Diversity quotas leading to unqualified people being hired and a culture of fear where people are afraid to simply speak up and say "this is shit, change it" even when something is obviously not working all resulting in shit getting worse.

Take heart, we know how this infection spreads now, how to fight it, how to survive it, and most importantly, how it ends. SJW infestations take several forms. Some are worse than others.
What we have at Naughty Dog is the rare terminal infection; the ResetERA phase, where nobody can speak their mind without getting sanctioned. That the leaks came out is a direct consequence of this culture of fear. The good news is that this culture of fear inevitably creates a Coronavirus or Chernobyl scenario where the thing's clearly out of control, is cruising towards an unmitigated disaster, and the people in charge pretend otherwise to save face. Their fellow fuck-ups in the ResetERA crowd will pretend everything's fine until it, too, becomes indefensible, and then they will simply pretend they never cared in the first place, for that is their coping mechanism.
That it will fail is a bygone conclusion; the only question is a matter of degree.
This kind of infestation is actually
extremely rare in video games; it is normally only seen in movies, television, and written fiction, where the infection gets deeper than it would otherwise based on a culture of cronyism and corruption that enables it. That shit doesn't fly in gaming; a situation of this degree's only been seen a handful of times previously and every time it has it's been an equally big disaster that was eminently visible as a disaster months if not years out from its release (Mass Effect: Andromeda and Sunset coming most readily to mind).
This revelation sucks for fans of The Last of Us, but it's
fantastic news for the industry. Every time something like this fuckpocalypse fails, it tightens the noose a little bit more for the other would-be culture warriors that are still in the industry and sends the message that this shit won't be tolerated by the customers. Be prepared for the RetardERA crowd and woke Twitterati to screech about how the customers refusing to eat a giant shit sandwich is oppressing the devs, and smile to yourself knowing that because of the leaker, their little woke bubble got that tiny bit smaller.
