Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The funny thing is I AM getting my way in my region. If anthing cadiz stoped enforcing the lockdown faster than I expected. And we are benefitting economically from it, quite a bit. So... You're wrong on all counts.

That is good but why push propaganda for places like New York and Michigan when the culture and density is quite different you are just a zealot that wants to prescribe what medication that works for you to others when its a completely different situation. That is a wreckless concept. I remember you trying to lecture me on "scientific process" yet you play games like this.

What kinda big brain logic is that? "Oh I'll just CHOOSE unemployment"‽ Even over here unemployment benefits have a "if you get caught rejecting a job you loose the benefitz"! And we're like the farthest left it gets in europe when it comes to social benefits! When even our healthcare tourism accepting ass knows you're being exceptional YOU NEED TO GO CHECK YOURSELF IN A MENTAL INSTITUTION ALREADY!

The federal benefit in the US is +$600 a week, yeah?

Even before my Unemployment benefits, I'd be making more money doing that than working. Add on the UI payment, and I'd be doing much better on unemployment -- and not have to actually work, to boot. I could be further ahead financially being on UI and get paid to shitpost on the farms and twitter all day.

Of course, the economy is grinding to a halt and inflation and a recession is going to kick in, fucking me over royally over the next ten years, but...

Doesn't Matter, Fuck You, Got Mine.

I literally spoke repeatedly in the past about how megacities should stay locked for longer than suburban areas meaning madrid and NY should lock for longer than Cadiz.

But there's a difference between a few extra weeks and until fall. Remember. The point of a lockdown is to keep the healthcare system from overloading. If there is no risk of collapse, states should've started reopening already. In the case of madrid I'm glad it's being force to take a break for a couple weeks while it reinforces. But a couple of weeks isn't 3 months, which is what NY is calling for.

Also, Michigan's issue is it didn't even have enough cases to begin with. At that point you get no benefit from locking down and you hurt yourself economically in ways that prevent a future lockdown from being possible if needed. A premature lockdow's actually worse than no lockdown at all!

I never called for one size fits all. I've repeatedly stated the opposite. But that doesn't excuse what NY and michigan are pulling.

Look we all want this shit re-opened I know you fucking spoke like its not a big deal and this is a flu like thing. But pushing early for it will just set shit back further and prolong this lockdown just chill and let the people that are working on it figure it out things like don't wear a mask and lets protest is just gonna make things worse regardless of if this is a big deal virus or just a minor flu, the people in charge seem to not care so lets just play ball and see what happens.

I have no idea how to read that futures page, so I'll have to take your word for it. Could you translate it into 'tard for me?
Click the bars under "chart" and you can see the futures prices for the selected commodity and you can use your mouse wheel to scroll back and forth in time. Pretty much everything except gold ate shit hard.

Also , to go back to the original point by Otterly or whoever it was, not all food stuffs will be treated the same. Bulk corn products might well be cheaper, but what about vegetables that rely on migrant labour to harvest? They might be in trouble.
This Sky article floats the idea that a third of crops might be failed to be harvested. archive
This one in Metro says unemployed/furloughed Brits have applied for the work, but more are still needed. archive
Harvest is months off so I don't understand what their deal is there. The problem for the UK is getting certain labor intensive produce planted. Which can be worked around by changing crops and/or delaying planting until the government pulls it's head out of it's ass and allows the migrant workers in. Not to mention the imports that could be used to make up the shortfall. There should be lots of more expensive labor-intensive vegetables available as belts tighten globally and many consumers cut down and rely on cheaper mechanically harvested veggies like peas and green beans.

There are weather events that are just as disruptive, really. Hardly anything to sound the "it's happening" klaxxon about.

St. Louis needs more contact tracers. They believe the surrounding St. Louis County should help provide them. LMAO

The city of St. Louis, when I was a kid, was over 750,000. Now the population is under 300,000. Believe you can guess why. People from the city got tired of the crime and moved out to the county. County has just under a million people.

As usual, CNN's talking shit. Certain states are in trouble because the geniuses in governor's offices put the entire state on extended house arrest. Could have been done smartly. Nope. Just a bunch of little Hitlers masturbating to their power trips. Now these bitches are whining because tax revenues are down. Should have thought of that when you were busting a nut at the thought of fucking over everyone in your state. No fucks given here. Not a penny from Washington. Eat shit, little Hitlers.

