Because it literally took the progressive movement to end that practice. Child labor was cheaper and they could fit into small places. Business would have continued to use them without government intervention.
That's not even true, child labor was only a thing because they would otherwise starve and die if they didn't work. It wasn't fun, it wasn't easy, and it certainly wasn't cheap and the only reason children ever worked was so they could continue to exist.

You need government to reign in billionaires. This isn't necessarily a left or right issue. It was primarily the right who fought against eminent domain during the 2000s. Ginsburg actually voted in favor of confiscating private property to give to the rich.

You become a millionaire with a good idea and hard work. Most billionaires arise from monopolies and exploiting the law.
So billionaires exploit the law, therefore we need government to have more power?

These people have a fetish.

I've had some people who have worn contacts and come into the office with crazy ulcers and abrasions. When asked most say that they either sleep in their contacts, too lazy to take them out, or I've had people say they havent taken their contacts out for +6 months.
Jesus I've accidentally slept in mine and woke up with irritated eyes. But people who have never taken out their contacts for months, their pain tolerance must be on another level.
WHAT THE FUCK!?

I knew a guy that mistakenly showered with his contacts in and described the process of peeling them off his eyeballs afterwards.

Glasses are fine. Yup.

And of course this will be held up as a massive smackdown because Lilly Wachowski was involved with writing the Matrix, and the left believes that anyone who comes up with something owns it forever (like that Pepe guy). Seriously, has anyone noticed how they are hardcore originalists when it comes to pop culture references? One of their favourite "memes" is a text wall arguing that using "Snowflake" as an insult means that you aren't interpreting Fight Club correctly.

Let's make the Constitution relevant in pop culture then so they stop trashing it.

Of course, glasses don't increase IQ and the "nerds have glasses hyuck" stereotype hasn't helped at all. But in terms of the frames fads I was just curious if a meme's ever been made about that. I've kinda been under the impression it was one of the first Tumblrina memes because of the thick black frames that's a common sight to see, but it's like a subconscious thing where you just first look at their hair and/or glasses and just know.

Oh holy fuck which Warchowski brother was that? Good God, I don't recall any of them ever looking that round... no, elongated in the face before they went trans.

Tribal fashions are weird. Someone I know said a couple of years back that she "couldn't wait to get the bi- cut". A one-side shaved thing I think that indicated you were bisexual. I'm thinking: 'you live with a guy, every ex- you've had is a guy. The closest you came to being "bi" is making out with another girl in a bar one time... in front of guys." She mocked me once for not understanding queer culture. I think rather I understood it too well.

I can believe the one was trans, but the other deciding he was actually a woman inside too was the first big thunkful moment for me in wondering if this really is just all a trend and nothing more. Especially since they hadn't been relevant in years before that first "I'm trans" announcement/when they made Jupiter Rising, I think.

I enjoyed Jupiter Rising. It was terrible in so many ways and I believe every single person in it now pretty much pretends it never existed as hard as they can. I should watch it again.

At this point, I expect that on the 4th of July, they will, without a hint of irony or satire, try to DMCA-strike Trump's twitter on the grounds that "He said "Have a fun Independence Day everyone!" He clearly is blatantly referencing the movie Independence Day to promote his own brand of quasi-fascist celebration, without permission! Did he think we'd be too stupid to notice? Nice TRY, Drumpfler!"

Dude I cannot even imagine.

My eyes hurt when a piece of dust gets in there. Removing a gooey membrane across the whole surface??

That reason alone is why I fucking refuse to ever use contacts; I much prefer not to poke my own eyes or remove the thing I poked my eyes with thank you very much.

Hardcore originalists my ass; they only care if you agree with them. If the director doesn't, they then tard scream and sob and try to claim shit like Hatsune Miku invented it.

And they still didn't learn to code. :story:
It’s sad but fascinating. To the Left, all these things were supposed to be there’s. The internet, Twitter, Social media itself. It was supposed to be THERES! But it’s not, and I don’t think they know how to handle it. Is this what happens when a large group of people with similar political views suddenly find that people don’t agree with them? Quietly (and sometimes not so quietly) panic?

To the Left, there vision of the future was so certain, inevitable really, that the idea of opposition was more a romantic folly than a certainty. Their opposition, what there was of it, would be pathetic yokels, too dumb to see the bright future they would bring, easily beaten. They were not supposed to be this effective, they were not supposed to win. Ever since 2016, this has been the very heart of Left-wing actions: This is not what was supposed to happen.

Their enemies are fighting and winning, and using things that were supposed to belong to the Left to do it. This is similar (almost identical really) to what happened to the 60’s era political radicals (who the modern Left shadow), finally having no choice but to come home, in intellectual tatters. The true believers will hide, trying again in another few decades, or once they see something happen that makes them think it’s their time. The fact that Socialism doesn’t work is something they don’t care about, they believe they can make it work Through sheer will. This is why they lose

Btw, on the topic of Red Pills, TV Tropes claims that the right is misusing the term:

"The term Redpilled is nowadays used by a great number of right-wing people who claim that they have woken up to how the world really is (mostly in regards to feminism or racism). Red was the colour of premarin, a pill commonly prescribed to transgender women in the 1990s. Both Wachowskis have since come out as trans women, i.e. woken up to who they really are. Quite whether this was all intentional is uncertain; in light of this, however, red pillers adopting this imagery is pretty hilarious."

Huh, this is the first time I've seen "ha I cut my dick off, checkmate alt right incels!" used unironically.

TVTropes has old and not-aging-well articles about how the Flynn Investigation and the Mueller Report are "real life" examples of "Minor Crime Reveals Major Conspiracy" and "The Streisand Effect" , these people are the most potent distillation of autism I've seen outside those who commission Sonic porn.
