The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

„I guess...*coof coof* they really were the last of us, too“ *wheeze*
I wouldn't mind that silver fox caving my head in with a golf club but I'm an actual degenerate fuck.

I'm still going to buy this and play it because I want to see the autism for myself. I'm less upset by the leaks, which have pretty much shown me that I'm going to hate playing this, than I am at the utter retardation of Cuckman and Sony blasting bad faith DMCA's across the entire internets and trying to silence the discussion. I'd feel more receptive to the idea of them being like 'hey I know the leaks make this look bad but give it a chance anyway' message if they weren't sperging out like fucking OPL and demanding that everyone gets that off the internet now now now.

Could this still work as a story? Probably not but I'd be a lot more willing to believe they had faith in it doing so if they wouldn't have kept the PGA tranny out of all media for the game.

I'll play it and review it but that's because I was going to do that already, I now can shit all over ND and Sony for being tryly exceptional even before the damn game launches though. Thanks for giving me like three paragraphs of material to write before I even install the game you fucking idiots.

Because this is the world that Druckman believes the world needs to see exists. They want others to revel in their own dystopian misery on a level that only sociopaths and depressed anarchists would be able to fathom. He does all this to prove his world view is Right and everyone else has it Wrong. He believes he is showing that what the gaming scene needs is more people like him to empower those voices that are never heard, that are repressed, that the downtrodden need to be represented. He believes that he can make that happen by putting that message into a medium that will be globally consumed in dozens of languages. He knows his audience has absolutely no choice if they want to continue the story to walk through his vision of life, his concepts of morality, and his world views and will proudly tell you with a straight face "This is how you should think as this is what you REALLY want".

Druckman is Abby, this game is the golf club message of Social justice, we the consumers are Joel being beaten to death with Druckman's message. The only problem is now we know what to expect so unlike Joel we are not bound on the floor being held hostage, we pull a Star Trek "Beam me Up Scotty" and zap the fuck out of that scenario and go do anything else we want on this blue marble we call an earth than have to be subjected to a message by Druckman.

Druckman's message is now destroyed, exposed, and the world is laughing at him not with him. This is why this leak is so goddamn delicious. People now see the emperor for not wearing any clothes.

Great fucking post. It brings to mind the argument of why some enjoy nihilistic things. See my Fucked Up Books thread for example. And there is a shit load of reasons: bravery, reaffirming the "nothing", curiosity, etc. Making a game out of suffering is an interesting premise. And not in the sense of it being too difficult because that's something different that hits upon being challenged more than anything.

But I think there is such a thing as mindful nihilism and not. Essentially; have a point. Have something unique to say. I.E. Ingmar Bergman versus Rian Johnson. On that note: a Star Wars film shot by Bergman would have been interesting.

Or disappointing. The Alien franchise film by Jeunet was not exactly satisfying.

With all the sucky stories with the whole nihilism, interjecting with identity politics, I quite have enough. This stuff makes me compelled to make some more upbeat stories or really anyone, but without the ridiculous politics. I might as well go on adventures across the globe Indiana Jones-style. Something that uplifts the soul or at least remotely fun.
I remember when people used to whine about how "not every story has a happy ending, that's unrealistic."
Years later almost every work i come across has to have a bittersweet ending, nowadays i'm just expecting for shit to go sour at the end of almost every piece of fiction since then

I wonder what Druckmann's fantasies were like. He should have seen horrible twists out there, but maybe the red wedding was the thing. Maybe he saw a world where people are posting reactions to joel, holding their hands up in shock and tweeting over and over about this 'crazy' twist that you totally have to buy in order to be part of the normie clique. He didn't see GOT end yet, so it was easy to think all horrible twists are going to be well received! Of course, he's just doing what everyone else is and brutalizing characters that were beloved for the shock value. Maybe in the next one Ellie gets Mr. Hands'd and we have to spend the rest of the game as a PTSD traumatized horse trying to peacefully grace and escape his inner demons. Then the furries can get on board, finishing the gay/trans/fur agenda pyramid for the trilogy. It'll make billions, as long as each troon and furfag buy 14 copies each.

Alien 3 is underrated. I also think killing a beloved character completely meaninglessly is entirely in line with the franchise, not a repudiation of anything, unless Aliens was the first you ever saw of it.

I love Alien 3 and I think that even if you disagree with killing off Ripley, that she died a meaningful and heroic death. Completely unlike Luke in Last Jedi or Joel in this game.

Didn’t they kill like EVERY meaningful character though? And the majority of them in the first 2 mins?

Hicks I could MAYBE understand but Newt's death served no purpose other than the fact that the kid didn't want to come back. Newt was the reason why Ripley went back and fought the Alien Queen, and a reason for her to move on with trauma after losing all her loved ones and connections following the events of the first film. Killing Newt off added nothing and made it hard for me to give a shit without an emotional core for Ripley's character.

Ripley at least died in a badass way though. No qualms about that.

Gotta admit, the Senator Abbstrong maymes im seeing flying around are really quite effective in making me giggle

"TRANNOMACHINES SON!!!"
I actually think making a shitty 20 dollar golf game like this would've been better. This is surprisingly wholesome and I like it... which is why it's gonna get DMCA'd.

And for Alien 3, the big issue is the deaths happened too early IMO; it's a quick gutpunch that just puts you in a bad mood for the rest of the movie. Once you get over it (and watch the Assembly cut), it's a solid movie. I still understand why you might prefer watching Resurrection though.

Hicks and Newt died in the first 2 minutes, off camera. Sure. Shitty thing but you could argue that it wasn't their story, it was Ripley's. If they were a thing since the first movie then okay.

I think people who enjoy Alien Resurrection unironically are autistic.

Resurrection had some neat ideas buried in there. I like the idea of weird lovecraftian alien-human hybrids and I think the Newborn had a really neat design.

...but then you watch the goddamn basketball scene and I lose my shit because of how ridiculous it all is.

I'll give it that for sure. Some great visuals and gore too. But I lay the blame on Joss Whedon and execs demanding that Ripley come back. Apparently, Whedon originally wanted Newt to come back as a clone which makes even less sense.
