There are three feet in a yard. An acre is one furlong by one chain and a chain is one tenth of a furlong which is one eighth of a mile. It's a pile of accumulated unplanned terms. Metric isn't better because it's decimalized. That actually makes the mathematics harder. Hell, even at a computer level I believe it would be easier to build low level libraries that worked with octal or hex rather than decimals as standard. Metric is better because it's consistent. You have metres, kilometres, square kilometres... People are fixated on tens because they have ten fingers (except in Norfolk). It's not the best number system and is thought to be so almost solely due to familiarity.

Fuck decimalization! It was a pandering move to the mathematically illiterate. But I'll take it over something that has no standard terms of scaling (kilo- mega- giga-) or self-consistency.

Having more factors is nice, but it makes things a lot more difficult when you're dealing with numbers spanning several orders of magnitude. This doesn't matter so much for currency, but it'd be really annoying in engineering. Say, for example, that you defined 1 super-ounce to be 240 ounces, and 1 ultra-ounce to be 240 super-ounces. That means that there's 57,600 ounces in an ultra-ounce, and the next tier up would be 13,824,000 ounces. Dividing things into whole numbers doesn't really come into most engineering anyway, so easy factoring wouldn't even be much of an advantage. It just makes more sense to have your units use the same base system you use when writing numbers out.

Now, on the other hand, if we were to convert our numerals to a base-30 system, we could have the best of both worlds. But I'm pretty sure that the US wouldn't be the only ones to resist that change.

Here's a breakdown of recent new cases by voivodeship. I have flagged the two where all the problem mines are so you can see how they're inflating the overall stats. Everywhere else is pretty chill. They're currently screening a significant portion of the Silesian mining industry workforce, so I'm expecting some rather bloated numbers in the upcoming days, then a sharp drop.

I have no idea how this is going to play out. On one hand, that's a lot of infected miners and probably their families, who might have potentially spread it elsewhere in the meantime. On the other hand, over 95% of the infected miners don't have any symptoms. At all. Even though they're all men (so in theory more vulnerable) who don't get much vitamin D.

These “Phased opening plans” are the perfect example of why nobody trusts experts anymore. Any person with even a casual understanding of human nature knows exactly how things are going to re-open. People will begin doing what they want from the moment they step outside. Any agency or business that seeks to just trickle out freedoms will either be simply ignored, or in the case where they become to shrill to ignore, curb stomped until they can be ignored. Humans are funny that way. No big plan is needed to restart the economy anywhere. People will simply do it. Any business that chooses not to will fail immediately. Any government official that seeks to interfere will find themselves unemployed by the public. And this will begin happening naturally at 6 weeks, regardless of what any “experts“ say. You get sex weeks, that’s the maximum extent of most people’s patience unless the streets are filling with bodies.

It's worked fine enough with the walk shit. But yeah the more they open the less people will give a shit. Either way our experts did recommend against this quota shit. (Their idea was just bars open this day, churches and multitudinary places this other, etc. No quotas just open things gradually by how much of a vector they are) and I'm fairly sure this is the perfect demonstration why our stupid ass politicians should've fucking listened instead of doing it their way first. As with every other time they tried to deviate, they'll have to chsnge the law next session. I swear this is like the 20th time they've done it since february. But they just don't learn.
