I speculate that the reason tumblr girls gravitate so heavily towards clowns is because they're stigmatized by most Westerners (coulrophobia) and to them stigmatized = good (also because they're extremely colorful). That's also why they're obsessed with the words "rat", eye-searing blog themes, and fighting "cringe culture"; because they operate on the idea that if the normies hate something, that thing is not just good, it's also a "niche" interest for them to show how special they are. They think they're being subversive with this aesthetic but these girls are a dime a dozen, you can identify them by their use of the words "himbo", "bastard", "feral", and fixations on "ugly" things like clowns, rats, monsters, etc and you will find them literally all over tumblr/Twitter.

What makes it extra insulting is that 17-year-old Narancia is canonically a school dropout (although he's once stated that he's planned on returning to school and earning his diploma after the Big Bad is defeated, which didn't... quite pan out in his favor.)

And there's the fact that Black American students, among other certain races, have a higher rate of high school dropouts than White and Asian students. Not to mention that they face more significant barriers to education. Put all of these together with unnecessary blackwashing, and you end up with a pretty insulting portrait of what's supposed to be an uplifting piece of a young adult who finally graduates high school with a diploma in his hands and a smile on his face.
