Academics aren't very smart. Getting a degree in a social science is largely about parroting talking points and cooking data, not actual critical thinking.
Katherine Gibson, the most accomplished of them, is nothing more than a radical communist whose works involve an exclusive focus on gender theory and "post-capitalism." Even the titles are so full of jargon terms you can judge their truth content with a glance. Not to mention she's a billion years old. Boomer "feminist" moms in Australia hate videogames and have succeeded in getting pretty strong restrictions on them in the nation. It's no wonder she doesn't know who Nintendo is.

Azula isn't the main villain though--it's Firelord Ozai. And for all her "girl power" strength and skill, Azula is ultimately a broken, piteous character that is completely shut the fuck down at the end of the series in the most humiliating and degrading way possible. And the only reason why she wasn't defeated by her brother over Katara was because she chose to play dirty. Otherwise, Zuko was doing just fine completely exhausting her during the Agni Kai, demonstrating his growth and strength over her instability and deterioration.

One could even argue that it's Azula's lack of girlishness and understanding of maternal warmth ultimately caused her to become a cold, socially-inept person with key skills in fear and manipulation, but no real ability to connect to others or properly maintain her insecurities. The lack of a mother figure through Ursa's neglect and absence contributes to a huge chunk of her issues later on down the line.
