The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

You know what gets me about the whole "cycle of revenge" shit? It's got nothing to do with the themes of the first game. The first game was about surviving and finding all that's good in a world that's gone dark. The game was dark, but it was offset by moments of levity between Joel and Ellie and the game saw their relationship go from cynical and standoffish to something almost familial. What does revenge have to do with any of that other than to snuff out the concepts the previous game presented?

If it's to subvert or undo those themes, there are way better ways of going about that that don't involve shitting all over everything. The Ultima series is a good example of this. Ultima IV hinged on the eight virtues and your character's quest to become the embodiment of those virtues to become the Avatar. Then V comes around and showcases a darker side of it, when virtue isn't a choice but is mandated by law, and VI shows that for all your good deeds you still hurt some people in your quest to become a force of good. But you know what Ultima didn't do? It didn't destroy the meaning of the virtues. Even when the games explore how those virtues can be used against you, those same virtues are also what enable you to triumph over evil. If anything, V and VI added dimension and gray morality to a previously black-and-white system of ethics, which in turn expanded Ultima's themes.

This though? This is just taking what was there in the previous games and stomping all over it just to say, "hurr durr revenge is bad" even when revenge had jack shit to do with it. It doesn't add nuance or expand on anything, it just undoes everything the previous game built towards in an effort to be "intelligent." It's a fucking disgrace.

There is a comic called 'Y the Last Man' about an apocalypse that kills all the men and the world basically just goes to shit. Well, not just the men, but all mammals with a Y chromosome. It is most certainly not made out to be a feminist utopia story.

I looked it up and they are making a series about that graphic novel...

"Y takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has killed every male mammal save for one lone human and his capuchin monkey. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival. "

I can only see this going GREAT in "current year"....

Funny how in the past the subject of troons in videogames was successfully handled and now we're whining and bitching fo-hahaha sorry, sorry, I couldn't keep it up.

I just wanted to point your attention to this masterpiece you all should play back to back.

A tasteful and sensitive tale of a man trapped in an all women society, forced to gender-bend to survive.

I can correct the entirety of TLOU 2's plot.

The major ending hook of TLOU is Joel lies to Ellie. Now imagine the crushing despair she faces over finding out his lie and his own selfishness. So she parts from him, and is basically trying to come to terms with this. First half of the game you play as Ellie, just traveling, thinking, meeting people. Murdering zombies and insane survivors and helping people out. Then she gets deceived and helps this horrible cult commit an atrocities without her knowing. For example, these people seem nice, but a little off, and Ellie has to go and find survivors and bring them back to the cult's base. Without her knowing, the cult worships the fungus and infects anyone Ellie brings there. They worship the fungus, believing it is the Earth's protective response to humanities pillaging of it. When they are content with enough people dying and getting infected, they will infect themselves as well. They capture Ellie and try to infect her. But she's immune so they simply hold her hostage until they can all 'transcend' and 'be one with the Earth'. In Misery style, they break one of her ankles so she can't run.

Next half you play as Joel, tracking down Ellie. You get clues, follow her path and see the result of her compassion (before meeting the cult). You make the player feel guilty about what Joel did. Then you come upon the cult, but of course they fucked up and the entire place is a mass of zombies, on fire and about to burn to the ground. Joel rescues Ellie, they have a heartfelt apology (DEATH FLAG ALERT) and vow to make it out of the compound together. However, with the amount of zombies and Ellie's inability to run or walk properly, Joel knows this is utterly impossible. So he lies to her again. He forces her out of the compound while he draws the attention of the horde, apologizing to her for lying again. The last battle is Joel endlessly battling zombies with his inner monologue. Eventually he is grievously wounded, and its revealed he was carrying a vest packed with C4, showing he never had any intent of getting out alive. Flashbacks occur, and he blows him, the zombies and the compound all to shit.

Ellie is dumbstruck, unbelieving this happened. Agonized about Joel's death. She walks off into the forest. A month later, she's still wandering around aimlessly, her ankle healed. She feels incredibly guilty from running away from him, when she hears crying in the woods. She comes across a young boy and his dead parents, apparently having been killed by bandits. She feels a renewed purpose, takes the child's hand and makes the same promise to him that Joel did, foreshadowing her willingness to sacrifice her life for him.

