Fanfiction Horrors

For some reason a lot of people have a very strong hate boner for Barney. To the point of autistically a-logging the show, it's just a kids show not a snuff film.
The only person who is justified in his hatred for Barney is the dude who was completely paralyzed for years to the point that everyone thought he was a vegetable, and he was forced to watch that show over and over again.

Well it technically does since it is a fanfiction AND a cosmic horror story.

I think it'd count a little if it has a rabid fanbase with fans acting like speds over it, but far as I can tell, it doesn't.

Oh fuck, this is similar to that Parappa the Rapper fic in going into the brain, isn't it? Judging by the title, anyway.

No. That has to be exactly what I'm thinking it is. I'm using my birthday pass to nope myself out of one fanfic for the day because I want to try to love myself today. That's a "No. Mm-mm, nope, nope, nope. That's a negative" for me.

(Also anyone's free to steal this for themselves. Love yourself on your one day.)

M'kay I'm trying to read this, but for one thing, it's a 21,000-word one-shot. I like a good long story to read myself, but not when it looks like this.

First off, emphasizing words in all-caps is actually more annoying than it looks since it just makes the characters act like they have Tourette's SHOUTING at random. Italics/bold exists for a reason.

Second, it's taken about 4,000 words to get to this point. The writer thinks he's smart enough to stuff so much information (like he was drawing the whole thing frame by frame) in everything when the fat could've been trimmed to get here faster. Nothing flows naturally like some algorithm or robot shat this out, it's stilted narrative that it makes the tone a mess and an uninteresting read to the point my eyes were glazing since the first paragraph. If the author literally believes in the "one page = one minute" or "1,000 words = one minute", that is some insanity and further backs up my feeling this was written out with an algorithm. No human could write like this and think it looks "good".

Third, too many parentheses. They're being used more for author's notes interruptions and script-like cues than to give a brief aside. It's distracting and disrupts the flow even more.

Fourth, the fourth wall breaks would've worked nicely if the fic was written well enough to feel like a Courage the Cowardly Dog episode instead of some stilted schizophrenic fever dream that I know the show can handle with such prestige if only because it uses the visual medium to its fullest potential. If it was to point out the author is fucked enough in the head to do this that Di Lung is basically a stand-in/mouthpiece for the author, it fails miserably and just brings the eye-rolling and groaning.

And fifth, Eustace and Muriel are out-of-character (not sure about Di Lung, but probably). It's been ages since I last saw the show, but they've never acted like that and said such terrible stuff to each other. If there's supposed to be meta humor or whatnot in their characters, I can't see it unless these two aren't the actual characters and were replaced with robots or aliens prior to the start of the story and are acting how they think a grumpy elderly couple would act toward each other after studying them from afar. But I'm not seeing anything that suggests this is to be the case in this story.

Reading this is making my brain hurt trying to process all of this, and it's boring me on top of that. And I haven't even reached what's supposed to be the... meat of this thing. Fail. How did Reddit react to this, anyway?

EDIT: And this is the most mind-achingly boring satire I think I've ever had the displeasure of reading. Everything I mentioned above still rings true, but it really comes to a head in how awful the comedic timing is once he hits Muriel's brain. The guy seriously has to describe everything that's happening. Like this moment:

Trim all of that fat and this moment could've been funny. This fuck can't write comedy to save his life which I think is the biggest sin of this fic.

I posted these in another thread, but they keep updating and are written by four separate people. Where are these guys coming from?

Yeah, no. None of these are cute in anyway shape or form.
I get the authors intentions where to write soms form of fluff, but reading a bunch of stories where an adult or older teen mentally regresses to a small child and has to be taken care by those around them is more horribly depressing. They also still read like fetish fics, but at least with those it's spank material if you're into the kink. These just appeal to no one.

My first exposure to this was a (mercifully short, far as I can remember) TMNT fic where Raphael in backstory got into a horrific accident that caused such severe brain damage it reverted his cognitive and motor skills back to that as a toddler. It was rather depressing so I didn't finish it, but I do not recall anywhere that it was mentioned as "age regression" because it was treated seriously.

That's where I think it got fetishized was when it got a fucking label and suddenly people started obsessing over it. It probably also stems back to the manchild mentality but for fujoshits who despite telling the world they don't conform to gender roles still deep down want to baby someone, or want to be babied.

I read a fic like that once (it was so long ago, I can't remember the fandom) where a character slowly recovered from their brain damage over time. It wasn't creepy because it was supposed to be sad, not horny. Now whether or not it was well written is another story.
