It's legally required for the 1099-MISC forms which he has to file with the IRS. The information is sent to the 3rd party and he has to file that with the IRS. It's covered by 12 U.S. Code § 3403. I'm not sure if his disbursement processor files this for him or if he does it himself, but if it would be horrifically illegal for him to leak that and it opens himself up to civil liability as well. I would love if he leaked my SSN because then I could take his money and live like a king in a real mansion in Poland.

It's money. Money invokes real-world complications. There are legal requirements. The IRS has its demands. 1099-MISC is one of them. If you're not a creator you don't have to worry about it. When money gets involved it's not internet fwends anymore. It's the real world.