Do you see how I made the entire story a circular narrative and Joel dies in a matter that is satisfying and not being beaten to death by a golf club? That's what we like to call 'plot development' and 'conclusions' and these things called 'character arcs'.

As it stands, TLOU 2 has none of this, at all. It is an abortion of a story, pathetic and laughable.

I agree completely. Its completely fucking idiotic, wrongheaded. It shows spite and disrespect to your audience. I also haven't quite understood this trend of 'fuck my audience lol'. Its exceedingly incompetent and is never, ever well written. Almost always done by idiots who think they're better than they are.

You think that stupid, egotistical faggot would listen to anyone but the bull that fucks his girlfriend?
Another Secret Asshole post. I need a cigarette.

The game is going to sell well. People who think otherwise are delusional. Just like people claiming the last Star Wars movie would bomb. The average person is a mindless drone who buys whatever their overlords tell them to buy.

Except Star Wars had the good grace of the original trilogy (and to a lesser extent, the prequels) going for it, and Disney did hype it up to be the grand finale of the Star Wars saga.

Even then, everything from The Last Jedi onward was a slow burn death for the franchise. Solo outright bombed so bad that even Disney couldn't deny it, while TLJ and Rise of Skywalker both under-performed massively and most of their success was on the opening week, with steep drop offs afterwards.

Star Wars has been a touchstone of American pop culture since the late 70's.

Marvel Comics has been a major part of American pop culture since at least the 50's and largely benefited from the wider capeshit movie fad of the 2010's, which made their declining comic sales a moot point before 2020.

Both have been utterly wrecked by woke culture, and now Corona-chan is taking a baseball bat to both of them in the long run.

The Last of Us doesn't have any of those things going for it.

It's a newer property with a smaller fanbase overall.

Even normies will have likely watched Star Wars or a Marvel movie at least once in their lives, and if they haven't, they at least know of it.

Hell, even 90's weeb shit like Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z likely have more normie cred than The Last of Us, even if it's mostly due to those being around longer.

The worst part was that The Last of Us could've been a decent franchise for gaming, even if it is a retread of The Walking Dead. I'll even give them credit for their originality on how the zombies came about with the cordyceps fungus.

I'm ok with brutal scenes as long as there is some artistic narrative or reasoning for it. All I see is some big macho troon beating the shit out of a little girl. There's no narrative at all to it.

Really, it's like something you'd expect from someone with a Ryona fetish and a tranny fetish.

Except it's also a lot more pretentious and boring.

I see that you are of patrician birth as well. Not only does Velvet start as a likable edgelady that goes full John Wick on her enemies, she also warms up to her teammates over the course of the game and becomes unironic mom material. As a matter of fact, the interactions the characters have are just pure gold, especially with Magilou.

Funny how good the results tend to be when you're not actively trying to Oscarbait or appease the farthuffing art film critics (if you'd pardon the triple repetition).
A lot of times Velvet comes off as that same teenage girl she used to be, but trying to act like an edgy badass(specifically in the latter half) and I loved it.

I thought Death Stranding did all that? I haven't played it yet.

If Ellie and Dina were kept alive for sequel bait to go after Abby, why the fuck would Ellie go after Abby? Wouldn't those two count their blessings that they were still alive and get the fuck as far away from her as fast as possible? Or is it that "I MUST HAVE MY REVENGE!" storyline?
Death Stranding isn’t anywhere near as bad as some people make it out to be. The first area’s a bit boring, and it takes a bit too long introducing its mechanics, but it’s fine if it grabs you at all.

Revenge stories are fine. They are easy to do, and don't actually need to be done competently. They can work for both serious and popcorn entertainment. Even the plot I wrote up earlier in this thread is a revenge plot. Ellie doesn't forgive Joel for his lie and as revenge for it, parts from him, the one thing that would hurt him most. Its not a typical 'I'm going to kill you'. But she was done wrong and punished him for it. The literal definition of revenge. It doesn't always have to be physical. And that revenge makes Ellie lose Joel, realizing she never should have left and tried to reconcile his betrayal. Instead, she wanted to hurt him, which lead to his death. Its much more complicated than 'I killed ur dad, kno i'm gunna killl UR dad'. Which is the fucking plot of this piece of trash.

