The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Apparently the waterline the game needs to reach is 5 million copies within the first 30 days.

It makes me wonder, Druckman dropped a bunch of HBO stuff into TLOU2 like he's getting ready to be big time hollywood man.

Remember how Game of Thrones bombed so hard on it's last season because the creators were getting ready to work with Disney but then had the rug pulled out form under them? I think that's going to happen here too.

If that's what they have to reach to to make the money people happy... then that is a big oof as people say. Just googled and the first one made a little more than a million on the first week. Sure, now Last of Us is a brand name, still...

And I don't think the leaks will affect the sales all that much if we are being reasonable, I never fully bought the whole "go woke get broke", because, usually, people say that to content that was always on track to fail. Sure, Charlie's Angels went woke, but regardless it was sure to get broke either way.

Not so much with TLOU 2. The game still had a big profile, and while you have a lot of groans and moans about Ma'am being the new hero of the story.... I dunno, the feeling I get is that people are still on board.

And so am I if I'm being honest... kinda. I'm pretty nonchalant about Naughty Dog games. You can't deny that they look good, but the gameplay loop always hinges on the side of "dull", and the stories are pretty ok Hollywood flicks, it does a better job than most other games, but that ain't saying all that much either. I still have a copy of Uncharted 4 that I can't be bothered to play.

But with the shit show that are the leaks, i kinda want to see for myself how crazy this can get... I will probably be disappointed... but thing is, I couldn't give two shits about Last of till last week, and now I want to play the game, and I'm not being ironic here.

Still, no fucking way I'll pay full price for this game, it's a sony exclusive, wait 6 months and it will be half price at least.

I feel like people probably should have been prepared for some kind of twists and turns with the protagonists of this kind of game. Not one as extreme as Abby, sure, but Joel dying was always on the table and I couldn't rightfully complain about the act of deliberately misleading an audience only to pull the rug under them for effect/meta narrative/whatever in and of itself while enjoying the twists of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 5 for example. It's just the execution on this one seems to please no one.
People were prepared for twists and turns, but it's not the twist and turns that angered people but how stupid the writing and reasoning behind it is.

It's like GTA V killing Johnny Klebitz. Johnny was presented as a very capable guy in GTA IV, he took on so much shit without hesitation and most of the time you understand his struggles but overall you have a very good grasp on his attitude and capabilities. What happened in GTA V?, they showed him as a nu male who asks very nicely to Trevor to please stop having sex with his girlfriend and then getting killed with a bottle, this is the very same Johnny that has survived several attempts on his life with just a scratch, this is the same Johnny that burned a whole burning because some people angered him, this is the same Johnny that would punch someone in the nose just for talking shit about anything he personally cared for, so yeah, it stinks of really bad writing or simply not caring.

Exceptional circumstances require exceptional reasons. I haven't played TLoU but I know about its story, if all those leaks prove correct, it's obvious this is just a cashgrab and a bad attempt at it too. Like many have mentioned, the story and reasoning for all the events doesn't make the slight of sense at all and I don't really see how they can write it off at all.

Changing characters mid game isn't new but it's always tricky, killing the previous main characters from the previous games isn't new but it is REALLY tricky, doing all of that in the same game is an interesting idea but it would need a very good execution story wise, which they obviously didn't aimed for here.

The leaks on themselves are just free marketing, it's the story the one causing people to jump off the Sales bandwagon. As for the go woke go broke, well, I am not saying that Ghostbuster 2016, Battlefield V or many other examples prove you wrong but they kind of do, those I mentioned were almost sure to be a success, all they needed was a bit of effort put into them but instead the executives rather put a woke cunt to push the agenda and well, you know how all of that ended.

I'd like to remind everyone, the far superior revenge game Tales of Berseria is on sale at Steam for $12.49

Less than $60, you get some good characters, some good RPG mechanics and it isn't written by some faggot who is trying to get into Hollywood.

JRPGs in general have better stories than most everything coming out of the West and Hollywood. You could roll a die and buy a random JRPG from Steam's Golden Week Sale and still have a better chance of landing on a better told story than anything released by first party studios in the last half-decade.

Oh, and Trails is GOAT.

I wonder what the pitch for this fucking shit was like. "You know that character everyone loves? Well we start out by having them fucking murdered by a tranny, and then you get to spend the rest of the game sucking the tranny's dick. People will love it!"

Sony moved its headquarters to the California Bay area. They love shit that repulses the rest of the country there.

Yeah they definitely fucked it up. I'm just hesitant to call it a scam. A shitty twist is just a shitty twist, and although we were lucky enough to have this one leaked I think people should just take it as a lesson to not buy games like this day 1 especially if you're not prepared for the possibility that you will be terribly disappointed by a plot playing out in a way you didn't want.

$10 says joel dies
10$ x 4 years = ???

this comment nailed it.

also neil virgin vs Chad Game director

god bless for that brave hero who leaked tlou2. pure garbage game development over the course of 6 years :story:

saved 60$ straight up for buying better games

but hey ... at least its one of those games that will be released unlike other game so called developer *cough cough yanderecuck*

I don't think it's actually a troon. I think the narrative is Abby was so mad at Joel for killing daddy she dedicated her life to revenge and trained Saitama style until she had Doomguy tier muscles which is still fucking exceptional and not even remotely realistic.

There's a flashback where Abomination Abby is depicted as a girl, before turning into this genderless freak.
Her anatomy is just utterly unrealistic. Women don't get that shoulder to hip ratio without abusing steroids.

Looks like Sargon finally got his GamerGate 2.0

How ironic that Sony just ruined their whole career thanks to said leak online. What a shame for Sony and Naughty Dog.
I don't see Sony getting hurt long term from this, Naughty Dog definitely. But Sony as a whole should be fine. They've already moved Ghosts to patch up the void left by TLOU2 and PS5 will be the big november release instead of software because a new console overshadows everything.

We will see about that once Lawsuit papers come out of it

Maybe... The Ghostbusters movie I have my doubts it would be hit even if they did something different or even went with the original cast, I get the feeling it would be yet just another soft reboot of a franchise that has already ran it's course. Probably wouldn't be much of a bomb like the female ghostbusters were, but I would say maybe on the same level as the robocop reboot.

Battlefield V is a better case for the "go woke get broke" deal, althought the Battlefield name had some bad rep with some of their recent games, and also the whole EA deal, the franchise was coming out of a big hit with the WW1 game, and yeah, that reveal trailer had a big impact on how people viewed the game. But I would argue that battlefield already had some stinkers that helped people to jump out of the bandwagon, and for sales alone Battlefield V didn't do "terrible"... but it did sell less than 4 times the previous game.

But I'll be upfront, this ain't a hill I'm up to die on. I think Naughty Dog and Last of Us still have a "clean" brand name to avoid any "get woke go broke", sales wise but if they do, and the game bombs, I'm gonna have a good belly laugh like everybody else. I do not mind being proven wrong at this at all.
