From how I see it, their strategy is to desperately recreate the "meme magic" they had circa 2014-16 when right wing politics were making some comeback with a younger demographic, when there was a growing wave of disdain towards the far left/SJW/Tumblr types, and when posting memes about them was trendy. That's what got many of them into this and they feel by recreating this they can get more people to their side again.

There's multiple problems with this strategy but the biggest one is that social media platforms are far more ban happy than they were in 2016. There's also the fact that as time has proved internet activism accomplishes fuck all in the real world unless there's some astroturfing going on (see: ResetEra's userbase of "gaming industry professionals", astroturfed groups like Sleeping Giants, and every journalist with connections writing a hit piece). Instead of learning lessons from groups that actually accomplish shit, they'd rather post memes online and go through burner social media accounts.