Dude. My job in the union is specifically to deal with the idiots in charge when they fuck up. I know them, and they're not the brightest, not by a long shot. I prefer to listen to the actual experts, like ISCIII, which has literally been at the forefront of rona investigations since even before they had official permit to be. I mean just look at the post up this very page when I used the "brain exmplosion" gif. They can get really fucking tardy at times dude, like really fucking tardy. I do not necessarily agree with those claiming the democrats who push lockdown are actively evil. Reason I don't necessarily agree is after having dealt with these people I think you can never discard idiocy. But the damage is there, it is provable. And the lack of efficiency from some of the lockdowns is also provable. I know how it looks when the guys in charge aren't held accountable and don't listen, spain went through that in 2012. IT GOT REAL FUCKING SCARY IN 2012. You don't want to go through what we went through in 2012, and that's exactly where this is going if your dunces in charge don't start listening! If you had lived through it you'd get what I mean. Economic depression will kill more people than corona ever could at this rate.

You talk so much shit you are full of it. Only the other reopen tards buy into your nonsense. Only difference between you and me is I am not a pretender on the internet.

That's probably a reasonable prediction for day-to-day life, but I'd expect things like airline travel (especially international, but yes, also domestic) to take longer to recover. And God help cruise lines.

Especially since some industries that leverage business travel extensively are still selling and saving hundreds of millions on travel expenses at the same time.

This is too widespread for contact tracing. Wasting money. The rules they came up with prove they don’t have a firm grasp on contagion vectors. It also doesn’t help that this bug mutates so much.

Folks, do we need to fight? Both of you have put forth the things you believe, things you believe in. Nothing to be gained by fighting. If what someone says is that irritating, then ignore what that person says or put that person on ignore. No use getting all upset here. Enough to get upset about as it is. 👍

As a bank I want to hope everyone forecloses on their properties so i can have 10's if not 100's of thousands of properties I will not be able to move right away but want to pay land and property taxes on. Yeah that is the master plan.

It depends on the type of cloth and how the mask is made. Somewhere back in the thread are some links to some studies done comparing various cloth masks. A mask with 2 layers of quilters cotton (generally 1 piece of cloth pleated) and an inner layer of flannel tests out at 79% effective against Coronavirus's vs a standard non Respirator type n95 mask's 80%. And you can machine wash the cloth one. So a well made cloth mask using the right materials is at near parity with the medical grade stuff. The problem is the better made cloth masks don't breath as easy as the thin cloth ones made from a bandana, so many people go for the one that's easier to breathe in. Completely missing the point and defeating the purpose of the endeavor.
The majority of the ones I see are a single layer of handkerchief material or jersey cotton and half of them only have them covering their chin anyway. Almost everyone who does wear it over their mouth and nose then takes it off every time they go to speak to someone. It starts to seem like a bit of a joke. It seems like

I can kind of understand that now when a lot of people only wear them because they're required, but even before they were mandatory I'd see people doing that and I was just like "You're concerned enough to wear a mask and then you're not going to even use it in a way that is remotely effective?"

I think the worst is the way a lot of people use gloves though. I see so many of my coworkers eating food wearing the same dirty gloves they've had on all day.

I'm curious to see how many people will continue to wear them after they're no longer mandatory. A lot of my coworkers did a sick out because they wanted the company to provide us with masks, but then when they did provide them they were like "man, fuck these things, they're hard to breathe in" and only wear them if a manager is around.

I swear I am trying to be friendly. And I am failing. And I am sorry. But in my defense, I tried.

I just need to point out that this message is hilarious because you basically just defined the gameplan of a "fondo buitre" (translated literally that stands for "vulture fund or holdout". Typically they go after debt, basically buying massive amounts of debt for the purpose of litigating, but here in spain many buyed a ton of vacant housing from the real estate bubble from other banks with the purpose of trying to force the state to give them outrageous compensation in exchange for old run down housing as it may become needed during a crisis when homelessness increases... So yeah. This does still happen. It's not the best idea, and many have gone into bankrupcy and their real estate wound up in the hands of the government due to rescuing them, which is why spain now has a ludicrous amount of publicly owned empty fucking buildings that are worth nothing, but they sure as shit tried it.) For the record I do not think that's what's going on in america with the lockdowns. That's another thing entirely. But... Yeah, there's people stupid enough to try it. Poe's Law's a bitch sometimes. Ain't it? And this is exactly why I say you can never discard stupidity.

