Fanmade Pokémon Designs (Fakemon) - Tracers, garbage designers, and of course, furries

*sigh* More proof millennial hipsters don’t understand basic design principles.
Eek. I cringed.

It is fun to draw characters in your own style. That’s what I did with the starters. Do I think I’m better than the artists who designed them? Hell no! Mine are very westernized and I tend to add instead of subtract details. It’s assholes who come across like they think they’re superior that are the worst.

Oh, don't worry. It gets worse!
They made Gothitelle from a goth lolita-style fortune teller to... whatever the hell that's supposed to be. They also removed the Raijin and Fūjin inspirations from the Legendary Genies.

Aren't a good chuck of fakemons just teens making mon designs? I feel like we need to have a sort of standard or list other wise we'll just be posting some kids art.
Also, to add to the thread, here's some of BW3's "characters"

Oh boy! Now I can finally play as a trap like I've always wanted! It ain't gay, right?

Pokemon clover has some pretty good designs and even has some of the better pun names I've seen in a fan game

I think the issue that most people have when making Fakemon is that they forget Pokemon designs are meant to be simple. They are comprised of only a few colours and are often uncluttered so they are easy to read.

Fakemons! Finally got a thread on the pokemon community art!

Fakemons aren't a bad concept in itself. It was going to happen anyways. Whether it was fans feeling dissatisfied with the series as a whole or people who love it so much they wanted to make their own, getting fakemons often come at mixed results. And that sums it up pretty well. Most of these designs aren't the worst I've seen compared to other fandoms. They remind me more of children's drawings. They looks weird and wonky, but it's clear there's a lot of heart put into them. Doesn't make them less unappealing in some cases, but I can't say the intention behind all of these are inherently disingenuous. Because it's really not like that for the most part.

In terms of tracing, it's the same major issues other fandoms like the Sonic community has in that it's so common thanks to bases/official posters being used so much it's almost impossible to tell. Some Fakemons are traces of traces of traces from other people's work. It's basically a cycle at this point. Same thing happened/still is happening in weeb communities. Bases from stolen art get traced over until eventually they all blend together.

What people forget about pokemon designs is that love them or hate them, they all share one thing: varied. Each pokemon is it's own thing and while some share similarities they still have some sort of appeal. That's one of the best part's about Pokemon honestly. Every design is appealing to SOMEONE. Even the weirder designs still have a fanbase. The main issue with Fakemon designs, especially in rom hacks is that they just aren't appealing enough. From a design standpoint you can tell that some mons were made with more love than others. It doesn't mean official pokemon aren't like that either. We all have our favorite designs, but with fakemon, even with the lore they get, they just have that overall lack of polish.

Let's take a look at Uranium (which has the best and worst of this) On one hand you get pokemon like Chimaconda:

Obviously it's a Chimera-like Fakemon, but what I like about this is that while looking completely bizarre with the colors, everything still works together. Same with official mons like Type:Null. They're supposed to look disturbing and weird, but eventually come into their own via evolution.

At the same time, Uranium also has mons like this:

While part of a 3 stage evolution, it's overall design is still way too simple. Even for pokemon standards. It's a long and clearly supposed to be graceful mon, but at the same time, nothing about it's design really hits that point just yet. It overall just feels a bit too strict. The iron armor and tail don't really leave you to the imagination. It looks more like a normal type and the only indication of it being steel is the armor.

Obviously I could go on, but it really is a mixed bag with these sorts of things.

Honestly don't really like both. The Chimera had potential but also comes off as too simplistic, and the wings look really strange. I definitely think with slight design changes it may improve though.
Gararewl, however, is definitely worse. Who was convinced this was a decent design by any means? Alot of the elements just clash. Also, another issue I'm seeing with some "steel" fakemon is that steel = "slap some armor on it and call it a day".

Ah, this bs. I remember a couple of artists got really assblasted because GCPM took a ton of art, marketed it off as " leaks " then tried to skirt around crediting them. I'm pretty sure that was really big drama on Reddit & it got so much attention that he made an apology. Idk if it's still up though. He's had to apologize for a lot of shit iirc

This is all I could find, but this?

SONICHU IS THE GREATEST FAN POKEMON OF ALL TIME!

Well that goes without saying.

I mean you're not wrong they just turned into the fury degenerate fandom earlier.

That was a trend after the design was finalized, it didn't influence Jynx's design.

The kanguro stuff has always been an American excuse for it's creation. Jinx itself is based off of a a mountain spirit called Yama-Uba.

yama-Uba wears a tattered kimono, similar to Jinxes design
has bleached white/golden hair Like jinxes
prominent lips often depicted as bright red like Jinxes
will seduce it's victims with dancing, jinx's pokedex entries talk about how she could hypnotize people through dance
Will draing it's victims life through more sexual manors, Kissing is such a charachteristic of this pokemon that it's baby form is called smoochum.
Lives in snowy mountains hence jinx's ice typing
and will appear as her eyes hair and lips in the dark basically jinx's face.
The key tip that jinx wasn't black but empty is her Pokemon stadium defeat animation where the the eyes and lip would disappear and jinx will crumple to the floor to be a pile of clothes and hair. Something that happened to Yama-uba when defeated.

If Jinx would have been a gohst type it would have been easier to swallow but at the same time people needed to be oppressed by the next big thing. My hope is they go full tilt and give the evolution of jinx that was suposedly leaked a mouth on the top of the head like her yokai counterpart to hammer home what she was based off of. It kind of makes sense since the sound clip that was discovered sounds like it has two voices but game freak has let us down before.

Our confusion is that as americans we wouldn't know of a rarely talked of japanese gohst story and have our own history with black face. It's always pissed me off because it's shows how closed minded people are when they assume every other country has to understand our history when they create something. That and they fixed Kadabra's pentagram before it came to the U.S.

What is it even? Some kind of sheep? A vegetable lamb of tartary reference? Its just fucking hideous.

But I have seen some fakemon or redesigns which I think look good. And some which only look better than some of the lamer new ones, but that ain't saying much.

I always thought Jynx was based on Woo from Ultraman.
