Initially my first exposure was the furries forcing their digusting fetish and shit onto others over the internet trying to find children who bite the bait. Fursecution comes and goes in cycles from what I've seen; there was a similar situation way back in the 2000s with the Burned Furs shenanigans, where the furry fandom had gotten so big and nebulous that it kicked off some major scandal over stripping at 'cons or whatever, and the Burned Furs wanted the fandom to be less gay (which wasn't going to fucking happen). This ramped up activity exponentially which led to a huge blowout and furry drama spilled out all over the internet. The now-famous Yiff In Hell shenanigans began as 4chan and other sites jumped into the fray and began creating anti-furry propaganda and trolling campaigns, and other shit happened like furries getitng kicked of SheezyArt (which is now a dead website, wonder why) and FA being opened up by 'Neer in '05.

Things died down eventually on that front and the furry fandom began recuperating after the fact; the fandom had managed to keep a foothold on DeviantArt so as you can imagine a lot of new, younger furries got involved, which led to a sort of art renaissance that I like to call the sparkledog era; there was a much stronger focus on feral art than previous iterations of the fandom did.

These users would be on FA as well but certain decisions by FA staff would periodically see swaths of furries leaving FA on short-lived exodus to other sites; A lot of pedophiles went to InkBunny when FA staff banned cub porn, of course. When the Yiffyleaks happened, a bunch of furries ditched FA thanks to years of lies and bullshit from 'Neer; they did inevitably go back, of course, because furries have piss-poor long-term memory I guess. I remember SoFurry/YiffStar/Whatever the fuck it was called at the time being down during this and since Weasyl wasn't well-known at the time these furries inevitably went to other sites.

Livejournal was an old favorite of the furry fandom, but in recent years the site was acquired by Russians which led to a lot of gay furries (aka the vast majority of the fandom) leaving the site en masse out of protest due to Russia's censorship. Some went back to DeviantArt but couldn't post porn there, so a lot of them went to Tumblr and Twitter and even Facebook instead. This, coupled in particular with Tumblr and Twitter's "you do you" and "live and let live" mentality regarding sexual freedom and self expression, resulted in a lot of furries who stopped giving a shit about secrecy and began posting about themselves in earnest. It also doesn't help that at this time, many of Tumblr and Twitter's users in particular were talking about how open and accepting the furry fandom is and how good they are to artists who want to make a living, which further served to normalize furries as a beneficial lifestyle rather than a weird, discreet fetish/hobby.

With the way things are progressing now I wouldn't be surprised if the furry fandom has another colossal blowout in the near future. The zoosadism leaks definitely should've kicked it off, but it seems to be more of a slow rise to a sudden drop this time around rather than a sudden and explosive event. But maybe that's just personal optimism.
