Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I have to agree with @WhimsicalTrolli . Not about Vic settling, but about feeling pessimistic about the outcome of the court case.

It's kinda sad that the overall consensus on the court case here went from: "Vic will legally destroy them all!!", to: "Well, he can still win on appeals!!", to: "Well, maybe Monica and Ron can be brought back on one or two causes of action, but Funimation and Jamie are most likely out of the case..." I used to believe Vic could get fully exonerated by the legal system and start working at dubbing studios again, but that's in the past. Now I only hope he won't have to pay all the fees for the rest of his life, on top of not getting a whole lot of con invites and jobs anymore. Now I'm honestly just hoping Vic will get to live the the remainder of his life in peace.

I don't blame one person or event for this failure of a court case, btw, I think it's a lot of factors coming together.

And, as many have already pointed out, Vic settling now would be very stupid. Almost as stupid as apologizing for things he didn't do.

Your comment reminded me of this video. You should smoke some weed fam.

It is natural that you feel fatigued because you, like many others I'm afraid, broke the gladiator arena rule: You're supposed to enjoy the spectacle and masturbate to the bloodshed and not climb down to the blood soaked sand get yourself involved

I'm not really involved in it like a gfm supporter, just watch the regular updates and forums here on the farms. Yeah at first I thought vic would get at least Ron and Monica in court, but seeing how he lost and the appeals is in developmental hell it's quite worry some that vic won't get justice. The initial dismissal hurt the case and vic shouldn't even have to appeal it since he had a slam-dunk defamation and torturous interference claims but somehow ty boomered and chump gonna chump.

I understand that Vic is a sympathetic guy that didn't deserve any of this shit, but please do understand that getting emotionally involved in this is just as pantsu and head exceptional as getting emotionally involved in Internet Bloodsports. There is a silver lining though: No matter if Vic wins or loses, we will have plenty of Julay for almost a lifetime. Be it people here or Funimation and its associated voice acting lolcows, you can't tell me that you wouldn't appreciate to see the majestic view of the Endless Pink Fields of /biz/ once more.

Don't worry about Ty, he'll win in the end, no matter if he wins the case or not. He'll be smoking his cigars and bang some hot bitches on his private yacht in Miami to the tune of "You" by Lloyd and Lil Wayne. How things will look for Vic, I don't know. I doubt he'll ever get new roles in the (American) anime dubbing scene. The damage to him has already been done and I don't see anything undoing it, whether he settles or even BTFOs the defendants in court. Maybe if Funimation gets sidelined by a competitor and depending if and how much the reputation of Harvey Weebstein and his Sacred Ointment Club is irreparably tarnished, but even then I dare not guarantee anything.

Call it a gut feeling or woman's intuition on my part or whatever you want, but I have a hunch that Nick's dirt on Funimation will be akin to Ron's hundreds of women.

Not to mention, Funimation may or may not exist in some fashion after everything is said and done. At this point I would love to see Funimation go down in flames.

If Funimatiion gets fully merged into that giant creation that bought them, then they might just settle to get out of this leaving Ron,Monica and shamu Jamie (if she gets pulled back in) to fend for themselves due to the money ;already spent plus to keep the skeletons in the closet. That is what I'm hoping for.Funi at some point will be just a name and nothing as it was before at ti's peak.
Corona Chan hurt in them in various ways as a company and it;s profits.

I'd like this but with an addendum -- while I doubt we'll see Monica and Jamie let go (but then again, they did cost their company a quarter million or more in legal fees), I do like to think that Sony will have realized they have a... issue with the Texas Clique, and come down on them like a sack of hammers. Seeing Sabat lose his leverage, seeing the local idiots suddenly stop being able to rewrite shows to shove their politics, etc etc.

Aniplex recently redid some anime's subtitles for a single episode because it shoehorned some stupid "social distancing" reference. Was that a Funimation fuckup? Cause if so, that bodes well for the future.

Edit:

It was Kaguya-sama: Love is War S2 episode 5. Looks like it's a direct Aniplex license.

Buuuut...

I imagine "ADR Production" is audio-something, i.e., the dub? I know Funimation does a lot of script editing and the like on their dubs, wonder if they might have done the subtitled translation, too?

It's Subtitled version is on Funi's site, for example.

Edit:

So wait. It's sub-only. Aniplex licensed it, but Funimation's hosting it?

So... what does an ADR do for a subtitle only release? Is "ADR Production" in this instance also referring to who localized it?

It was always going to go to appeals. If Vic had won on every count, the defendants would have filed interlocutory appeals and we'd still be sitting here waiting for the court system to grind slowly forward and give him the justice he's seeking.

