It was especially easy to tell when the Democrat talking points during the debates were pretty much from Twitter. They aren’t bringing things up to bolster a base like Trump can. Instead, it’s all about socialized healthcare, troons, racial inequality and stricter gun laws (in other words, issues that Twitter cares about, but will do nothing to sway the independent or undecided voter). It also doesn’t help that the main thing I’m getting from the Democrats during the virus is just endless lockdowns and frivolous spending (especially in the relief bill Nancy Pelosi proposed).

Both Jello Biafra and Bill Maher have covered this, actually. Think it was Social Security or the New Deal, whatever politican was behind that. "I love this idea, I want this to pass, now get out there and force me to do it."

Basically, the left uses fake pressure and astroturfing to create a false sense of urgency to give their leadership cover when doing things. So yeah, it's top down, but they still rely heavily on selective reaction to pressure from the base, both real and fake.

That's quite okay, I think. Seeing a widely spread account *from their side* focusing less on the people and more on the policies is going to help break the echo chambers. Once people can think for themselves again the vitriol will largely fall away.
