I was out of state for work and came back this week. I had heard rumors that the genocidal tyrant Bryan Kemp was allowing businesses to open in late April, but I just couldn't believe it.
When I crossed the border from South Carolina I stopped to use the bathroom at a rest stop outside of Savannah. It was quiet... empty...
A little while later I pulled off I-95 into my small town. Cars were left abandoned on the side of the road, a tumble weed blew through the center of town. The local Kroger parking lot was a ghost town, and a rattlesnake slithered across my feet as I pumped the gas.
I finally made it home, expecting my family to come out and greet me, but they didn't. As I went inside I was met with the heart-wrenching sight: my family was dead. They had been asymptomatic carriers who dropped dead suddenly when the virus mutated. Also they turned black.
I ran out of the house crying, sobbing, shaken. I tried calling 9-1-1 but the line was dead. I needed to get help.
Running on foot I made it to the center of town, but was met by an even more horrifying sight: piles of bodies littered across the square. COVID-19 had come swiftly and seemingly left no one alive. Many had even died in agonizing ways, such as cytokine storm, drowning in lung fluids, suffocation, spontaneous combustion, turing black then being shot by racists, giant brain tumors, testicles falling off - everything but the kitchen sink.
I fell to my knees in unspeakable grief and anger. "How could this happen!‽" I shouted.
"It was the reopening" a voice called from behind.
I turned my head to see a guy I went to high school with. I hadn't seen his face in years and his Facebook used an anime pfp, but I could recognize his signature acne pattern and the shirt he never changed.
"The people went outside when the Reopening happened. They all caught the Coof and then perished horrifically."
"But... But how did you survive!" I asked.
"I never left my basement but once a week to buy more tendies and mountain dew with my NEET bux. While others died of the Coof, I was jerking it to anime tentacle rape on Uncle Sam's dime."
"But why? Why would we reopen when we all could have lived like you?"
"It was the stocks. Our governor killed us all for a stock market jump."
Tears of sorrow and rage came to my eyes as I realized almost all of Georgia was likely dead now, sacrificed so that some squigly lines on a graph could go up, murdered by Governor Bryan Kemp.
I raised my fist towards the sky as the wretched stench of genocide filled my lungs.
DAMN YOU BRYAN KEMP!
DAMN YOU TO HELL!
I'm seeing much less masks. Bryan County & Camden County so far I've only seen masks on employees.
Its been sunny but cool since I got back from work travel and people are out. Seems like people are social distancing so far, but haven't been into either real city on the coast yet.
COVID-19 is so last week on the local Facebook sphere. Dindu vs Vigilante Rednecks is hot right now.
I don't think we should be in quarantine, because the devastation of a lockdown will hands down be worse than anything COVID could throw at us. I also personally feel its laughable human hubris to think government policy can stop an act of nature, but thats just me.
There is blatant and obvious fear mongering going on by the media.
That being said I do feel certain measures, such as social distancing, hand hygeine, masks IF DONE RIGHT, etc. are still good order.
Hopefully we will have a treatment sooner than later, but people can't stay laid off forever.

Maybe Eurofags have ditched Shakespeare for being too rustic and patriarchal or something, but Americans are "backward" enough to still make their high schoolers read him.

Shakespeare is very much required readin in them learnin places. Paw said Betty Sue needs to learn bout' the fate of Juliet fore she goes gallivanting off with one of those Mckormick boys. Ain't nothin good bout that family. They white trash they is.
And then there is Macbeth. Teach says that its alle...allie...allegeranical to Mayor Pete back in the 50s. Mayor Pete cheated to keep winning elections using money from his bootleg Shine factory. He then bought off the sherriff to start gettin rowdy with anyone who went and disagreed with him. Eventually the sheriff's deputies beat up some college kids sure to death and the Feds came down on him. They said he ended up in the loony bin and died.

