Nah, things like duchamp's "fountain" and jackson pollock's dripping painting are explicitly a rejection of beauty as a value.

They're also a money laundering and tax evasion scheme. This is an old scheme that needs three people; the expert, the artist and the philantropist.

Artist turns everyday items into something very expensive. Expert affirms the price and essentially markets. Philantropist buys it for a quarter of a million (but not nearly that much money actually changes hands). Philantropist donates it to public buildings.

The recipients are glad that they get such an expensive work and they can verify the value with the expert, though they have little incentive to prove that their possession has low value.

The philantropist now has a huge tax deduction.

This scheme has become much easier, now that artists can produce shit quality, because their productivity went up 1000x since abstract and ugly are both seen as virtues. And since people in general have become fooled, artists these days aren't in on the scheme anymore. Instead they're literal drooling re tar ds, and the philantropist gets a new one all the time and they purchase a lot of works before the price is inflated by one of their art dealers, and they donate works after the price inflation.

It helps that making ugly abstract art is the status quo that art schools are educating people into.
Fountain and In Advance of a Broken Arm are both trolling. Duchamp submitted his "readymades" to art shows that stated they would accept "any work by an artist". So he'd buy some shit, put his name on it, and say "this is my artwork". Like a lot of Dada art, it was done to fuck with people.

Of course it's done to fuck with people.

You make it sound like it was a one-off, like it was a one time thing. But it's not like this thing ever stopped. Go to the openings of any of your local art schools. Read the booklets. Talk with the students. Compare the works of first years to those who have graduated. Mostly students are being taught that beauty should not be the goal (and in practice, you'll get criticized if your work is beautiful). There are very few exceptions to this, though I certainly haven't visited every art school internationally, I'm fairly confident through talking with other students internationally that I'm more or less characterizing things accurately.

Here's a documentary where you see the same kind of thing taking place. The only thing that's changed is that the artist is no longer in on the joke. The art dealers are, mostly, but they're good bullshit artists. That's where most of the art takes place, now.

Just watch the three minutes from the timestamp (13:16 - 16:10)

(don't get too distracted by the echoey voice of the documentary maker; it's intentionally self-mocking if you watch the other videos)

I was watching that Top 15 Worst PragerU videos in the OP and the high school principal one is mad cringe:

This dude is such a fucking boomer and this shit is exactly why anti-SJWism has started to become so embarrassing. Now that the right have gained a foothold online thanks to SJWs and other insanity from the left, they’re overreaching and trying to sneak their own sanctimonious shit which made people hate them so much in the first place back into the mix. The fact a lot of anti-SJW people are actually buying into it just to “own the libs” is pathetic and I think it will be the main reason the pendulum ends up swinging back the other way.

The thing about dress codes, banning swearing and excluding certain topics from study make me chuckle. I get that schools can have codes of conduct and teach what they want, but considering this guy throws a huge tantrum whenever a college imposes restrictions on things he happens to like, it just comes across as slightly hypocritical.

Jim Goad put it perfectly - you don’t fight the new church ladies by becoming the old church ladies. And that’s exactly what’s happening here.

Well the thread is less full of conservative handwringing than expected.

His world view is so....lazy and complacent. All bootstraps no crushing poverty, everything would be okay if we just ignored the libs and pleasent soundbites, it all sounds quite pleasent and re-assuring and then starts to crumble when you sit down and think on it. He and by proxy the site really does come across someone whose never really been tested, personally experianced the flaws and ugly side of his civilization or had to consider "Am I in the wrong?". He only see's a pleasent idealized state which exists and is under siege by those who wish for something differant because they never learnt the wisdom he learnt.

Honestly that's just Human existance. In any given part of the world you get relatively brief periods where everything seems fine, but if it's not nature throwing a curveball its Humans thirsting after one form of retardation or another.

It's almost like he's a literal Baby Boomer

Dennis Prager, perhaps more than anybody else I can think of, perfectly encapsulates the boomer stereotype.

Everything from his drab, doughy appearance, to his patronizing, exculpatory tone, to his bizarre prioritization of wedge issues over legitimate ones (worrying more about the "war on Christmas" than climate change, for instance), to his unhelpful, doctrinaire approach to political advocacy, all the way down to his irritating insistence on pointless standards of etiquette, all invite the phrase: "OK Boomer".

So did anyone actually see the new Carolla Prager thing? Or was it so boring no one bothered?

more like prager jew

disappointed to see carolla age into a boring facebook conservaboomer
truth but everyone gets old and its surely better than whatever the fuck happened to Jimmy Kimmel

Like yours invite tl:dr?

I mean Im 100% behind the get rid of identity politics bit but when he starts talking about Dress Codes and language thats where it starts to go downhill. With dress codes I do believe their should be the basic standard of dont dress like a whore or a clown but nothing overly strict. As for language policing sure I guess their could be consequences if you say something like nigger cunt or fuck but not anything major and it should be enforced loosely (basically oif a teacher didn't hear it it didn't happen).

This is the rare type of cringe that one would call:

CRINGE AND REDPILLED

I really don't get the neocon's fetish for the pledge of allegiance either. It's a creepy oath to the almighty state, written by a socialist in the vein of other socialist oaths to all-powerful governments, and we make children mindlessly recite it without them even really knowing what it means. In any other case, they'd be all against that shit.

The same reason why they defend every cop: a knee-jerk reaction against the left's PoV.

I really don't know if this guy is worth the effort of a thread, tho'. I doubt anyone watches his shitty five minute long ads. I have tried before, but they are the worst kind of bad: the boring kind.

Between the bible belt, Neocons, corporate shills and populism, American Conservatism has been dead in the water for decades.

I dont dislike Prageru as much as some (hell their good meme material) but theyre one of the most dull things in existents. Dennis Prager has a near inhuman lack of charisma or presentation skill.
PragerU is basically a confirmation of right wing rhetoric mixed with pro Iseral beliefs.

Dull as dishwater.
