Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

That honestly makes me wonder even more how this motherfucker got ahold of this shit. It seems like that’s a strange thing to put on a box of masks that’s going to the Deep South. Are they literally just shipping shit out every box of shit they can find to make people think they didn’t crash the world economy? Aren’t they going to need all of it when the 2nd wave inevitably hits upon them fully reopening?

https://web.archive.org/web/20200418065954/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiayou#Usage

During the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic that broke out first in the city of Wuhan in Hubei province, the phrase "Wuhan jiayou!" was a common expression of solidarity throughout social and news media but also in public with the city which went under lockdown. Videos soon surfaced online on January 23 of Wuhan residents chanting the phrase, roughly translatable to "Stay strong, Wuhan!" or "Keep on going, Wuhan!", through of their windows to neighbours with many joining in to the chorus to echo across the high-rise buildings of the city.[8][9]

The phrase was also used to express international solidarity with Wuhan. Relief boxes of face masks sent to Wuhan because of a shortage by its sister-city of Oita in Japan were labelled with "Wuhan jiayou!"[10] On February 2, the UAE declared "We support Wuhan, and the Chinese communities around the world" and projected the phrase "Wuhan jiayou!" onto the Burj Khalifa in Dubai as a message of solidarity.[11]

I think these masks were made for Wuhan and then diverted for export because the CCP would rather have export shekels and has announced that the problem in Wuhan was solved a month ago so Wuhan doesn't need the masks.

Remember when everyone was mad about the British herd immunity plan and then it turns out that was apparently actually a good idea?

Truly Gods over men the British government.

If the case fatality rate ends up being 1% herd immunity would have killed 400K people in the UK. At the time it was announced there were signs the case fatality rate could be higher than that in Italy.

Now since then, it seems like there's a high asymptomatic carrier rate but we still don't know what that is. Even if that brings down the CFR to 0.1% you're still looking at 40K deaths in the UK to get to the 60% or so you'd need for herd immunity.

As of now the UK has had 14K deaths and is about at the peak of the first wave, which means it is about halfway through the total death rate. So it's looking at about 28K deaths.

In the 1918 pandemic, there were signs that lockdowns worked.

I dunno. If I'd have been Boris I'd have switched from herd immunity to lock down when the first Ferguson report came out. Or even after doing a back of the envelope calculation of the numbers that would die given various CFRs to get to the herd immunity level.

I think the UK response so far has been alright. They worked on the data they had - none of that data seems to have been totally accurate but it doesn’t look like anyone’s was.
They should get over this peak of cases then switch to a model more like the Swedish one - the elderly and vulnerable stay home and everyone else goes back to work. They can do it in stages if they’re worried about cases surging again.
The uk population has been OK about lockdown so far, but I think that will change if and when their jobs disappear and the weather is nice. I’m seeing a lot of people showing signs of stress. Timing it so that the response is useful and proportionate and people don’t feel it’s pointless/too draconian is key. Whatever is used to handle this needs to be something that can be done for months without crashing the economy or stressing the populace too much.

People getting pissed about the lockdowns makes sense for a few reasons:

- Few people are making money. Savings being eaten alive. Survival instincts kicking in.
- The majority of the country is either minorly affected or not testing that much. Lack of spread of thr virus, which means no epicenters around them.
- Americans don't have the discipline for a long-term lockdown. We've never had restrictions of freedom and we hate being told the word "no". I think this is a lot worse than the consensus on here now and even I'm getting restless from being cooped up.

I still feel it's too early to lift the lockdowns, but everyone was told this was supposed to be a two-week, temporary situation. We're over a month in. People are pissed and want their lives back. They don't want to worry about bills or long-term debt issues.

I'm just worried opening up this soon could end up being a mistake. Hope I'm wrong.

Briefly tuned into Nick's Stream apperantly there's going to be a protest in Austin tomorrow and Nashville Sunday needless to say people have had enough. My prediction if the goveners don't start opening things back up we could see riots.
Its like the difference between Brave New World and 1984, unless you have the bread and circuses to take people's mind off their suffering people wont allow themselves to be subjected for very long. All the tv shows and news and social media is about this fucking thing. And people are stuck inside without jobs its making people get fed up.

You can't help but wonder how much the Chinese government knew and when they knew it. Maybe their initial data was that this was a disaster and they covered that up but later data pointed to the high asymptomatic case rate and they covered that up too. To be fair to them even if they had have released data on a high asymptomatic case rate and hence a low CFR I'd have assumed it was a CCP trick to make us open up, die and for them to inherit the Earth and recommended an immediate nuclear attack on Beijing.

