So I'm thinking about getting a Vita because there is supposedly a Saga Frontier sequel coming out for it next year. Do any of you guys have one? What are some other great RPGs or action RPGs? I plan on getting Persona 4 (will be my first persona game), Dragon's Crown, the Metal Gear bundle, and FFX.

I have one.

It depends what kind of games you're willing to play; a portion of the games aren't translated.

Freedom Wars is basically a Team Deathmatch Monster Hunter/God Eater Burst. Disgaeas feel better on the vita than on normal consoles to me so I highly recommend that. The Rayman games area always fun on it, Skullgirls will be released soon.

Is there a Vita emulator around? I wanna check if my rig can run Disgaea 4's remake.
Emulators don't usually come about til after the console has lost relevance. For a variety of reasons. The biggest being companies are extremely prone to C&Ding them.

If you're into the Disgaea series, I recommend getting the remake for 4. It's so good and filled with SRPG goodness. There's also Dragon's Crown and Muramasa Rebirth since you're into Action RPGs. Dragon's Crown has a online mode while Muramasa is a more single player experience. I also heard that Tales of Heart R is fun, but the localization is crap from what I heard.

Are you planning to download any games from the store? I recommend these the most if you have a reasonably sized memory card.
Xenogears
Persona 3 Portable

Xenogears
wat

No offense, but isn't Xenogears the worst Xenogame by Monolith Soft members [because FF8 happened]? Or is that Xenosaga?

That actually goes to Xenosaga Ep 2. Xenogears actually has a nice battle system. It's just the dungeon design and disc two that fucks up the game. Xenosaga took the good stuff from episode one and makes it worst. It's the game that killed that series.

Anyway, I'm going to look at my games on my Vita later on this week to get some better ideas.

On the top of my head I would recommend Persona 4 Golden, Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice Delta, Gravity Rush, Wipeout, Killzone, Tales of Graces R, Hot Shots Golf, Uncharted and Dynasty Warriors Next. These games pretty much got me through long boring train rides for the past 4 years and are easy to just jump into and continue when you need to.

Disgaea 3 and 4 are pretty hit or miss depending on how you like your games, personally I couldn't really get into them. Hyperdimension Neptunia games which seem to be shitted out every season now can be fun if you're a grinding masochist. As for the ports, Injustice, DOA5, Metal Gear Solid and Marvel vs Capcom 3, Dragon's Crown and Final Fantasy X + X-2 are pretty solid ports, Borderlands 2 ported over fairly well if you don't care that the framerate is like 26fps.

If you're into rythym games DJ Max and the Hatsune Miku games are pretty good. Project Diva F2nd is actually 20 dollars right now and can be addictive if you're into robotic sounding music sung by a robots designed like teenagers and children.

There's no monster hunter for vita, but Ragnarok Odyssey and Toukiden aren't too shabby as replacements.

The ninja gaiden games aren't too bad either.

The weeb games are pretty hit or miss, and I'm too lazy to name them all. If you're into stripping girls you should look into Akiba's Trip. If you're into having forced sex with female classmates and impregnating them to create blessed children to fight for you you should look into Conception 2. If you're into rubbing the breasts of women and recruiting them into your party, I'd recommend Valhalla Knights 3. If you're into semi-naked girls enrolled in a ninja academy fighting each other, I'd recommend Senran Kagura Shinobi Versus.

Oh, and if you're ever under the influence of narcotics, you may find Reality Fighters pretty exciting.

Anyways, if you have a game you're interested in for vita, just ask because I have no life and most likely played it.

I played my Vita and I came up a list of games that might interest you. I could some non RPGs if you're open to other games.