Okay guys I want a sitrep from y'all. Reopenings are starting, the death toll is about 2000 a day now for us yanks, and the state gubments are going through various levels of madness.
What are your honest thoughts about the current situation? Do you think we should still be in quarantine? Do you think the coof is still as deadly as you did before?
Well now we know where we stand after this hit the rest of the world. In the early days it looked more like a super death plague where you catch pneumonia and die instantly, with China covering up millions of deaths. We saw what was coming out of china didn't match what the CCP and WHO were saying. That makes people suspicious.
Months in, what we are seeing still isn't what the officials are saying. Where are the mass deaths? They moved the goalposts and changed flattening the curve to mean "completely eradicate infections" and social distancing to mean "don't go outside ever". I don't think this was orchestrated to hurt Orange Man Bad. It's just politicians being opportunists in the worst way possible, remember Pelosi delaying the stimulus bill to try to see if they'd pass some of her ridiculous demands out of desperation? Also, this is way easier to get their base to rally behind compared to Biden. There might be berniebros who are pissed about Biden but they are pro lockdown because this is the path that will lead to the socialist revolution. That, and this plays to their beliefs that americans are fucking retards and we can't be trusted to take precautions on our own, so we need to be treated like kids who get put in time out (extending lockdowns) for disobeying stay at home orders.
And I hate how science has been bastardized by this. Models being revised to show less and less predicted deaths is fucking normal, the scientific process is all about knowing you might not have been proven wrong today, but you may be tomorrow. They think of scientists as the people who discovered important scientific laws and theories, ie infallible gods who were 100% right. Most scientists aren't gonna be that. At this point, shouting listen to the science and pointing at outdated doomsday models is the same as qanon TRUST IN THE PLAN shit.
We know who the coof is deadly for a lot better than we did months ago. (Remember the speculation it was more deadly for Asian and Italian people?) That should be used to inform our policy decisions, not a shitty computer model that was coded so badly it should have been thrown out. It'd be better if we relaxed restrictions and allowed more people to work so they could take care of the vulnerable people in their families, but what do I know, wanting to risk your life or health to protect people more vulnerable than you is toxic masculinity now.
Alright phase 1 is in! Almost everyone went straight into phase 1. Madrid is the only autonomy that got told to sit this one on phase 0. And aside from that barcelona and some other heavily affected cities and the megacities except for seville have been kept on phase 0 but most of spain is now on the path to freedom. Total normalcy except for borders is phase 3. Borders reopening is phase 4. Phase 1 is the reopening of bars, museums, spectacles and other tertiary sectors but with reduced aylum. And the beaches, natural parks and well everything that's an open space.
Hilarious fact of the day. What we have seen a massive spike of is spaniards seeking to migrate to the rural and semirural areas, specially the ones tellecommuting. They made many of the transactions before but until phase 1 they couldn't actually go to their second homes. And we've seen a fucking exodus as a result. As it seems the nation's gotten the memmo that megacities are deathtraps.
This is specially hilarious due to politics. The right wing has always tried to push people out of the rural areas here in spain. Partially this is due to them being globalists. Partially because the rural areas are much friendlier to guerrillas like the GAL and ETA which were a pain in the ass of the regime and it seems the PP wishes to ensure they can't go back to that if a new regime happens... I'm sure it's nothing. But most importantly it's because of madrid. As I told you before. Ellectoral law in spain is broken. For many reasons. On of the big reasons is that our provinces have a different number of seats asigned to them. This is supposedly by pop density, though it's coded in a way that not only do denser areas have more seats. But indeed have so many that a vote from a rural or semirural area actually is worth much, much less than one from a dense area. But this doesn't end there. Basically. The way seats are won, getting over half of the votes of the country means nothing, so long as you get them from the wrong areas. Madrid and Barcelona hold the keys to government. Period. And the way the equation gives an advantage to the "winner" of each region, if someone is to get 60% of the votes of a region, they can get well over 90% of the seats if the rest of the vote is divided in 2 or more.
As such, PP's long term plan was to pander ceaselessly to madrid and keep expanding it like crazy. They even refused to stop the building of the "zona norte" to try and pull even more people there. Hoping to keep madrid's left divided and right voting for them so they can ensure victory.
Welp. Now with our small biz based infustry decentralization comes naturally and centralization requires strong artificial investment, as jobs tend to localize around the resources fast. The one thing keeping the exodus from going into overload was the consumer base being localized artificially. And now we both have a strong push towards tellecommuting and a population that is trying its hardest to escape the megacities.
Yeah those plans to turn madrid into new york have just gone to hell. And I'm fairly sure the current gov will be more than happy not to stop the migration. The more they spread the better as far as most are concerned.
Only question is what will this do to madrid's economy. But they still have a long way to go before they really crash. Plus it's not like they have the kind of extreme poverty NYC sees and they still have a middle class. So they won't fall that hard. And honestly I for one am quite happy with madrid suffering economically at least a little bit. Because cadiz is a great place to live if you tellecommute, and it seems spaniards have noticed. So my tiny broken province, so long pushed down and ignored, is now seeing a large influx of money as people start buying homes. And expects an even larger influx of people and money as people keep migrating. So it seem madrid's woe is going to drive us forward. I talked before about how bleak our past and present have been, and how the future looked... Seems that ends here. Our fellow spaniards have come with help. And they wish to stay. If this keeps being like this and job creation naturally follows the migration I might be able to find work home and stay in the city I love. I'm fucking crying.

