In this video by Sarah you will encounter three standard TERF talking points when it comes to TERFs justifying the fetishization of gay men by women:
1) severely circumscribing the topic so as to avoid every other example that's dismissed as an outlier: Sarah makes it seem like the complaint that straight women fetishize gay men is solely related to yaoi style gay slashfic or online fandoms. However, when I and others refer to the fetishization of gay men, we're not just referring to online slashfic communities, but everything from the fact that adult straight women that watch gay porn, to sexually predatory TIFs infiltrating gay bathhouses, to this cis female Youtuber who is a hardcore Jinkx Monsoon stan and even got herself a Monsoon tattoo to show off just how hard she's stanning for a gay drag queen. These are all examples of straight women fetishizing gay men and gay sex culture, but Sarah is going to ignore all of these examples - which she cannot justify using the talking points I will get to below - by severely circumscribing the topic to make it All About Slashfic while ignoring all the rest.
2) Infantilizing women in slashfic to make their fetishization of gay men seem innocent/unintentional. As for the claim that slashfic writers are young, that is simply not true. The first slashfic I myself ever read online back in the late 1990s was actually Scully/Mulder X-files slashfic written by overweight 40+ year old lesbian nuses. It wasn't even gay slashfic but straightAF slashfic meant to resolve the unresolved sexual tension between those two characters. What feminist explanation does Sarah have for 40 year old lesbian nurses writing Scully/Mulder straight slashfic?
3) Blaming violent/aggressive straight pornography for the fact that straight women are alienated from their own sexuality and sexual bodies and hence prefer to fantasize about/idealize/romanticize gay sexuality... as if gay pornography is any better than straight porn and isn't just as violent/aggressive and hence as alienating to gay men. Yes, believe it or not, plenty of gay men actually hate gay porn and the homophobic stereotypes it perpetuates.
There is this idea amongst TERFs that because the fetishization of gay men is driven by supposed internalized self-hatred amongst women, it's therefore not "real" fetishization - supposedly, because the idea that women simply like depictions of gay sexuality better, even for entirely sadistic reasons, has never crossed their minds. This is how TERFs then proceed to justify fetishization and sexual objectification on the part of women, by suggesting that it's driven by internal suffering and dissociation instead of selfish lustful desire (TERFs claim women are incapable of the latter). Of course no woman would ever admit that she fetishizes gay men because she really does view them as sexual objects or convenient fucktoys (convenient in that she can indulge them by proxy without this having any direct consequences for her as a woman because these are gay men and therefore entirely uninterested in women), because such an admission is verboten and aggressively disavowed amongst TERFs. Nope, women only ever enjoy gay depictions of sexuality because they hate themselves, not because women too are driven by lust, self-preservation and convenience to seek out these "alternative" depictions of sex. Sarah claims that women are traumatized by straight porn, but has she ever seen gay porn? It's really not all that different and is sometimes even more extreme than straight porn, especially some of the wide gape stuff. In gay porn too there is a submissive party and a dominant party, a top and a bottom. There are young gay men who testify to being hurt by these pornographic depictions of gay sexuality. The suggestion that gay sexuality is somehow more attractive to young straight women than pornographic straight sexuality is therefore absurd. Both gay and straight sexuality have been moulded and affected by online pornography.
This is why I will never buy into this bullshit that women fantasize about gay sex just because they are "traumatized by the patriarchy", as opposed to the far more likely answer: these women sincerely do often consider gay men better/more attractive sexual partners than the straight men around them, and sincerely wish they could fuck gay men and participate in gay sexual culture which they perceive as more "free" than straight sexual culture. But since they can't get with gay men because they are women, they write (resentful) slashfic and upon discovering radical feminism thus discover a convenient excuse to disavow their true feelings towards gay men, which are a combination of idolizing, romanticizing and fetishizing, or the very same impulses feminism teaches women to denounce in men. Women can thus disavow such "base" impulses in themselves by casting themselves as victims as opposed to perpetrators of sexual fetishization. Disavowing the politics of resentment at work here is just bad analysis. If Sarah spent more time reading the accounts of gay men she would know that gay men are very aware of straight resentment towards them, both from straight men and straight women.