Grandia: It's a 90s JRPG with a adventure feel, the feel is so infectious that it stands out. Plus I love the opening music.
Final Fantasy IX: I found this better then both VII and VIII. I love the cast and their world, almost every aspect works here.
LittleBigPlanet Vita: If you're into that series, this is a good addition to the series
Vib Ribbon: If you like rhythm games, it's really a cute one.
Rogue Legacy: It's a wonderful platform/roguelike game that's pretty addicting if you don't mind dying a lot. It's a great game to play on the go.
Ys Seven: I believe you can get this on PSN. here's a video if it catches your eye.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys!

I'm really blown away by the amount of RPGs for the system. @LordDarkrai I do plan on getting every FF game for the system. Never played IX, that is definitely on my list. Played Rogue Legacy on PC, never played a Ys game but I've heard good things about the series.

@Kirby I thought you were just a shitposter? Really though, thanks for the thought out post. Not too much in to rhythm games, and I already have MH4U so I don't want any other hunting games, but I have heard great things about Disgaea and will probably pick up 4. The weeb games are.... interesting. I have Senran for 3DS but haven't played it much. Conception sounds bizarre, I might have to try that out just out of morbid curiosity. I see that it's also on 3DS, so I'll have to find out which plays better.

Sucks that Breath of Fire 3 isn't available in the US. That game kicked my ass as a kid and I need my revenge.

I guess I should have added in my OP that I am a heavy 3DS fanboy, and I have most of the good games for the system. So any Vita purchases I make will most likely be exclusives or games that have no similar 3DS counterpart.

Most importantly, I've heard rumors of a Vita redesign. Any thoughts on this? I could easily hold out a few months for a new model (Xenoblade is about to take up a bunch of my time anyway).

Vita is freaking amazing. It's comfortable to use, everything on the screen looks extremely crisp, it has a better battery life in comparison to the 3DS, the touch screen is very responsive and it's decent for browsing the internet.
PS1 games, PS2 remakes, PSP games. And some pretty decent exclusives.
I recommend the Disgaea remakes as well as Phantom Brave: Hermuda Triangle for RPGs.
If you're looking for some action get Muramasa: The Demon Blade (one of my all time favourite beat 'em ups), Uncharted: Golden Abyss or Killzone: Mercenary (probably the best FPS on vita and a damn good killzone game).
I would also suggest getting Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite, it's not quite on par with MH4U, but still a damn satisfying (if grindy) experience. And while I'm typing about Monster Hunter, God Eater: Burst and Toukiden are also pretty enjoyable.
It also has Minecraft and Terraria, both of which are very good ports.

Bought a Vita off eBay today, along with Persona 4, Conception 2, and Dragon's Crown. Need to get Disgaea 4 as well. My backlog is starting to look daunting :(

I own a Vita with 9 games currently, most of them RPGs. It's a decent system in its own right.

-Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention
-Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisted
-Dragon Crown
-Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster
-Gravity Rush
-Muramasa Rebirth
-Persona 4 Golden
-Tales of the Hearts R
-Ys: Memories of Celeceta

Pet Peeve: SaGa Frontier is the name for the 2 PS1 Games. The series itself is called simply SaGa, starting with a trilogy of games for the original gameboy(released in the US under the titles Final Fantasy Legend in order to sell better), then with the Romancing SaGa Trilogy for the Super Famicom and after the frontier games was Unlimited SaGa. On top of those were the remakes of the first SaGa game and the first Romancing SaGa game for the Bandai Wonderswan Color, then remakes of SaGa 2 and SaGa 3 for DS, and a PS2 Remake of the first Romancing SaGa that actually came stateside unlike the other remakes. I am looking forward SaGa 2015. I own all of the previously mentioned games, including the remakes, so I plan to get it as well.

I somehow missed that there were DS ports of the first two games, I'll have to see if I can find the ROMs and put them on my DSTwo.

Frontier is just one of those nostalgic games for me - I got it when I was like 13, and I was too young to fully dive in and complete it. Instead the game was kind of a mystery to me and I had fun just exploring and finding all these odd things about the almost open world. I should load up an emulator and complete it, but part of me is hoping for some type of rerelease of the game on modern consoles.
