It's not the first time Liam tried to aim for Zack's neck either. I think if someone goes back pages in either this or the other thread, I mentioned it as well that Liam was aiming for Zack for awhiiiiiile now. Seems like he wants to take Zack's place as CG's "prominent writer"..
I don't think a
realpolitik analysis is really necessary to understand Liam's sentiments. If Liam even hosts Ben Henderson on his livestream (or Preston hires an editor that makes anti-CG tweets), he's harangued as a traitor for days. Meyer meanwhile takes Comicsgate money and puts it in the pocket of
someone who literally produces cartoons of Frog as a obese manchild "45 year old man who hatefucks a pillow with Brie Larson's head on it" and doesn't hear a peep. Liam is expected to promote whatever Zack is making because that's "a victory for Comicsgate"; the odds that Zack will reciprocate this for
Xenotype, or any creator that actually advocates for Comicsgate as it's commonly understood to be, is virtually zero.
Now, if you take Ya Boi's argument at face value, he'll say that his
personal interpretation of what "comicsgate" is is purely a business model that involves building a platform and using it to crowdfund and absolutely does not involve anything approaching a CG community or network. That the application of the direct-to-customer business model is in of itself demonstrative proof of his theses condemning the mainstream's practices. But this is a bit of deliberate disingenuousness on Zack's part.
He would have you believe that, when faced with the choice of spending 25 USD and either buying
two 48-page physical issues of
Cinema Purgatorio by Avatar Press
(a periodical anthology of creator-owned short stories like Shonen Jump) by the writing collective of Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Max Brooks, Kieron Gillen and Christos Gage
and have five dollars left over
or buying a 20 page meme comic starring a Riri Williams-knockoff by fucking Zack, that he is selling his comics based purely on the merit of his craft and his stagnant youtube channel consisting of disjointed, increasingly repetitive rants at a Bleeding Cool screencap or a mainstream that hasn't even released a comic in nearly two months. He's happy to reap the benefits of the Comicsgate brand/community but refuses to acknowledge the existence of the people who make it possible for him.
It's a generous indulgence afforded to him by Frog, but who knows how long it's going to hold up or to what degree Frog and his normally Darwinist approach to CG creators will continue to carry water for Zack. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Liam poses any real threat to Ya Boi Zack whatsoever, but in this instance he is the canary in the coal mine.