Here, I'll do the right version of what cuckman wanted. Though I like my first one much more, of course.

If TLOU 2 really wanted to do 'cycle of revenge' well, here's how to do it: I wouldn't have made her a musclebound tranny. I would have made her a normal girl like Ellie. Somebody people can relate to. Not some jaked up dyke who looks like a man (They're in games, but there are very good reasons why they aren't main characters). I would also have you play as her for a couple of hours and introduce you to her friends, her companions, her acquaintances and her lover, and the camp she stays at. Without knowing who she is or what she's about to do. The killing Joel would be done in a cutscene as you lose control of the character and don't have to actually fight him. She goes to Ellie: "I could hurt you, or kill you now. But I want you to know the pain I felt for the rest of your life." And she just lets Ellie go, without realizing just how dangerous Ellie is. And seeing Joel die like that makes Ellie insane. She's lost her one rock and she's been unleashed like a fury.

And those nice people you palled around with for a few hours? You fucking butcher them. Every last one of them. It would play like Metal Gear 5. Open world, except you hunt everyone she knows down, trying to get information on where the camp is. You use torture and fear to get information out of survivors. You can lure groups of monsters into enemies and do the cruelest shit you can. You then go to the camp and burn it down. Anyone who resists, she kills. The rest flee into the woods which are accumulating with zombies thanks to all the attention or because Ellie lead them there. I wouldn't make it clear. Just that Ellie's actions are going to get a lot of innocent people killed. Some get eaten alive. Ellie does not give a singular fuck. She is like divine punishment from the heavens, slaughtering everything in her path. The final 'fight' isn't a fight, its just an execution. Just pops two bolts in her knees and lights the bitch on fire. You leave her lover alive who then threatens to kill Ellie. She just goes, "When you're ready, I'll be waiting." (Yes its corny, but having TLOU 2 being a cycle of revenge plot is idiotic). And off Ellie goes, without a care in the world. All fucked up like Colonel Kurtz in the jungle. Then I'd make TLOU 3 basically fucking Apocalypse Now with monsters.

It requires you to turn Ellie into a monster, but uh, you'll still never get the player base to sympathize with Abby. And I'm pretty sure players would get hard for a completely unchained Ellie just fucking murdering people and manipulating killbeasts to eat her enemies and enjoy every second of hunting Abby down and brutally killing her. We can't have people enjoying things, though. This version also has too much gameplay.

I looked it up and they are making a series about that graphic novel...

LOL. The entire Graphic Novel is women gratuitously murdering each other, a faction of militant women called amazons who are insane, cut off one breast and shoot nearly everyone they meet. Yurick (Or Y) is under constant threat of capture and eternal imprisonment as a sex slave. And not the fun kind, either. Like, we're going to milk you like a horse or some shit. Or being captured and becoming a live guinea pig for medical experiments.

The world is FUCKED. It is 100% post-apocalyptic. This is the opposite of that. It doesn't really explore gender. Basically the entire message of the story is that humanity is incomplete without either sex. It isn't about which sex is better, or different. Its that men and women need each other to be whole. Which is why he is chasing after one woman the entire graphic novel.

Of course they ignore all of that. The new orders of women are pretty fucking terrible, even the good ones have bad secrets. Because, you know, its the end of the fucking human race. But no, throw some progtard garbage in it where even though every single man is dead, it is still the one living man's fault.

All this stuff being made is probably more fun that the actual game is lol

Oh, that's fucking great. The sad part is they could do everything they did in the leaked stuff and still have it be a good game. They won't obviously, because of current year bullshit, but these memes. Tastey.
I see it the exact opposite: SJWs tend to bitch about realism in gameplay mechanics, because it makes it TOO HARD
Faggots that complain about "games are too hard" deserve to have their free speech revoked.
I $100% this to be the original.

