The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

I'm just surprised anyone had hope in a part 2 to begin with, didn't play the first game but from what I heard it ended pretty conclusively with Joel leaving that compound after saving Ellie correct me if I'm wrong because as I said didn't play it
it was pretty obvious ND wanted to make this a 1 and done back when 1 came out, jack had a sequel hook, with uncharted you could pull from indiana jones' hat and have it be different adventures, with TLoU it just always felt like a forced encore performance due to how well the game sold

Ok so supposedly giga troon beating Ellie isn't the final cutscene but the end of disk one and disk two picks up with us as Ellie again hunting down Big Mclargehuge.

That's slightly better I guess? The game still has huge problems the least of which is all the female characters looking like super mutants.

As long as we get to avenge Joel (and possibly Tommy) and kill the giga troon at the very end of the game, I would say that would slightly make up for how shitty the plot in this game really is...

The ending of the first game definitely left things open for a sequel, but it also ended in a way that had the game been standalone it would have worked just fine as well.

I was definitely a bit surprised to learn that there were really making a sequel but I figured they wouldn't do it unless they had a really good story to tell, little did I know....

I kinda wonder if the best thing to have done would have been a prequel showing more of Joel and Tommy in the early days of the outbreak and then more of what Joel got up to in the lead up to the start of the first game.

There was a 20 year timeskip, plenty of room to fill in Joel's backstory with interesting stuff.

I'm having way too much fun with these memes, man.

Nothing quite makes the point really hit home that these game studios truly hate their customers than the sight of one of them literally blocking potential customers on social media just because they dared to sass back a little.

It's just so brazen now. They really do just straight up hate us.

Tech companies see consumers as mindless paypigs. Has been that way for more than a decade.
I can't even imagine them doing a new Crash Bandicoot game in this realistic art style? OH GOD!

At least there's this video to watch.
Is that a fucking Lego Star Wars oc?

They do things that they know will piss gamers off and then act shocked, just shocked when.... gamers get pissed off.

It makes sense for him to be unlikeable in 1 though,
He was basically some parasite/virus that gained sentience, trying to figure out his memories. When he discovered those memories are fake and the real person he was impersonating is way worse than he is and long dead, he was basically disgusted at the reveal. Even then, he still tries to protect the real deal's sister and better himself.
It's just that 2 made him hate humanity and wants to become a god... for what? 1 ended with him shrugging and basically going along with humanity with his techanically non-biological sister, so where did the hell did that behaviour come from?
TLOU 2 even got most of the beats of Prototype 2, right down to the "revenge plot" of James killing the main character of the series.

I mostly mean with the deal with the Son(?) killing the main characters, then the nuke finishing the rest of the cast off. Been a while since I played.

Oh no, I did play the original and Im very aware of all of that. I guess if you had to make a sequel and not have Mercer as the protagonist, might as well have him as the antagonist...the problem is that the sequel never seemed to justify it properly, even if you consider the comics canon. It was just far less insulting to have him in that position than Joel and Ellie, thats all. Then again, most people consider Prototype 2 to be...alright, just alright. And Im glad it stopped at 2, I cant even imagine how much worse would it get with a 3 (tho maybe a reboot could work...)

Thing is, you arent wrong persay, it could have ended there and be pretty satisfactory...but there was space for something there, like seeing the consequences of Joel's actions catching up, see how Ellie reacts to the truth and etc. There were ways of continuing the plot PROPERLY. This just wasnt it. There are fucking fanfictions of TLOU sequels that are undoutably better and from a place of passion...those actually bother picking up and building from the original rather than destroying everything and then saying that it was the whole point when people get understandably mad.

There was RDR 2 but that's only because the game was fucking huge and needed a separate disk for the data.

Somehow I doubt TLOU 2 is even going to cover enough data to justify two disks.
Same with FF7 Remake, for largely the same reasons. Any bets on if this thing is gonna run like ass the way the ps3 version of 1 did?

I recall the gaming running just fine on my PS3 back in the day. Tho each console might run a bit differently depending on model and age.

Honestly, if they were gonna do this story of Abby wanting revenge and revenge bad... a better way would have been having them intersect at the climax and having Elly and Dina escape with a wounded Joel when he shouts the truth. That Fireflies were gonna scoop Ellie's brain out with very little chance of it working. They were gonna kill him because they couldn't trust him alive. All he'd have to do is point at Abby's rage as his own at that time. At least he saved a life, what's Abby saving? Nodding at Dina cradling her stomach after the assault.

Then should Abby be as emotionally unstable as she looks they make a run, Abby screams and starts after them. Lev being the only voice of reason for Abby would likely intervene at this juncture as Lev inexplicably did while Abby was wailing on Ellie -- I may be wrong in remembering this, I forgot a fair amount of the leak because I'd rather not waste what little of my brain's memory storage remains. The final slope towards the epilogue is Abby finding out all she fought for was a lie. The Fireflies were fucking crazy and her own family had been needlessly killing people with no progress.

At which point I'd probably have her kill herself in regret to tie up that loose end as Lev comforting her back into sanity doesn't seem particularly possible given the bitch's choice of weapon is a golf club. Plus it's too touchy feely for a "woman" who spent this long roided out in a singular quest of killing an old man and his adopted daughter. IRL professional wrestlers don't get that second chance, post-apocalyptic roid woman doesn't either.

Ellie is pushing Joel in a wheelchair, his spine shattered and now Ellie takes care of him with Dina, who likely miscarried, laying flowers on her baby's and Tommy's grave.

But I'm not a professional hack. Just a regular one.
