That is absolutely no surprise, though. Keep in mind that:
  1. furries that attend cons, both con-goers and con staff, often come from clubbing backgrounds or are wannabe clubbers (see: ALL THE FUCKING SPARKLEDOGS-- also, ow my retinas);
  2. the average crowd for those cons is either young and inconsequent or old and batshit insane (see: disabling smoke detectors to hotbox in hotel rooms, which is a common occurrence according to a hotel staffer I know);
  3. the fandom has an unhealthy fascination with mental escapism. AKA, pretending to be a dragon. Or a girl.
Add these three things together (with a dash of "overworked con staff" to taste) and the flippant attitude towards substance (ab)use and impaired mental states makes perfect sense. There's a line between "breezy and carefree" and "criminally irresponsible", and a lot of people in those cons fly right over that line with jets stuffed up their asses.

Hell, that may actually be some of their incredibly specific kinks.

So for some background on this, VRChat tries to be a safe for work VR chatroom as opposed to Second Life with it's porn reputation. Go look at the VRChat ToS, it explicitly bans pornography and tries to be a 13+ virtual world. Despite this, VRChat's popularity and ability to allow private rooms and imported user generated content means that there's plenty of NSFW private rooms and ERPers on VRChat. Here's a NSFW blog post with screenshots of one such private room, so this is a real thing. If reported to staff members these channels will get nuked but this content manages to thrive on platforms like VRChat because nobody aside from trolls/griefers rats it out to staff. It's essentially an open secret among the VRChat playerbase.

I'm not so sure about the whole situation Fennergy is quoting because the quoted tweet is gone and the original tweet deleted as well, but it wouldn't shock me. There are people on VRChat who use it as a platform for online sex.

Don't have a VR headset so I don't care enough to pay attention to that kind of shit. Probably in the minority on this but it seems almost impossible to keep porn off of anything that allows user-generated content. Only way you can have a completely SFW environment is if you just do shit the way Club Penguin did where you can't actually type & just use pre-set phrases. This change happened after like 2008-2009 maybe.

Typically, when an event signs a contract with a venue, there's a clause stipulating that if the event (ie Anthrocon) pulls out, the venue can charge a penalty. I'm guessing there's some unforeseeable event like a statewide order that forces the con to not happen on account of a ban on large gatherings of people, then Anthrocon would most likely have to be cancelled. That's my theory atm.

Most of the tweets mentioning anything related to this VRchat stuff seem to be wiped, but noticed this tweet from fennergy mentioning this Jackie guy:

The feed is full of furry kink stuff so I'll spare you all having to see it, but this is the guy with the vrchat stuff who was called out. Scrolling through their tweets, I found a link to their discord server and was greeted with this as the latest posts in an announcements channel:

I only see a handful of channels in the discord and nothing in any of them that's setting off any immediate red flags, then I notice this in the Rules channel listing of some of the roles:

Jackie's claim in the announcements seems to be that he let in a user who he knew was 16, but he didn't give them the "18+ Verified" role, thus preventing them from being able to see the NSFW channels that are hidden from my end. Assuming Jackie is telling the truth, then yes, he did let a minor in the server but barred them from most of the channels.

So to summarize, Jackie is indeed running some furry kink vrchat thing, but the claim he has willingly let minors in NSFW stuff seems iffy. The fact that Fennergy and the other furries calling him out wiped all of their tweets about it seems to confirm that.

I'm very curious to know which VRC fetish group, because the biggest one I am aware of is Lewd Market.

After reading through and doing a bit of digging, turns out that the minor, RustyDustyFox, is currently the big head of the revamped Best Bois. So whoever this Fennergy is, and with all Jackie's on about, seems once again the best bois gonna get torn a new one for it.

Edit: Also Fennergy is CasualFennec, someone who's been mentioned here...a lot.

The statement mentions that AC is going to absorb the fees behind the refunds so everyone can get their money back.

Unsurprisingly there's people who think this is the end of the world

Yep, that's probably it. Anthrocon was likely either negotiating a pull-out with the venue (don't see furries pulling out very often!), or waiting for the local government to ban gatherings so they'd have a get-out-of-jail-free card. Plus it can take a while to figure out the costs and the logistics of issuing refunds for all the tickets sold for a 4-digit attendee event.

Either way, glad they canceled it despite how long it took.

There also seems to be some self-masturbatory page about Rusty on a Wikia that seems to suggest Best Boi is some sort of public space in vrchat where people roleplay as knockoff dutch angel dragons, and Rusty ended up becoming the leader of it after some sort of mismanagement with the previous moderation.

So the situation looks bad for Rusty because it's now known he was frequenting a fetish area (even if it wasn't an 18+ area as claimed by Jackie), and it looks bad for the people who called Jackie out (eg Fennergy) for making a callout before having the facts straight.

I took another look at Jackie's twitter and it looks like he posted a tweet (archive) showing that Fennergy tried to contact him before making a callout, Jackie replied about an hour later asking what was up, and Fennergy ignored Jackie for 16-ish hours, then made a callout anyways.
