Fanmade Pokémon Designs (Fakemon) - Tracers, garbage designers, and of course, furries

Speaking of Eevee evolutions, I think I remember reading an article about the guy who designs/creates the Eevee lines (sadly I can't seem to find it anywhere now) stating that he prefers to have the Eeveelutions mesh naturally with their elements. As an example, he said a flying type Eeveelution wouldn't just be an Eevee with bird wings stuck on. This seems to be something a lot of fakemon creators seem to not do, as most of the fake Eeveelutions seem to be 'Eevee with something or other slapped on'. Leafeon does have plants in its design, but they are actually a true part of it (ear tips, the tail etc), same with Sylveon and the weird flesh ribbons.

I'm gonna try to make my own Eeveelution for the fun of it, so here's Stateon (named after stratocumulus clouds).

Maybe in order to evolve it, you need to use Fly at a specific location?

Yeah, even Flareon and Glaceon dont have any fire or ice on them despite the type. Almost every Flying/Bug/dragon eeveelution i see gives them wings when it shouldnt.

The idea is good but the problem is that Flying, as a pokemon type, isnt really about WIND but about birds (castform is a cloud and is normal), meaning you need beaks and wings to actually use 90% of it's moves. Realistically speaking, Strateon would only learn Fly, defog and maybe sky drop. I'd say it cant even learn gust or hurricane because it lacks the wings, fans, lung capacity or sheer power (tornadus) to produce wind from nowhere.

"Bizarre" as it sounds, a flying eeveelution would very likely have feathers on it's head, paws and a fan-like feather tail instead of clouds or wings.

You know? I can see where you're getting at, since most Flying-type moves are bird-based. And that idea you made up sounds pretty interesting!

The pokédex is replete with mons that casually benchpress topographical features, out-think computers, out-run bullet trains, or simply exist at a static temperature hot enough to spontaneously combust their surroundings. If a flying evolution for Eevee needs to blow real hard for wind-themed Flying special attack moves, all it takes is a pokédex entry saying it 'has special multi-chambered lungs to breath better while it's running high in the sky on clouds' or something to handwave it. It's all in fun.

Yeah, gen 5 feels about when the number of new shitmons started to outnumber the good concepts.

That's a huge stretch tho. Absurd as it sounds, pokemon is consistent about these things because they care about gameplay, so it's serious business for them.

Landorus and Thundorus are flying types based on gods and they only have 1-2 weak flying attacks. Rayquaza is a sky god and cant learn Hurricane nor Brave Bird so they had to give him an exlusive move called "Dragon Ascent" that is flying instead of dragon. Emolga is a flying squirrel with "wings" and cant do gust either.

What i mean is, if flying evie can blow winds because "big lungs" then you your design HAS to show that, you cant just say it on pokedex. You will also be breaking rules because afaik no other pokemon blows wind from their mouths thanks to lungs. Even Exploud who has a big mouth and actual wind pipes only uses those sound attacks and learns no flying moves.

Sorry if i sound pedantic as fuck but this is too important to simply ignore. AFAIK The only pokemon that produces wind by blowing is drifloon who is literally a baloon. Even Finneon who has no business learning GUST, still does because the joke is that it's a butterfly fish with butterfly wings as fins. There is a lot of effort put to balance art and gameplay design that 99% fanartists miss or ignore.

This is starting to veer into arts and crafts territory very fast rather than a community watch. I feel like we need more shit flinging documentation.

From a quick google search, it seems like there are some historical moments to discover within the fandom. For example, this thread on reddit talking about pokecommunity (large romhacking community with it), and how a bunch of people left upon discovering the owner was a sex offender while others stayed as they felt 30+ years is a long enough time to change. (I havent done any digging myself on the matter)

I don't mind laughing and redrawing Pokenon designs, but the thread would be moved to either Games or Arts and Lit. If we want to keep the thread here, we need to find more people chimping out at each other.

I see it in the same vein as "SJW Art and Other Extremes" thread being able to exist here.
But, I do recall someone being caught "borrowing" a design from someone else, and made a suspiciously new account to rant about how horrible it is for him to be reminded to ask permission or credit someone for their work.
