If you want to convey a message through a game, don't forget to make it fun before anything else.

Plus, the fact that everyone is pushing wokeness when they are in hot water or when they need to push a turd onto the public has made me extremely suspicious when they show even the mere inkling of wokeness in the first trailer.

I wonder why western media got obsessed with ultra realistic, nihilistic, apocaliptic narratives. I mean, the original game was a good example of this, but there seems to be a tendecy to try and be as cruel, pessimistic and colorless as possible. Hope for the future and the idea that humans beings can overcome fear, anger and revenge seems to be disapearing from our collective consciousness. I feel like Mike from rlm when he talks about modern star trek.

I like to keep up with stuff from around the world and seeing what's being made is telling as to what a culture's aspirations are. Ever noticed how often japan spits out stories where some middle class guy is spending every hour working at a desk job, only to die, abandoning every family and friend, living in a rural, low-tech pseudo-fantasy world? In china, they love the idea of someone low and beaten on the social scale being gifted some method to streak to the top of the world and lord their power over everyone below.
The west likes things with mass slaughter (but they aren't people so it's totally cool to show heinous violence) and the end of the world as we know it. I think they tend to fetishize the collapse, not understanding how much strength it takes to survive. We haven't had a great sifting event in decades, one where people actually feel the gift of life after escaping death. We don't appreciate what we have. I'm not sure what else though, I think we're much more splintered than easter cultures.

These killable dog characters make me wonder: Did they have to watch "reference" videos of dogs being killed? That would be so fucked up if someone had to actually watch videos of real dogs being tortured and killed.

I see some people saying on reddit that no one should be upset about being able to kill dogs in the game, because other games have done this before too. I disagree with that, because I'm betting that the dogs dying in this game will be far worse than what any other game has done when it comes to killing animals.

Given what we know about this game so far, Druckmann has gone out of his way to make it as violent as possible. With that in mind, Ellie won't just shoot the dogs and then they'll quickly die. No, Druckmann probably made it to where we will have to beat the shit out of the dog, and we'll hear every pained whimper, cry, and yelp. We'll see every pained expression and get to watch the poor dog writhe in agony as it slowly succumbs to its injuries. At that point, the owner will come out, cry it's name and demonize Ellie.



I think you are spot on, which is why I am certain that these dog's deaths will be extremely graphic and absolutely brutal.

Alright, to further expand on this, I'm playing Death Stranding right now and was just doing some deliveries to boost my rating, go through a BT filled area. NBD. Pull out some BT killer grenades and wipe em out. Kill maybe 40 total. The last one I kill, get near to it as it is dieing, and hear a baby crying before it disappears and the crying stops. Never got close before and it genuinely upset me.

So happen to own God of War now, but there's something that's quite contrasting about it. Even though the game is toned down for GOW standards, it feels a lot more mature and rich. It has a meaningful tone to it, a god whose vengeance has simmered, but the ashes of his guilt lingers. He faces the vulnerability of taking care of a child and the loss of a mate, once again. He finds himself in a world he doesn't understand.

Yet, Kratos takes it upon himself to fight through it, teach his son to be strong, and forgive himself. What we got was a kick-ass gameplay and wonderful storytelling! Of course, this look years in the making, effort and heart. The developers themselves clearly had a lot of fun with it too when you look into it, not taking themselves too seriously either.

Contrast that with TLOU 2, a meaningless tale of revenge, shocking character deaths for cheap attention, and pointless political overtones. Assuming there is gameplay, it looks more like a walking simulator if anything. There is no defined theme, except to shock you out for money. How stupid!
