Brianna Wu / John Walker Flynt - "Biggest Victim of Gamergate," Failed Game Developer, Failed Congressional Candidate

Optics shouldn't have even been an issue. "I am a horrible monster who killed my dog" should have been the issue.

Let's assume for a moment that Wu didn't, because that's what most people thought.

This is someone who, when an allegedly beloved pet was dying, rather than take it to the vet to save its life, rather than do anything logical or reasonable, sperged about it, on Twitter, for about 16 hours. During this time, dozens of Wu's own followers kept asking why she wasn't taking the dog to the fucking vet. Wu didn't. Wu's entire reason for doing this was the same as it always was: to bait harassment - she immediately was trying to blame Crash's hypothermia and encephalitis on a fucking hashtag. We know now that the dog's death was entirely her doing by leaving the dog out in the cold overnight by accident, but Brianna Wu's first fucking response was to try to find a way to use it against her enemies.

No remotely normal human being thinks, when they are faced with the tragedy of a lost loved one: "I bet I can use this against people I hate." Brianna Wu did, and it's the perfect microcosm of how fucked up she is.

I was, just recently and on KF, shown Franks exchanges with his ex-wife and it genuinely makes me wonder if "loved one" is an actual part of their reality - or maybe it'sliterally ONE, each themselves.
I shudder to imagine the vitriol and venom that would spew forth if they ever decide there is strategic advantage on turning on one another

hope this isn't too spergey, tag appropriately, but that's kind of a line -- as a guy who has doggos a part of the family..if there was "a mob" out for me and the pooch was in trouble..on goes the helmet, everyone grabs a hammer or garden tool and the dog goes to medical

Not to mention that John didn't take a few seconds to think, "how exactly would Gamergate be at fault for MY inability to take proper care of my dogs?". But then he most likely screamed "STOP MANSPLAINING!" to his brain and then took some Ambien to teach his dumb brain who's boss.

No, I'm guessing game devs' first thought would also be "wow, that looks cool." Y'know, because a normal first reaction is based off of things you can see right away. Technical sperging comes later.

Two more things: I like how John uses a woman emoji for "game developers" when I'm 100% positive game development is majority male, same as basically every other STEM field. I also like the implication that game devs aren't normal people, which I guess applies to John. Then again, John isn't a game dev, so...
Here's the attention you ordered, John.

Y'know, for someone who's supposedly really invested in cybersecurity, it's odd that John would offhandedly shit on a tech company that's pretty much solely dedicated to security and user privacy. Truly bizarre.

And only idiots would blindly upgrade during active development. Treating it like a Window update is what hobbyists using Unity does, they are always confused when their project breaks, it's not like the devs behind the new Arkham game will walk into the office one morning and discover that IT have pushed UE5.0 on to every computer and they just have to deal with it.

You'd think an Apple aficionado like John would understand the hazards of wantonly updating base software that may break an app that ran on the previous vers....

...oh wait.

(wasnt R60 un-downloadable or un-runnable on a later version of iOS?)

If memory serves, it was developed at the time to only work on only the top tier iPhones/iPads, and it took on an obscene amount of space. It’s been in the App Store on and off. After lying to her fans saying the “remastered” version would be a free update, she made it a new app and charged full price for it. It was removed in 2017-18.

This is when most people realized John is an actual psychopath. He didn't just eventually settle on blaming his dog's death on Gamergate, he instantly went there without even an instant of mourning. His tweets leading up to it were even, arguably, an entirely premeditated attempt to set it up that way.

This was transparent even to the dumbest of his followers at the time, which raises the question of why they put up with it.

Oh, yeah. Because they're absolute trash themselves.

Imagine the sheer incompetence of this. I still have apps I bought for a dollar with the very first version of the iPhone, like the Koi Pond app from The Blimp Pilots. I bought this 12 years ago for the original iPhone. It still works just fine.

Revolution 60? Nowhere to be seen. Serious real "software engineer" going on here. True "engineering."

I think it was iOS 11 that dropped support for 32bit apps in 2017.

For most developers it wasn't a huge issue, and they had plenty of warning. But Wu had long since stopped giving a shit about r60, and the code was probably a complete shitshow.

Has the 18 core computer even been bought yet? What does a UE5 announcement mean to anything anyway? You had to know it was coming eventually, Epic always coordinates these with the console generations. They even specifically said it was timed for availability in 2021 to match the PS5 in the announcement.

Plus, there's nothing stopping you from continuing to use UE4. There's hundreds upon hundreds of things already in development for future release using it that will continue using it as their base. Epic's not going to drop support for it. Hell, they probably won't even port Fortnite right away. Nobody else (except the very very largest partners) will even be able to start development on UE5 until 2021.

If anything this is manna from heaven, Wu can deliberately put off any kind of fake development until UE5 is fully available (i.e. not preview/early adopter) in 2022.

edit: This reminded me, I wanted to post something here for the people unfamiliar with it, Unreal Editor has these built-in game templates which are basically near fully fledged gameplay modules, you just have to produce the content and edit it to get an actual game prototype up and running:
1589427251932.png
The first person module is so complete that you can spend an afternoon and make an entire level with enemies and shit without needing to ever touch any code, especially if you go into the store for assets. There's tons of free stuff too like I could start that up and instantly place a hundred different kinds of trees and bushes all over the default map because they're free in the store. Even physics are built in, you can change the gravity through a simple box and whether or not physics effect objects with a checkbox, there's all kinds of lighting you just drag and drop, etc.

That's how easy they've made it. So when you see a Wu or Jake Alley whining about how obtuse it is, they are literally just being lazy, you don't even have to code anymore in UnrealScript because it's fucking gone, it's all menus and boxes. In theory, a faggot like Wu could easily take two months and create a working prototype for Revolution 62 or whatever with placeholder art and assets they could then shill on kickstarter, etc. UE3, which Rev60 used, required like at least ten times the work probably. And IIRC, it wasn't entirely free like 4 and 5.

R60 was taken down by Giant Spacekat Studios in late 2015, allegedly, so it could be re-released with content from the Special Edition. It was down for about 6 months, but it did go back up on IOS later that year.

The real reason it got taken down was because of complaints about performance. The game's overall structure is hilariously inelegant and, as you can see from Smutley's playthrough, ran like shit on cutting-edge hardware. GSX did some minor tweaks that fixed performance a bit and while it did add the new character models, it still runs like absolute shit on a phone or iPad compared to the PC release. It's also IOS-exclusive because Wu has the mindset of a console warrior in regard to other platforms.

Because John thinks that's he's the face of game development.

If he is, that face fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, and then got hit by the ugly truck afterwards.

Its been a while since we tried to do an autopsy on R60, but I believe the reason it ran like shit is because it was poorly optimized and was loading in rendering for things it damn well didn't need to be doing, like the reverse sides of walls or whatever a player character would never, ever see.

It also was built over a long period of time, most likely without any kind of internal documentation, by a revolving door of entry level programmers Wu hired/fired like the bad guy of Ocean's Thirteen did with casino contractors simply to claim sole ownership of the final product.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. Considering how much auto-culling there is in both software and hardware anymore you really need to work at it to achieve that.

I was born in '92 so I didn't have to fuck around with all of this old stuff as a kid interested in computers.

My question is does this actually impress anyone? It just sounds like some Boomer talking about how shit was so much better back in the day, meanwhile they can't turn their own TV on because they have two remote controls for the TV and DirecTV box.
It's neat to fuck around with my Commodore 64. Would I use it as my daily driver? Uh... most likely not.
