut and can take you all the way down. And it's a bit of a dice roll whether you go down badly or not.

Personally I'd like to think I'm young and healthy, but what if I'm wrong and it gets me and I die? Nobody's really safe, so everybody panics.

Do Spanish hate Latin Americans?

The ultrarightwing does, vehemently. Except for specifically argentina. Feel free to make as many exiled nazi jokes as you please...

But you seem to misunderstand my post. I was trying to describe that cunt as best as I could because I can't for the life of me remember her. She's blonde, she's argentinian (and can't fucking shut up qbout how proud she is of having "triple nationality"), she's btw some kinda nobility because her dady was some general that fought for franco or some shit like that I don't remember, and she just so happens to be a complete and total bitch. I didn't mean to say being argentinian was related to being a bitch. She's both things though.

Where are they pulling tthe claims that "suicide and drug addiction will increase dramtically as a result of a closed economy"? Wouldn't drug use go down due to a lack of money? Sounds like 1970 propaganda shit to me.

1. Lots of states, amid all of the shutdowns, are allowing beer, wine, and spirits/liquor stores to remain open. Addicts will not give a shit if they're limiting food to buy liquor.

2. There are countless stories about the longest lines people have faced have been to purchase weed in the states where it's legal.

3. People are still getting prescriptions ... With nothing else to do amid the shutdowns, of course people may be abusing those drugs.

4. If the law doesn't stop people from buying or selling illegal substances, then a shutdown certainly won't stop them ... Especially for drug dealers, where selling the said-substances are the only means of "income" for them right now.

5. Trumpbux. Wouldn't be shocked if addicts pissed them away for their substances.

So yes ... It's extremely likely that substance abuse has skyrocketed during this crisis.

What difference does the pandemic cause compared to before? I doubt social distancing will cause more overdoses than usual, or even suicides (unless you work in the stock market).

Long story short. People start doing some really stupid shit after being locked long enough. That's why prison nowadays have like 50000 different things to do in them, studies showed if you don't keep 'em busy they'll get addicted to the most random shit.

Here in spain while stats are yet to come out I'm fairly certain drug consumption has gone heavily down but that's because our cops have been taking advantage of the lockdown to fuck morocco, and unlike burgerlanders we didn't loose the war on drugs.
