Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

As someone who's only gotten into EU collecting in the last three years or so, I've noticed that the Dark Horse comics are the biggest bitch to collect for. Some of the later stuff in the 2000's isn't too cumbersome to find for a good price, but then you have shit like The Fall Of The Sith Empire and the Thrawn Trilogy comic adaptation that run upwards of $80 per volume. Collecting the books is practically a cakewalk compared to gathering the comics.

I'm just happy I got a few of the old Dark Horse Omnibuses before the prices for those shot through the roof.

Solid fucking collection right there (I might post pics of mine once a few new arrivals come in through the mail), especially the Anniversary Editions. Bizarrely enough, the hardcover version of the Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight novella has gotten crazy expensive lately. Like, upwards of $150.

People talk about all of the EU stories that Marvel's reprinting, shrieking in a crooner's voice about how "yOuR sToRiEs aRe BeInG rEpRiNtEd, nO oNe'S tAkInG tHeM fRoM YoU", but they aren't talking about the stories they aren't reprinting. Part of the reason why the Tales of the Jedi Omnibuses and even the TPB's cost a kidney these days is because Marvel hasn't reprinted them, even digitally.

Seriously, Marvel: consider ceasing your fellating of Doctor Aphra for five fucking minutes and work on your distribution, for fuck's sake.
Aside from the comics I'd reaaly wish we'd get reprints of the old sourcebooks. yeah you can find them in pdf format oif you know where to look but it just isnt the same as holding a physical copy in your hands

Are you referring to the Wizards D20 game books or the essential guides to the galaxy, droids, characters, etc?

Seriously we have a few shops in this town. If anybody wants some books, give me a list and your price range and I'll look around. There's not a lot I have priority over.

The anniversary collection really does make me want to get more legacy to read it sometimes but there seems to be soooo much of it I really wish I could find some omnibuses.

Here's some pics from a shop back in 2017. Now i wish I had picked all these up just for later.

Borba Fett in Mando season two?

I knew they were going to shit up that show...
Ke nu'jurkadir sha mando'ade, arueti.

...I didn't expect them to go that far and drag him back out of the mandated coffin they shoved him in.
They didn't shove him into a coffin, they merely declined to do anything with him, which refusal is just bizarre, considering that they were simultaneously tard-cumming every other prominent OT character to death at the same time. 🤔

Desperate.
Not really. Favreau and co. were already hinting that the character was still kicking around the GFFA as early as episode five of the first series.

Fun fact: I never thought about purchasing any of those volumes before the Dark Times, because they were all readily available from my local interlibrary loan system...😐

lol no they pretty decisively had him die in the Sarlacc pit since they bragged quite hard about ax'ing all the stuff from the EU. No EU, no living Borba Fett until now in Disney's fanfiction.

And no, including him is desperate. This is Disney wanting to shove all their properties to bilk the one product that wasn't deemed shit. Why care about the not!Lone Wolf when you can shove the guy who this was supposed to be about and Filoni's OC too?

They're going to ruin him I bet; have him get merk'ed just to piss off fans like you.

Oh I have all the essential guides except for species and weapons and tech. I’m talking about the rpg supplements released by West End and Wizards. Oh and Illustrated Star Wars Universe (I actually think I rented it from the local library when I was younger)

A week ago, Grace Randolph heard rumors that Apple might be buying Disney.

Maybe if Disney continues to bleed funds and is forced to sell chunks off its feasible, but I don't really see Apple willing to spend countless billions of dollars on a company that's operations cost exceed their income at this point in time due to the sweet and sour sicken

I have few of the Wizards books. I found the rest on the trove.net.

Speaking of Wizards, did anyone get into the Star Wars miniature game by the same company?

Not if they didn't explicitly say that he was dead, Adam'ika. 😉

Like I said before, it was hinted at months ago that Boba Fett was still an active bounty hunter in The Mandalorian's timeline, so I'm willing to give Favreau and co. the benefit of the doubt on this (getting Temuira Morrison back to play the character, bringing with him as he does all of those implicit links to the PT, also makes me hopeful).

And for that, I can only congratulate them.

Possibly. In the meantime I'm going to enjoy the wailing and gnashing of teeth from fans like you. 😏

Its spelled "aruetti", you pleb.

Also I find it amusing that they initially praised Disney for finally killing off the "unimportant" Boba as per "muh true OT canon" only to bring him back. Someone I know from an old SW forum that initially slobbed Disney's knob over killing off Boba is now pretending he and his lot never celebrated Boba's execution. Same with /co/fag communities. Hypocrisy is all around.
I'm glad Boba is back as it means Chuck Wendig's books matter less now.

Not only that, a lot of Disney content claiming Boba and Jango were never true mandos has also been undone according to wookieepedo finding info from Disney about Jango and Boba explicitly calling them Mandos of Concord Dawn descent (sometime before or after @BipolarPon mentioned their lackluster state on Monday, fittingly enough). As expected of Wookieepedo, this info is from 2016 and they only got around to adding that shit now after years of "they're not true Mandos!". Just goes to show what a lackluster shit hole that place always was. But at least the naysayers just got btfo twice in one week, and Disney doing this just messes up their nu-canon even more, including Wendig's crap. They had a new slate and easier way of keeping things in order yet they still found a way to fuck up harder than 40 years of material in ways I didn't think possible. Disney will have to push the reset button at this rate, which I doubt will fix anything or may even make things worse, but if their shitty nu-trilogy gets thrown into apocrypha and not considered a part of the OT then great, and it'll be fun to see the spergout from wookieepedos, JJ and Rian fanboys, and Reylos. It'll make the reaction to the reset from 2014 look like a drop in the ocean. The only thing that might prevent this is if rumors of the upcoming Rebels sequel starring Ahsoka are true which is rumored to include content from Wendig's shit, Snoke and other Disney crap. Hopefully that shit stays a rumor.

