I'm crossposting my post in the Munchie thread because it's relevant here as well.

In Ready to Glare's new video some lab tech falsified a bunch of lab results because she was cheap and got a bunch of people's kids taken away from them. She mentions at the beginning of the video that apparently there is a conservation going on online right now about how bullies all become nurses. So the comment section is basically about that and I just found this one comment that was so THAT HAPPENED and I wonder how many of the people with a lot of medical trauma and bad nurses are actually Munchies mad about getting a reality check. Then again it makes sense someone who wants to prey on the vulnerable would become a nurse and there's Munch by proxy health professionals too so I'm not saying it's an invalid issue or anything, but you may want to keep an eye on it because Munchies will be really into it. Hope we get more hilarious tales of munchies being "medically abused" aka not being coddled. By "conversation online" other than this comment section they probably mean Twitter and maybe tumblr too but I'm unaware which hashtags it's mostly going under.

I can definitely believe bullies could get into nursing. There's been multiple cases of serial killer nurses so it makes sense that some people would get into the profession for some kind of power trip.

But nursing is also a grueling, soul-sucking job where the workers are overworked and underpaid, so I feel like the typical high school bully type wouldn't last very long before getting burnt out.

Can confirm. Nursing sucks ass. It is thankless and does not pay well. No one respects you as a hall nurse or a CNA. No one notices you. You will perform 90% of all hands-on tasks in your ward, and yet the doctor and senior LPN will take credit for every successful thing you do without even being present for said things, when it comes time for HR to do performance reviews and determine who gets a raise.


You will come home with scrubs smelling of every bodily fluid the human body produces, but, small mercy- after the first few months you'll stop even noticing the stench. There are two kinds of people who avoid the burnout: The "genuine calling" types who view the work as "helping humanity" or some idealistic shit, and then the people who are simply too far in debt to risk being without pay should they fail to find another job.


All this to say that I have a hard time imagining a bully mentality lasting long in any modern nursing environment. Nursing does not leave you feeling empowered when you go home at the end of the day.


EDIT: You could bully the patients to try and feel powerful, maybe, but that won't last long before you get caught as most hospitals have extensive observational security. That plus regulations maintaining a number of nursing staff present in any given environment would prevent you from getting alone with a patient easily. And once our hypothetical bully gets caught even once? That's it- He's done for life. No other hospital, not even a desperate one, would touch you with a ten foot pole if you have an abuse record.
