Diseased Shippers, Anti-Shippers, and Shipping Wars - When fictional characters fucking each other is a political statement

My favorite dumpster fire keeps flaring up.

FrostyTeddyBear5 leaves another review where for the most part is in relation to the fic, but then they go on to mention why they compared the Rodan/Mothra shippers to Reylos previously. Their explanation for it fucking sucks, though, but I bet it's because in their eyes, the two ships (or the shippers behind them) are one and the same.

TicTokRockSocks comes back, but no concubine comment this time. (Not included in screencap: truckloads of severe kaiju sex thirst.)

This is worth some popcorn. Didn’t know the Godzilla fanbase had shit like this, lol.

I didn't, either, I thought this shit would flare up on Tumblr or Twitter first, though, not a fanfic series. I haven't gone deep into the fandom before now tbh, so the only ship I was aware of was Mothzilla, but that was more of a very lowkey ship that didn't get traction until last year--I think if there were fights over it, it was between them and the Battra/Mothra shippers, but again, very lowkey. I wouldn't be surprised if there was once a slapfight on the Toho forums years ago (which, from what I heard, is a dumpster fire of a forum itself, but I never dug into it).

EDIT: Oh shit, guess I have to drag in the sex thirst now. :story: Okay, top screenshot is the context to the pile-up that's happening.

>sex was the best part of their friendship history rofl

I believe these are the same people who in the previous story were asking the author to write the sex scene Godzilla had with one of his (backstory) past flings, by the way, since a character had mocked Mothra about it in a flashback chapter. The thirst is real, guys.

Oh my God it's still going.

This is a bit overwhelming, though, and since I sincerely doubt anyone else here knows what's being talked about besides "Rodan should've continued to tap that insect booty", I'm just gonna stick this under spoiler tags. The only editing I did was move the reviews from oldest to newest, nothing's been taken out.

The author made a profile note showing her disappointment towards her readers, baffled she has to make some clarifications and a quick call-out. No, she's not new to the Internet, she's just new to the attention she's been getting.

She's still not bending towards one side of the aisle or the other, however, which is good. She's still going to write how and what she pleases, but I worry a bit about her morale.

Guests write blocky call-outs toward the readers.

Remains to be seen if the dumpster fire will die down.

Don't you know that SKREEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOONK is just Godzilla for "I love you and want it in the butt"?

"Bidibidibidi" roughly translates to "Let's make babies".

Probably gonna be the last update for a while (like hoping for at least a month, but lol shipping soldiers never sleep). Was mostly waiting for Shadowblade217 to make a return to give his final(?) thoughts on the matter, and now he has. He claims the two-shot helps cleared things up for him in terms of Rodan's character and bringing closure, but then like clockwork still goes on to bitch about how sexually-charged he is as a MALE like that's his only character trait.
shadowblade217_01.png

Shadowblade must have a shitty memory or something because he totally did notice, but his mind fizzled out over the sex cutaway that made up his whole rant in his first review. Literally the same thing he whined about then was always present there, but that fic's narrative didn't call for a full scene, of which he totally would've had the same problems with to virtue signal over. Also don't know who he's trying to fool here, he's never shipped the two to begin with because he hates Rodan's guts, he was always open about that.

Thought I should mention in aside that he has a small "anti-reylo" tag on his Tumblr (think there's more posts, tags are sparse it looks like), and this post I think encapsulates how he personally views Rodan here (probably thinks he's the Kylo Ren of kaiju):

He continues to be unhelpful about the warring in the comments because constantly bringing attention to it while wearing your hateboner on your sleeve will totally stop it from happening.
shadowblade217_02.png

It's one thing to be confused as hell about where all these strange people are coming from (some of them probably never bother to read these reviews for all I know), but then it's another to act holier-than-thou over their behavior no matter how shitty.