Ty's boomering wouldn't have mattered if they'd been before a half-competent judge. It would have lost them Marchi, certainly, and might have risked some of the other counts, but it wouldn't have killed the suit entirely. That's all on Chupp.

It may be just me, but I think Jaimie was always gonna be a reach that he'd have needed a sympathetic judge for. Ron/Funimation should've been a slam dunk with the corroboration from KHC, that seems like appeal should still send that to trial. (if not, that's on the Texas Anti-SLAPP law which has already been amended as too broad)

Even with exoneration, I think Vic was always "done" in terms of anime voice dubbing. This has always been about 1. Clearing his name, and 2. Being able to get con bookings. (which is also why the Anti-SLAPP part is ludicrous) Proving libel/slander in the American civil system is actually exceptionally difficult, which is why outside of the tortious interference I've never really had expectations on that working out. But unrelated to this case specifically, its just really sad how bad people abuse legal "protections" for defamation and also for intellectual property well beyond what was the basic intent of such protections.

As IANAL, I don't know his odds of winning any of this stuff if it goes to trial, but its a travesty if the tortious interference thing doesn't at least get to be heard.

I don't know if I agree with you on that. Nick made some mistakes, but one mistake he's never made was underdeliver on his promises. When he says he has some juicy details, he means it and he backs it up. I mean, there's a reason why Funimation was the #1 trend on Twitter after he uploaded those audio leaks and why Vic was brought back to Kamehacon after his contract was illegally breached. Everybody was calling his bluff when he said he had something shocking about Ron and the Funimation clique. Sure enough, that something shocking turned out to be Ron's history of domestic abuse and the casting couch rumors with Sabat. KV thought (or rather, wanted people to think) that Vic did poorly at the deposition while Monica and Ron did great. That is until Nick uploaded the entire deposition videos and of course it was like a giant egg in their face.

I'm not saying everything Nick touches turns to gold, but whenever people were challenging him to deliver those receipts, he always did. By contrast, Ron has said numerous times that he has spoken to "hundreds of women" that are willing to come forward. 15 months later and not a single one has appeared. Why? Because as Nick said, "they've got nothing". So if Nick says he's got something that will cause the defendants to have an emotional breakdown, I believe him. I could be wrong on this of course, but so far, he hasn't been.

A Hero Hei video that makes zero sense from the thumbnail. And seemingly implying that anime fans will do anything to stop what they perceive as a threat. Some things just aren’t a crusade worthy of “Do You Heat The People Sing?”
Don't know why Hei gets like this. It could have simply been a joke.

Also, it's "hear".

Watching Vic's latest Unlocked and a female fan came on and she didn't want him to see her face because she was crying. She was crying because it was an honor meeting him and she always to do that. Vic cheered her up and told her he wants to meet her at a con. This man guys

Vic is the cinnamon roll of anime VAs.

Even a slam dunk case with the defense being handled by someone as comically unlikable and a laughing stock like Chieftain Wheezing Lungsack can be easily lost if the prosecution/plaintiff's attorney is handling said case the same way Sargon handled UKIP's EU-parliament elections. If this is to be blamed on Chupp or if Ty is indeed the Sargon of Weeb Wars remains to be seen in the appeals.

I'll believe it when I see it.

In the unlocked stream vic said something to effect of "there a lot of nice people in the world, the negative/sad ones just take up too much oxygen."

Vic just wants to silence his detractors, not with a SLAPP but by gassing them. 0-17.
The Italian is till a Nazi at heart.

It's like the equivalent of making numerous fan theories and expectations/wishlists on what to see as the season/movie series continues only to not get what you were wanting/hoping for because you hyped yourself up too much so you leave feeling let down.

Nick teasing us about his mole(s) in FUNimation I don't think really helps when it comes to the hype because everyone's been wondering "It's gotta be this" and are saying all sorts of things about what it could possibly be. If anything, I don't think it's Nick's fault for getting our hopes up, it's ourselves. It's possible some crazy, crazy shit has been going on in FUNimation for years that are just now coming to light, but it's also possible (more like highly likely) that the hypocrisy has just always been there it just wasn't ever something as big and damning like having BDSM toga parties with hookers jumping out of cakes (for example).

I think his biggest tease has always been the secret of who "C" is. As much as I would like him to spill the tea about FUNimation, at this point, I'm just waiting to see who "C" is. There's been plenty of contenders and I'm sure we could definitely make a list of the theoretical suspects, but none of them might actually be the mole. We won't know until that day comes, whenever that will be, and it's best to not hold one's breath over it.
