Instagram influencers are having to slash their rates as their income starts to dry up because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The demand for social media stars promoting products has diminished after the Australian economy was brought to a crashing halt as the crisis took a tighter grip.
Hundreds of businesses were forced to close when the government ramped up social distancing measures last month to slow the spread of the deadly illness.
And now influencers are doing whatever it takes to ensure brands continue to book them.
One influencer dropped their fee for a post from $5,000 to $2,000, while another star who was charging a fee of $1350 for a post is now charging $600.

'Some, not all, are offering 50 per cent reductions,' Sarah Gale, managing director of public relations firm AMPR told the Daily Telegraph.
Model Rozalia Russian has been doing some posts for free to support Australian businesses during the downturn.
'It’s not about cancelling jobs and campaigns, what we have done with all my clients is put things on hold or tweaked the overall strategy until we come out of this.
'Until that time, I will continue supporting my brands and clients in any way I can, even if it means shooting some at-home content for them at no charge, because we really need to stick together and support each other so we can all get through this.'

Influencers are having to be careful how they market to their audience during the crisis as certain posts could be seen as poor taste, Roxy Jacenko, of social media agency Ministry of Talent, said.
She said now is not the time to be posting images of yourself in flash cars or on lavish getaways because 'the world is hurting'.

When I empathize with influencers I see myself obsessing over likes and subs and trying to organize "deals" with advertisers, all the while chatting with guys on the side who say they'll pay $3000 money down to tap dat. Seems like I'd be a neurotic person.
I get far more done from home, and most of the rest of the people I work with are the same, so this is great for me because it's going to mean all the people who thought "working from home" meant you only stop jerking off when you have a zoom meeting and your boss makes you put the webcam on are revealed as unproductive wastes of time and will not be competing for the same jobs that I go for any more.

Unfortunately add revenue is down pretty bad all over. Addvetaising is one those money holes that are easy to cut as most lucrative customers tend be repeat and/or habbit buyers. You can do the important customer relationship maintance pretty easily on your own free with personal contact or mass email so right now large campaigns that target more new customers aren't worth of the investment.

But I have a hard time believing Wanda the accounts coordinator who doesn't get in until 9, takes a two hour lunch, and punches out at 4 (3 on Friday) and never takes work home or gets involved in anything after hours is going to be massively more productive doing everything from home. These are the office types I deal with. Either low-waged drones or the salaried untouchables who cut every corner and blame their failures on us operations guys.
The amount of times they have called me with a major disruption at 4pm on a Friday (finally returning my calls that I have been lighting up all week because they screwed up the paperwork) and went "lol bye, let me know how it went on Monday" makes me inherently distrustful of them having less oversight than they have now. Accountability for their mistakes is near zero as it is.

My most sincere wish would be just that, or worse. But I ain't their boss, just a knuckle-dragging operations guy, and since none of the shit falls on them directly they aren't about to change it. Plus, Becky and Wanda are cheap.
Their boss figured out a while ago that selling national accounts and then cutting all the corners works just fine if you carve off a bit and put it into escrow to pay for the fuckups. Especially if that money comes not out of their pockets but from the commission of those who actually do the work (yours truly). I guess I could fight it out with them at HQ but guess who sits on the board of directors and sets policy.
So, yeah. I don't see work-from-home for the office weenies as a panacea.

We're the same at my office. It depends a lot on level of responsibility and office culture. There will be plenty slacking off around the world though. Personally I haven't spoken to my line or project manager on about 2 weeks, I'm just being let get on with my job and it's great. Though most of the people in my office did a day a week of home working before this mess anyway so it's not a new thing.