FrostyTeddyBear5 gives more unhelpful thoughts by tooting their own "I knew it!" horn in everyone's faces.
frostyteddybear5.png

This isn't going to be the last time they talk about this.

So I think the dumpster fire here is going to sizzle down until something comes up again later down the line, but the anti-shipper stance in calling out past behavior I don't think is going to stop future flare ups from happening. Frosty there is right to be sad that the fandom bullshit has hit the shores of the kaiju fandom (although elitism has been a long-time problem from what I've been told and have started seeing in like at Godzilla-Movies.com), but this is still self-contained to this corner as far as I can tell. Only time will tell when the fire'll spread out to social media and be a lost cause.

As the saying goes: History shows again and again how Nature shipping points up the folly of man.

I never get over the anti-Reylos trying to paint Rey as this delicate little flower that needs to be protected from big mean evil Kylo. It's so, so backhanded especially since I never see them do it with male characters like Hux or Poe. Like I think it's definitely "ewww girls are gross how dare this girl in the way of my buttsex" but outright saying that isn't woke so they dress it up as concern for the wellbeing of a fictional character that is many times shown to be Kylo's equal strength wise and beats the shit out of him multiple times.

Also the think of the children!!! nonsense. Little girls watched Anakin choke his pregnant wife and were fine. Seriously the silence from antis about Anadalli is also interesting.

It aint just Star Wars, either. I've seen anti-Sylvain het fans in Fire Emblem fandom claim his prospect wives were "sacrificing their agency for the sake of a man's happiness", and Sylvain's most popular ship just happens to be his MALE childhood friend Felix.

While browsing through a Tumblr blog, this post came up that I ended up reading through a few times to make sure I was reading it right. And so I checked out the OP's tags (and also checked to see who Chris is--as in Chris Terrio, same guy behind Batman v. Superman's screenplay).

Uhh... isn't it a bit of a stretch to do a compare-contrast between Star Wars and Godzilla? Like it's not a coincidence "Reylo" keeps popping up in irrelevant places as something to curse at? It's just inescapable at this point, isn't it?

This is actually really creative. It‘s pretty cringy for sure, but as long as they don’t insist that the ship is canon, I’m OK with this.

A Brazilian couple styled their wedding according to their favorite Saint Seiya ship aka Seiya/Saori (which IIRC either IS canon or would be if not for Saori being a goddess and Seiya a human), and apparently also had the guests cosplaying as other anime and videogame charas. I guess it's more than okay long as you're not an a-hole to others; it may be a bit cringy, but You Only Live Once so go for it if you can.

Never forget the time two people got married and had their wedding theme be based on a JoJo ship.

Y'know, I think if it's just for fun and they're not making money off of it, then whatever. People have done themes for their engagements and weddings all the time, and if they want to cosplay as their favorite fictional couple doing so or have some fun with a favorite ship of theirs and keyword is you're just having fun, then go for it, make the best of it and just don't forget to remember it's like a costume party. For a day you're all just wearing something unconventional because you just felt like doing so that day, but underneath all that garb is a person you're truly in love with as themselves and they love you back no matter how you dress or look like.

Using the OVA style for the poster is neat, actually, especially since this looks like it was from several years ago, so kudos to them and the artist for making it look good. Hope they're still happy to this day.

It's good that they had fun with it, yeah! Obviously they had a blast. Iirc one of the couple has a blog where they write essays about this ship, but they're not aggressive about it. It's pretty spergy, but there's worse things to obsess over.

I haven't watched it, but from what I gather She-ra made the main hero/villain ship canon in the finale. Is there any salt? I know I'm definitely not seeing salt like I have (and continue to see) about other hero/villain ships COUGHReylo, which is interesting but not surprising.

They did, and salty Sheith fans are throwing massive tantrums because some of the people who shipped it were also Klance shippers, who are all antis in the eyes of exceptional Sheith shippers. Therefore the antis "won". There's more deets on the Voltron thread, and the meltdown was hilarious.