Better we all go out in a blaze of thermonuclear glory than let those red bastards take over.

So WHO doesn't understand antibodies. The virus has not mutated enough for that to be true. But we all know why they say it. WHO wants the west to tank so their overlords can take over the world.

Much more likely chalk is used as a cutting agent. The market has no place for pure products (more is better!), it's like an IQ test for addicts along the lines of Piaget's conservation of volume.

Been long since I checked but what I read was more along the lines of "white dust + placebo effect = happy idiots until the actual medical withdrawal kicks into high gear.

The guy who discovered HIV / AIDS says that SARS-COV-2 is man made and was accidentally released from a lab in China.

How sad that Zerohedge would let a conspiracy nut like... Professor Luc Montagnir, 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine... speak about something he obviously has no idea about.

His only "evidence" is the thoroughlt debunked indian paper @pull over dat ass too fat destroyed with basic BLAST. Having a nobel means nothing. Specially when only thing this idiot did was check a fucking microscope and say "YO! I SEE HIV PARTICLES!!!" He's like the medical expert equivalent to a god damned diversity hire, they gave him the award due to alphabet soup politics, not merit. But EVEN IF he was a true genius with a massive career and multiple nobels with actual merit behind them, his evidence is still garbage. Now remember, I do think it escaped a lab, but I KNOW it has no HIV genes in it. Hell I'm willing to accept it's synthetic despite my arguments to the contrary, (specially after @Stoneheart destroyed one of them by simply pointing out RNA=/=DNA) but NOT an HIV hybrid, we have found no HIV genes in it. We already debunked this hypothesis, only difference is last time it was indians telling us and this time it's a god damned gay baguette, and btw the indians were better at it because at least they showed the fucking data this asshole just pointed at them and then proclaimed "muh I dubly checked and it be totes fur realsies yawh." That's not a good fucking argument.

Gah! I made the mistake of looking at Facebook (I know I know, in my defense I was drunk) only to be inundated with virtue signaling psychotic head games from New York Liberal Family Members shrieking "For Shame! How dare you wish to leave your hovels! Don't you know how hard Nurses work! Here's one that even saw 4 dead bodies! If You Protest or demand to be let out you will be responsible for those 4 dead bodies. Think how their parents must feel" and similar insane drivel. You just want to scream back at these fools, "at least you have jobs! You know your mortgage will be met. You've put food on your table. "

Some older lady I'm Facebook friends with shared this post from some hysterical liberal boomer page. I read through the comments and it's almost scary how many people believe this shit.

I bet when Michelle Williams explained how she sacrificed her baby to get a literal golden idol people like her thought it was stunning and brave.

UK Daily for Friday, 17th of April:

438,991 Tested (+21,328 )

108,692 Positive (+5,599)

14,579 Dead (+891)

Looks like the plateau is back off, probably from dozy bastards breaking lockdown...

The fact it took a while for messaging from the government to become somewhat consistent was a key factor I think. Police forces acting like petty tossers hasn't helped and lead to stress as well. I'm seeing some stress from neighbours, but there's also still a decent enough camaraderie when it matters.

Hell, every COMMERCIAL is about it too. Every 10 minutes some brand is telling me to stay inside and reassuring me about blah blah blah I'm so sick of it.

FTFY

And the fun doesn't get started until the governors and mayors extending these lockdowns respond to the (inevitable at this point in some places) riots with even MORE draconian and authoritarian measures.

Whatever your (big "your") opinion may be on this, it's clear that this is going to turn into a complete shitshow by the time it's over. Thanks China!

Morning news roundup. Morale is high, nice interview to Fernando Simon and some twat minister I don't know which but at least he was competent when he talked about science so that's helped quite a bit. The radicals are seriously loosing this battle. Government's saying kids will be out in a day or two (fucking lol at countries planning for 1st may overe here we're like "so how bout monday?", the WHO and EU trying to keep people locked are basically being ignored. Really hope that pact happens ASAP we need the economic push, despite the PYMEs going into overdrive many are still going broke and being laid off, we can't afford to stay idle. Media finally caught on to the fact china and the WHO always lie but of course they won't admit Trump was right, they just say the same thing he said a month ago while still criticizing him because TDS is fucking strong. Hospital's fine, nothing new on that front, hope you're also having a nice enough time. We'll get out of this soon enough, and with China collapsing we'll see a LOT less diseases in general if their border gets fucked. Good times are coming soon enough.
