Setting aside the stereotype of the college girl who says she's bi because she kissed a girl once but only dates guys, there are some in the LGBT circle who insist that bisexuality isn't even a thing, or that bis who end up with an opposite-sex partner are traitors to the LGBT cause. I think it's his attempt to deflect this criticism by saying "no no, I'm one of you, I may be a true and honest woman in a heterosexual relationship but I really am queer!"