For the record. Shakespeare isn't mandatory here in spain. Never was. But I'm fairly sure that has less to do with nationality and more to do with english being a second language here, you know. Unless you're also reading Cerbantes, El Lazarillo de Tormes, La Casa De Los Espiritus, El Esperpento, Ortega, el Guardian Entre El Centeno, and all that shit.
Early US citizens and pioneers were often far more literary than you might expect. It wasn't uncommon for gold prospectors or settlers to have a copy of Shakespeare or for a travelling band to perform a Shakespeare play. It was even a street fight over who was the best Shakespearean actor that led to the first routine arming of police in New York.
EDIT: Of course they could just be quoting the movie True Romance where characters use the phrase Rotten in Denmark repeatedly. But I prefer to imagine the best.

It's more than that. Shakespeare is part of normal speech for us burgers. The Bard kind of predicted what life would be like in the US, gave us some useful ideas and phrases that are just part of the culture.
"Out, out damn spot!" is something I say a couple times a day, after wolfing down another bag of cheeseburgers.
"With this spot I damn thee!" is what I whisper every time I train a laser sight on a jogger.
"Get thee to a nunnery!" comes up every time I meet someone's Mom.
It's just normal, everyday speech in America, nothing exceptional.
I’m still wondering about the Chinese initial reaction.
Back at the start, that reaction and the early data on this virus made me think we were looking at something with maybe a 1-3% mortality rate and we’d end up with maybe 35mill dead worldwide. Now it’s looking more like a 0.4% rate (which is nothing to be sniffed at, thats nasty for a new virus which no one has immunity to) but would revise the death tolls down a fair bit.
But still that Chinese reaction was insane. How much of that was real and how much was propaganda? How much was informed? What do they know about this virus, and why haven’t they had significant outbreaks elsewhere? Are we expected to believe that places adjacent to Wuhan are fine while places across the globe are not? the picture doesn’t add up.
I’m still not entirely sure we know what we are looking at. the dynamics of it don’t really make a lot of sense in the west either. Present since November, but not exploding until late February. That’s quite a long lead in for an epidemic. Were we seeing cases in January? We need to go back and check where samples exist.
I still feel like we are missing something quite fundamental wrt the epidemiology.

