MOD NOTE:

There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

If it was what the Japanese media said it was, rocket man is screwed. That sort of heart attack is survivable, if you get taken into surgery immediately. People survive it by CPR on the scene, followed by intensive measures on a hopefully quick ambulance ride and getting dragged into the operating room immediately on arrival. Having to wait hours? It's a miracle he's only a vegetable and not dead already.
It sounds alot like the thing that happened to an elderly family member of mine. he felt over while screaming about his heart. CPR from a former nurse and a quick flight with the medical chopper for a Stent operation. he was out 2 days later and lived 15 more years to the age of 89 when he died of beeing a chainsmoking alcoholic.

Japanese media reported rocket man had a heart attack and needed a stent put in to break a clot. But nobody in North Korea could do the procedure and they had to fly in someone who could. The delay caused kim to lapse into a vegetative state.

Also lol at having a fucking coronary at 36. His people die of having too little food and he dies due to eating too much. It's like poetry. It rhymes.

Yeah.. that news is coming from the chinks.
It's exactly what they told Chang Seong-Min, it seems it's a pass-on of that.

1000% would not be the actual way it happened at all. He's been bumped for Jong-Yo.

The sister is bad news. You can see it in her eyes. She has some power-hungry Azula vibes and I don't doubt for a second she might try to pull off the regency thing until the heir "mysteriously dies of an accident".

The thing is, I doubt she will be able to control the generals or even the State security apparatus. She may try, but the moment she tries to go ham fist on someone important they will fight back. It wasn't so long ago Jong-Un did purges. I doubt anyone important is in the mood for another round so soon.

Also... the North Koreans couldn't even put in a stent? JESUS CHRIST.

I watched a documentary years ago where a South Korean doctor went on mission to the north where they had gathered a few dozen people who hadn't been able to see for years and performed cataract surgery on them all.

It only took a couple days if I remember correctly, yet it was to much for the Norks to handle in any amount of time. I wouldn't surprise me if they had a Chinese contact on speed dial for an eventuality like this.

If the the elite songbun can’t grab control, the military or Un’s terrifying sister will take one of his sons as use him a a regent/ pawn to claim legitimacy. In some ways Un’s sister is in a prime position to consolidate power for herself but she can not be the public face - it must be a man. I could easily see her installing one of her newphews or a blood relation General to be the face of power while she actually holds the reigns. I’m sure someone will claim to rule on behalf of one of Un’s son until he is of age to rule.

What’s interesting is who will NK blame for his death? You’d think USA or SK but they will probably have to pick a internal power or group that they believe has a chance at taking power so they can eradicate any threat to their conslidation of power in the vacuum.

Does Un have a son? I thought the only known child was a daughter? The brother hekilled only had 2 daughters with his official wife, although there may be a ton of Malaysian Hooker babies out there. I don't think the sister lasts 10 minutes in power. She was already driven from the politburo, and only brought back last weekend. Much of the Leadership and China hate her. If she is back it is as a figurehed only. Nobody is giving her any sharp objects. If anyones in charge it will be China and they will install a compliant cousin or uncle, (one that hasn't been killed by anti-aircraft artillery yet.) At any signs of fighting warlords or instability the PLA will march in and have a few words.

According to Dennis Rodman their child is a daughter so she may be out of the running for the Supreme Leader spot if the Norks aren't too hot on the idea of a female ruler.

Stalin 2.0 indeed... dead from medical emergency that nobody could solve because all the doctors had been purged as traitors, and nobody else stepped forward for want of being "the one" accused of fucking up on purpose if they failed to revive him.

Damn I'd love to see that. I'm not optimistic though, women's lot in shitholes is usually terrible no matter their station (see: Saudi princesses).

If she wasn't married, I'd expect her to go to be forced to marry a representative of the winner faction on the ensuing power struggle or his son. But she IS married, and I think it already happened, power struggle and all, and Un himself is/was a figurehead. The real power was (and maybe still is) Yo-jong's father-in-law.

I don't expect the Kim dynasty to remain in even nominal power. In a partocratic system (see: Soviet Union) there comes a time when every old fart at death's door wants to have a piece of the cake, and there aren't enough Kim heirs to marry their sons and daughters, so the Kim name as a sign of legitimacy will become irrelevant real fast.

That's Cold War very special episode bullshit.

Fitting, as NK is the last vestige of the Cold War still being actively fought. Barbed-wire borders, nukes, defectors, internal coups, bombastic propaganda and all......

The Norks took even Soviet style silliness too far. Even in Russia there was a certain level of "tongue in cheek" to much of it. In best korea though, they decided that they would take all the silly stuff even the Russians thought was silly very seriously. That and went ahead with creating what is essentially a dynastic monarchy.

Just like her brothers...

It's sort of depressing; watching what's left of the world from my childhood die off.

Sure.... NK is a shithole communist hermit state, but at least they could be relied upon to fulfill that role while not fucking shit up for everyone else. The Norks kept things interesting regionally, but not in the same world-ending way as what came from the old combloc.
