From my personal experience, immigrants who never learned English when coming to America end up creating their own Tower of Babel; because they only know one language, they can’t get better jobs, can’t move out of their communities for better opportunities, have to rely on their kids who learned the language (if they have any around) and are overall less successful than immigrants who integrated and learned the language.
So yeah, not really queen shit or something to be proud of.

My first thought upon reading it was "Oh no, how many times did his mother get taken advantage of/brushed off?" I'd imagine if she had to get in a legal battle for any reason it would be more of a nightmare than usual since she'd be hearing a ton of jargon even English speakers have a hard time understanding.