I cant wait for the thread full of screenshots of people trying to scam unemployment come this summer. No one getting $800+ a week wants to return to their shitty office job, so they can and will attempt to scam their states' unemployment office. Laughs will be had. Im already starting to see the posts on reddit, "Um Im Iike really really scared of coronavirus but my boss wants me bavk at work next week. Also he was super mean about it when I asked if could keep working from home. How do I tell him no but keep my unemployment benefits?"

YOU DONT! :stress:

Do you even listen to yourself? Do you even understand what "the people in charge", as you put it, are saying?
reopen tards
According to the the proponents of long-term lockdowns we can't fully re-open until we have a vaccine/cure, which is unlikely to occur for another two years. Throughout history, countries didn't close down because there was a bad disease going around; not during the Black Death, smallpox. TB, yellow fever, malaria, etc. did countries close down until they found a cure (cures/vaccines which were not developed until the late 19th and 20th centuries). Now you want us to stay shut down indefinitely because of a nasty flu? The only beneficiary of an extended lockdown that kills our economy is China, and those aiding and abetting China, which includes most of the "people in charge".

And you know, FUCK CHINA. We need to reopen ASAP and rebuild our economy while we still have a chance.

Also Emu works at a hospital in Spain so he's seen this up close and personal. He's a better source of information than you

Who the fuck is Spain that country is irrelevant

That's fine but Disheveled Human is a faggot and should be ignored.

Look my angle is not that the virus is gonna kill everyone, I do not think that. I'm trying to get things back on track sooner rather then later so I am saying crying hasn't worked, complaining hasn't worked so just put on the fucking slave mask and don't dry hump the person standing in front of you in the check out line and things will move forward. Fighting the government isn't going to work because there is too many normies that buy into this thing and its world wide so just play the game and hopefully we can get back on track.

As if we needed more proof that Democrats/SJW/leftists want to extend lockdowns, here's a great CNN article:

The headline, bolding mine:
All states will be partially reopened by Wednesday despite at least 17 seeing coronavirus case rates rise

So right off they are telling the reader "These states are doing something. There is a clear and present danger of virus and death if they do, but despite this, they are opening anyway and risking lives."

In the article itself you get this gem:

Only 16 states' average new daily cases dropped more than 10%. Some public health experts say declining case rates should be one guide for figuring when states should relax social distancing restrictions.

The "public health experts " hyperlink just leads to a policy paper which at my quick glance simply shows the same state by state, region by region staged plan most are doing. The other just links to the Trump reopening guidelines. But to people who don't click through, it just looks like trustworthy experts are decrying these dumb state plans.

Another bit:

Experts have said it may take weeks to begin seeing the effects of more people being out and about. And public health officials warned those effects may translate to thousands more deaths across the country and a second spike of cases.

What "experts"? Which "public health officials?" Don't ask prole, just listen to our curated facts and conclusions!

They end with:
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday that some outdoor activities in places such as golf driving and shooting ranges, tennis clubs, and community gardens would be allowed to resume with certain restrictions.

The state has recorded the second-highest number of coronavirus cases with more than 148,200 infections, according to Johns Hopkins.

See? This governor is being reckless! Reopening with these horrible numbers! Of course, we're not saying that, just presenting two separate facts and allowing you to draw your own conclusion!

Which gives the unsaid call to action to go on Facebook and signal boost this to all the other Karen's, spread the word! Tell your friends! Protest this endangering of human lives! Lockdown forever!

This from a news network with a known liberal editorial bias and which routinely conflates factual reporting with opinion pieces...

President Donald Trump (R) is scheduled to tour a Ford factory on Thursday, May 21. This tour will apparently be in violation of Governor Whitmer's executive order, but she is not attempting to prevent it.