Fuck you for ruining my desire to see a series about Y the last man. I really hope they go full Dutch Survivor on it and just show how women need men.

Either they follow the graphic novel and show what would realistically happen if all males disappeared, aka, utter mindless chaos (tho the point is to show that the same would happen if it was the other way around). Or completely shit on the novel and show it was a paradise (tho with "flaws" because they still need troubles to move the plot), some shit thats very tame compared to the source material.

Either way, there will be backlash as no way this setup can work nowadays, maybe 10 years ago but not now...

Now see, an unchained Ellie would be a perfect catalyst to the theme of "hate" they touted when they first teased the second game.

Ellie has shown to blow up, make rash decisions and get really angry at the drop of a hat. That's not out of character for her. She's also not even close to Joel's size, experience or as pragmatically minded. In the first game, he was capable of subduing multiple attackers using quick, decisive attacks like a punch to the throat, choking one out, or in the case of a melee weapon, a quick slash or brief batter over the head. But once the enemy was down, he left them alone completely. He didn't brutalize them, he didn't beat them to a bloody fucking pulp. The sole two times he's like this, is during an interrogation session to find where David's village is, and the other time is when The Sniper pulls a knife on him and he stabs the mook three times before dropping it completely. That's Joel down to a tee. He's pragmatic. Ellie was small, and what little she could do in close range combat was to frantically stab someone, to the point where a "stealth" kill with her alerted everyone nearby a few meters away because she was so loud and stabbing a grown adult multiple times is gonna draw attention.

Where Joel is disconnected and learns to reconnect, Ellie is passionate to a fault. Seeing her one father figure mercilessly beat to death should have been a bigger impact on her psyche. This in turn, leads her to do things that would be seen as ruthless, gray or downright villainous in its execution. Think about it-- those nail bombs Bill shows you? They're loaded explosive powder and sharp, pointy, dirty blades and scraps. That would fuck anyone up. Molotovs, bombs, arrows or just booby traps in general would be her style, since she's clearly still very small in the second game. She'd have to find ways to confront packs differently than what Joel was capable of, leading her to vent her aggression more creatively, and thus, more rewardingly for the player.

I'm getting a headache just from imagining how much better the sequel should have been god DAMMIT druckmann.

Just think, a better version of Spec: Ops the Line where your character is slowly going insane, combined with murderous traps, executions and stealth gameplay ala MGS 5 along with its massive variability. Like, you place down a remote mine, blast a guy in the leg with a rifle, his buddies come to help him and you just detonate the mine, killing everyone. Just absolutely merciless shit. She figures out how to use the fungus growing in her head to manipulate kill beasts and direct them at people or even worse, she learns how to make it infectious to other people. So she deliberately infects people, sends them off to their friends, when they turn into rampaging fungi and kill them.

Actually that would be a better fucking ending to my plot.

At the end of TLOU 2, Ellie intentionally infects Abby, who turns into a mutant beast and kills and devours her lover. After that, the now mutated Abby goes on a rampage, and that's the final boss of the game. Yeah, I like that version better. At the end of it all, Ellie realizes she's just as empty as before and accomplished nothing. This fully breaks her, especially since she has so much blood on her hands. She realizes her revenge can never wash it off and the only time she feels whole is when she's killing. The epilogue is that Ellie disappears into the forest and becomes some sort of a urban legend among survivors. If you do anyone wrong, if you betray anyone and go into the forest late at night, you'll hear the strumming of a guitar before you pay the ultimate price.

There. Revenge is utterly pointless, the cycle of it will leave you mentally broken and eventually more blood will be needed to fill that emptiness inside of you. I did those themes in a fun, interesting way. Cuckman is a fucking talent-less hack who doesn't know shit about writing or story telling.

Lol. The Last Of Us subreddit quarentined themselves and gave instructions on how to turn off messaging and DMs over the leaks and how people were saying the game was going to suck. Thin-skinned bitches.
The funniest thing has been people who were bragging about avoiding spoilers only for others to find a workaround and spoil it for them.

That subreddit is begging to get its members spoiled.