Even back when I was in full doom mode I figured that China was also overreacting.
You hear things like "ZOMG crematoria capacity for 30million people a day" and you can't help but question it. I mean, that's what 3% of the Chinese population on the first day you use it? Higher % each day after?
So while there was some cause for alarm, it was also very obvious that mid-level commie bureaucrats were using this as an excuse to be seen doing big things, and also as an excuse to do the petty tyrant shit we've seen from American State Governors, but on steroids because China.
Wait, so is there just going to be a measured approach moving forwards, which will mean that cities are going to get fucked in the ass? And the rest of the populace living in rural/village areas will be given less strictures?
I’m still wondering about the Chinese initial reaction.

Hospitals are already trying to rush being open (at least the one I've been talking about I don't know what goes on in others) removing all their Covid units one by one every week just to meet criteria, so good fucking luck NY state!
Watch this madlad keep extending it though because of muh no deaths despite majority the deaths being caused by nursing home fuckups and doctors scrambling in the Covid units. Fucking headless chickens.
EDIT: Reason they're removing all the Covid units is because they're going to make room for the usual ICU and other units beds opening up so it looks good on paper. Dunno how many corona patients there are now but I've heard a few are being discharged already, including hospital staff that got sick so progress?
On one hand I'd like for at least ONE part of NY, even if it's NYC, to open up again, but I don't really trust those Health + Hospitals managing anything well. If it's not relating to nurses and doctors they really could give less of a shit about every other hospital staff. They can and will fuck it up and then NY will stay closed longer.

I really hope he won't but I know that's a far stretch. It'll be extended until the end of the year and small businesses will get fucked even worse. I hope people will remember this at the polls, but then again it -is- New York unfortunately.
Polish news: for the second day in a row, more than half of all new infections came from one area (the Silesian miners). Despite this, despite family meetups on Easter and despite gradual loosening of restrictions, they say the fabled R is merely 1.02. Get this one area under control and we got this. Hopefully the miners will be fine... I mean, working in a mine isn't great for your lungs, but they are tough, young and middle-aged men.
The election shitstorm continues, there will definitely be no voting as scheduled, but other than that nothing is certain and anything from next week up to August is still in play. Personally I'd go out and vote tomorrow. South Koreans did and there's no Great Dying over there.
Got gas, not much, but got it anyway. $2.40/gallon for regular, cheapest in my immediate area.
Then to the base exchange. Had to put on mask before going through the door. Found what I needed, got it and left.
Lastly, to the commissary. Mask on again. Biggest thing I noticed is a near-total lack of fresh pork. Wanted some ribs. No go. Got here about 11:00 Pacific Daylight Time. Those there before me may have gotten it all. Watched two Korean women buying all the meat they were allowed to. Brought back memories of shopping in commissaries in Korea. You'd see Korean wives of GIs buying everything rationed, up to their limits, every month. Lots of that stuff ended up downtown on the black market. This is why, least in the 70's and 80's, Korean wives of GIs were generally not well thought of on base in Korea. They were referred to as "hogs". Less for people who actually earned the benefit. Got the other meat needed, which wasn't much. Otherwise, the only thing I couldn't find was dried basil leaves. The spices still haven't been properly restocked. Some empty shelves and thin areas, but improving overall. Got the first fresh local cherries today - $3.99/pound. Not bad for the first of the crop. Should have cherries into July now. Finished, paid, left, mask off.
A thought - see all different sorts of masks available, various designs. I'll pass. In my opinion, buying any mask than a basic utilitarian mask is buying into having to wear a mask at all, unless you are already in poor health. Not wasting the money. Only wear a mask when going into stores. Don't do that much. Looking forward to throwing the mask away at the first opportunity.

Shakespeare is still around, but gets wokeified like everything else. If a theater is putting on a production of The Tempest, chances are good they'll make Prospero a woman, because they can't stand the thought of a patriarchal man having that much power and moral agency. If they put on "The Taming of the Shrew" at ALL, they'll turn Kate into a husband-murderer at the end because she's obviously a victim of torture and PTSD.
