That's really what it comes down to. There are those that genuinely believe in patriarchy as a way of life (e.g., certain Christian fundamentalist sects), and there are those that spout patriarchal talking points because they genuinely hate women. I get the feeling that Nick doesn't really speak about his feelings on gender from a position of religious conviction. If you look into genuine patriarchal movements such as Quiverfull, you'll find that a lot of women drag their husbands into it because they believe it is the most in line with Biblical teaching. In other words, they believe that they are pleasing God by living according to prescribed gender roles. America didn't want "To crush Germany" (Well except for Henry Morgenthau) we just wanted Germany to stop torpedoing our boats that were shipping weapons and war resources to their enemies for a profit. They didn't do that, so we escalated.