I can't wait for the "canon" tab to be changed, to something like legends or non-canon. I don't think the owners of the site will be happy about that.

Christ, when even the old EU is less difficult to follow after thirty plus years than your new cannon is after five, you might just want to give the fuck up. I can't wait to see the people decrying the old timeline as fucked beyond repair try to defend this.

But George Lucas didn't consider the Old Eu canon either, so it is imperative we accept the stuff made after his retirement true canon to his films. If not we aren't true fans.

I can't wait to see how the show ruins Boba Fett like the other legacy characters. Ten bucks says he's going to get curbstomped by the thick chick with the bulging biceps and questionable acting skills, just like Mando himself did early on.

Regarding how his return is going to royally screw over Wendig's books, could someone remind me as to how? I trust you'll forgive me if I don't recall, what with my exhaustive attempts over the past few years to scrub his cancerous boil of a trilogy from my memory. One wibbling wobbling TIE fighter was one too many for my fragile brain.

Speaking with full bias, the sourcebook I want to get my hands on is the New Jedi Order . As well as that special NJO issue of Star Wars Gamer.

I mean, the lone positive is that the TPB's for Dark Times are reasonably priced. It's not like Tales of the Fucking Jedi where both the trades AND the Omnibus cost a small Asian child to procure.

Not only was the EU more comprehensive six years into its lifespan (if we consider 1991 the starting point, which I believe we should, considering that was the point where the novels and the comics first started to enjoy cross-media continuity and communication between both the comics and novel divisions), it also covered more interesting ground. For all the hand-wringing that people like EckhartsLadder and the rest of the Canon Cucks like to defend the new continuity with the blanket defense of "YOU JUST GOTTA GIVE THE NEW CANON TIME TO MATCH THE EU, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE KOTOR AND LEGACY RIGHT AWAY", they conveniently forget that the first foray into the origins of the Jedi and Sith was in Tales of the Jedi...in 1993.

That's right, concepts like Korriban, the Beast Riders Of Onderon, Exar Kun and Naga Sadow--that future settings like KOTOR were essentially built around--were established two fucking years into the EU's lifespan.

Meanwhile, we had to wait six entire years for the Nu-Canon to address the Jedi before the Prequels, and it's during a time with no war and no Sith. Because of course.

But George Lucas didn't consider the Old Eu canon either, so it is imperative we accept the stuff made after his retirement true canon to his films. If not we aren't true fans.
All jokes aside, I see the bolded bandied around a lot online as a means of denouncing the EU, to which I say this: I respect and admire George Lucas tremendously...he's one of my heroes (one of the last living ones, anyway), and is the reason why I'll probably write my own stories someday. That being said, even in my relatively-short time reading it, I would happily state that most of what I enjoy in the Expanded Universe is better and more creative than all six of his films combined. I'm a massive fan of George's work, but I'm not afraid to take the work of other creators over his word on the simple basis that their work grew, evolved and in many cases outshined all of his.

I would easily say the same thing about Gene Roddenberry and the Star Trek franchise, particularly when it comes to his grievances with films he openly spoke out against, such as Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country.

I wanted to argue against this, but I really can't. The Star Wars films Lucas produced were amazing, but they weren't the greatest stories ever told. What really made them unique was the world he built and set them in, a world of limitless possibilities. A world he did very little to explore himself.

Someone's delusional, because you're acting like they won't fuck this up. Disney is taking a more active interest in their one good show; the Rat has a record of ruining shows and movies when they do this. Ergo, odds approach one that they will ruin the show and all they put in it. Including your pet character.

You also assume Favreau won't do a Fiege and fuck up if his corporate overlord tells him to. We thought the same for Fiege for years before Stage 4 came into being. And last but not least you still keep projecting that people who think Borba Fett's overrated is mad. He's like cardamom; you don't use him too much.

Have fun when Season two has him get merk'ed by the woman or something. Hell, since Filoni's on this too, it'll probably be Asoka who kicks his ass.

And why do you always assume that people are mad when they say they think he's overrated?

I thought their first encounter ended in a literal draw...🤔

One of Cuckwig's books apparently features some rando buying a set of Mandalorian armor from Jawas claiming to have fished it out of the Pit of Carkoon.

Hmm, looks like TOTJ One and Two are still listed in my library's regional catalog. I may have to break out the ol' library card and see if I can borrow them...

I don't know if I would completely agree; Luke Skywalker's story in the OT is a tremendously powerful piece of modern mythology, for example (and everything that's come after has necessarily been derivative of it, from a creativity standpoint), but there is certainly some very excellent storytelling in the EU. I'm about halfway through the Republic Commando series now and it's actually kind of shocking to be reminded of just how well-written these books are.

Chill, dude. I'm not saying they won't fuck it up, but until they demonstrably do so I'm not going to pre-emptively vent my righteous rage. 👍

It takes a special kind of turbo-autism to deliberately and with malice aforethought refer to "Borba" Fett every time the character comes up in conversation, and then turn around and claim "I totally ain't mad, bro!"

You're definitely a lady that doth protest too much, ner nuhunla aruet'ika. 😏