Rally on Monday to open the state in Grand Rapids draws crowd of two hundred. Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf called Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D)'s orders akin to mass arrest. (Barry County is adjacent southeast to Kent County, home of Grand Rapids)
State Senate Leader Mike Shirkey (R) spoke at the rally, too.
MLIVE said:
Among the speakers Monday was Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey. The Republican lawmaker encouraged the crowd to continue to do “precisely what you’re doing today.”
“Be ready to test and challenge government when they get it backasswards and they think they’re the ones who have the rights to give us, when really the government is to provide and protect our rights,” Shirkey said....
While Shirkey said he couldn’t talk about the lawsuit’s progress, he promised the crowd “we will prevail.”

Hair stylist Sarah Huff, of Holland, MI, reopened her salon Friday, with a limit of one customer in the waiting room at a time, and various other precautions. Holland straddles the Ottawa-Allegan border, which two counties have between them ~375,000 population, 692 cases, and 26 deaths.
Ms. Huff said she would likely comply with a cease-and-desist order.
Ms. Huff has indeed a cease-and-desist order, and is praying and consulting her lawyer on what to do now.

SHUTDOWN SHOWDOWN
Shelter-in-place order from Tuesday March 24 to Monday April 13. Friday, May 1, Friday, May 15, May 28, but May 22 for the farthest north, May 1, maybe? (archive) (executive order saved on KF) . The Republican-controlled legislature has refused to extend Governor Whitmer's emergency authority. Governor Whitmer insists her emergency orders are all still in effect (Rundown on the laws).
State attorney general Dana Nessel (D) is also leaving enforcement of the stay-at-home order to local discretion until the courts weigh in on it (archive). She has stated Governor Whitmer's orders are valid and are to be enforced (archive). The legislature is not calling for civil disobedience at this time (archive).
The legislature has filed a lawsuit against the governor (archive). Oral arguments were heard May 15 (archive). The judge's decision is pending, but will most likely be appealed either way.
State senate leader Mike Shirkey (R) is also supporting a petition drive to change the law. Such a petition would require 340,047 signatures to be collected. It would be veto-proof if approved by the legislature, and would go on the next general election ballot if denied by them (archive 1, archive 2, archive 3).
U. S. Rep Paul Mitchell (R - The Thumb) has filed a lawsuit independently against Governor Whitmer, in federal district court. Link, pdf on KF. He has also founded a committee to work on the petition recommended by Sen. Shirkey.
There have been at least nine other lawsuits against Governor Whitmer's actions during this crisis, mostly regarding the shut-down order, in various stages of progress and in various courts (summary of eight of them). However, "all deadlines applicable to the commencement of all civil and probate actions and proceedings" are suspended until the end of the states of emergency and disaster. Executive order, and thus in limbo. (archive).

Detroit-area hospitals are testing the drug's effectiveness as a preventative on first responders and health-care workers (archive). Article on results, May 8 (archive).
Elective surgeries are banned. Maybe? Who knows. If/when in effect, abortions were not included in the ban (thread).
At any rate, hospitals are resuming elective surgeries.
Up-to-date count of available hospital beds, etc. in the State (the Detroit area is "Section 2, North and South.")(government website)

Detroit field hospital, capacity 1,000, closed. Never had many more than 20 at any time. (archive, May 7).

LAW AND ORDER
All localities given more discretion to release prisoners early (archive). It was an executive order. Who knows if it's still valid?
Detroit shootings up, but most other crime down (archive - April 30); Muskegon police report crime is up (archive).
Breaking the lockdown is a misdemeanor, punishable by $1500 fines and 90 days jail time. (Still valid???) Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has stated there will not be a "ramp up" of police enforcement (archive). The attorney general has left it to local law enforcement to close businesses, as her hands are full with price-gougers and con artists (archive).
The police cannot, at present, pull drivers over simply for being out during the shutdown (archive). Multiple sherrifs from the rural north to Detroit suburbs have stated they will not be enforcing or not strictly enforcing parts or the entirety of the order (archive).

OFFICIAL DEATH TOLL

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reviews deaths and adds overlooked cases to the count three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Recovery counts are updated on Saturdays.
43 deaths were added today.

MDHHS said:
Regular reviews of death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems are conducted by MDHHS staff three times per week. As a part of this process, records that identify COVID-19 infection as a contributing factor to death are compared against all laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). If a death certificate is matched to a confirmed COVID-19 case and that record in the MDSS does not indicate the individual died, the MDSS record is updated to indicate the death and the appropriate local health department is notified. These matched deaths are then included with mortality information posted to the Michigan Coronavirus website.
