But did he really ever get into anything on a hobbyist level within anime? It seems like he was just kind of a generalized guy and I feel like he could have found his identity in a niche. And I know he has actual interests within weebshit because he'd talk about it on stream in the past. If he made a series on videos on something he really liked as obsessively as he did Sword Art Online he could have found a fandom to really be in and start making more money and getting attention. He wanted to be this all-purpose talks about everything anime guy and it hasn't worked out for him.
Why put that much effort into something when what you're addicted to is mostly just the feeling of being "part of the community" more than the actual hobby itself? If he really just liked anime itself more than the attention from talking about it to a very specific audience, he wouldn't have even necessarily made videos about it at all as opposed to just watching as much of it as he could.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess what ends up characterizing Digi is the fact that he can't see the writing on the wall at any point. He's continuously faced with a number of options and without fail he tends to choose the one that self-sabotages. Which makes me think he probably likes the vitriol he gets and he doesn't mind if this trans thing doesn't pan out because he'll have gotten the attention he wanted. If it works out he'll be in a 'new' community and he can start trying to feel part of two communities, one of which has been conditioned into being forced to accept him regardless of anything about his character.

I think Digi likes losing.

I think he actively self sabotages.

It's funny that Digi says he needed to make his gay little pop psychology Myers Briggs fanfiction to "realize" he was trans when people in this thread figured it out years ago. I guess this thread understands him better than he understands himself, no wonder it makes him so mad!

It's weird, it seems like mainly tech people become troons and Digibro looks and sounds like the kind of guy to tell me to install Gentoo. But digi never got into that stuff. He never got into anything. He's been so fixated on anime shit for years and I just have to wonder how he didn't burn out on it or develop other interests. He doesn't have to keep doing these bizarre identity transformations; he could have gone into a ton of fields and carved out a new niche. Why was staying an anime youtuber of all things so important?

I guess the rapping counts but I'm not sure how genuine that is.
In fairness to the anime focus, it’s a large enough sphere to talk about for a long time. Especially if you also bring in manga. Kind of like how people teach film history, only much more focused on a specific genre.
But as for everything else, it’s straight autism. If Digi discovered that he liked tech instead of anime, he would be a tech guy. Or a train guy, or a gun guy, or any other flavor of autismo you would find running around online.

Conrad has no real identity, just hops from trend to trend looking for fulfillment because deep down he hates himself

I love how Digibro spent years entrenching himself, telling us all he was living life his own way and wouldn't live it on other peoples terms. How he was his own man and wanted to do his own thing. But it's just like you said, he fucking hates himself. He needs fulfillment and he probably can't find it despite the fact that he's living the life he tells us all he wants to have. A fundamentally happy person doesn't go troon at 30 after years of rocking a scraggly Stallman beard.

It's been two days since the Entroonening and Digi is already acting more annoying than usual.

And troons wonder why everyone hates them.
I checked his Twitter and he's monitoring the thread so uhhh hi Digi.
I'm probably late to posting this but they pretty much admit they're addicted to the attention they're getting.

I've been a Digi subscriber for about 4 years and an occasional patron (I got a few rants). It feels like a lot longer, perhaps because I've watched through his massive catalog of videos that detail many changes in his life. I'll always respect him for creating great videos like The Great Anime Director Who Time Forgot, Akiyuki Shinbo in the 90s, The (De-)Evolution of Tsundere, Makoto Shinkai: A Genius Hack, The Difficulties of Being Right About Anime, Prolific Over Perfect, and The Last High School Anime, his Evangelion videos, Insomnia Analysis, and so on. For a long time I related to him as a likable guy that shared his life on his After Dark channel, and even an aspirational figure in some respects. He was basically an anime superfan who turned his autism into a decent-paying career by working constantly and putting out more videos than anyone else.

About 6 months ago any quality anime content he uploaded started being outnumbered by his light novel, politics, conspiracies, the autism chart, the neurotyping chart, and other stuff that doesn't appeal to me or that I think is straight-up stupid. Since I'm a guy, Digi deciding she's a woman has made her less relatable and aspirational to me. If she's happier with her content now and happier with her identity now, then she'll be fine losing fans like me. That's how Digi has always operated: burning off fans reputation and money to do what she wants. And it only makes sense to put your own wellbeing above making your life's narrative relatable or aspirational to the same people who have been following her for years.

Regardless of what happens with Digi's gender and persona, I just hope when I check back on her channel in a month there's at least some good anime/manga content in any form. Or even some more good vlogs. I don't relate to neuro-typing or autism levels, it's masturbatory navel-gazing baloney. I don't want to hear Don Jolly or Ash Vampire join Digi in relishing the miserable state of the world. It's sickening how much they enjoy indulging in their most cynical and lazy instincts.

As for the Tenleid drama, I think it used to make more sense. Digi and Mother's Basement once occupied the same niche (popular anime YouTube), but took opposite approaches. Geoff was the arch-sellout who even gets money from his girlfriend selling nudes, while Digi was the artist who did anything he felt was good regardless of the career consequences. At this point Geoff is still an anime YouTuber and Digi is an e-celeb that sometimes makes anime videos. Geoff lives off Youtube and Digi lives off Patreon. The beef doesn't really make sense anymore, but it seems like May (and maybe Tenleid too) are seriously personally invested in it. It just comes across as petty artificial drama. Hopefully it just continues to come up in occasionally spats and doesn't become yet another thing distracting Digi from exercising his talent for writing about anime.

Let's place our bets on what direction the Troon Saga will take. Here are your options:

1) Digi makes a full attempt to transition into a woman, including (but not limited to):
  • Hormone therapy.
  • Sex reassignment surgery.
  • Facial feminization surgery.
  • Voice lessons.
  • A decent haircut and learning what conditioner is.
  • Losing weight to fix his premature dad bod.
  • Laser hair removal.
  • Learning to apply makeup.
  • Changing his mannerisms to better fit into society's preconceptions of what a woman is.
  • Actually learning to dress sensibly for once in his life so onlookers in the street don't mistake him for a hobo in a frilly skirt.
2) May becomes Digi's full-time makeup/nail artist. He swaps out his pajama pants for a miniskirt and stockings, but otherwise, dresses much the same. Onlookers in the street mistake him for a hobo in a frilly skirt. Occasionally, a polite store clerk at the groceries asks him whether he has a child on the way, mistaking his beer belly for pregnancy. Over the years, he acquires the moniker "Troon of Virginia Beach."

3) He realizes this was all just a mid-life crisis and reverts back to Digibro in 3 months time.

He gets really fat, doesn't make any real effort to transition, remains a smelly, gross pedo, and either does or doesn't abandon the troon shit. Either way, he remains a ridiculous lolcow.

There's absolutely no way this isn't it. Digi is too stubborn to change drastically and the massive amounts of positive attention he's getting compound that. The man is a slob and is deadset on being a slob and that's not going to suddenly change because he did this.

If he starts pumping out rapid fire Digibro After Dark vlogs about being trans it will totally kill his chanel and bleed him patreon subs.

Digibro has always had a huge ego and I think that if he gets too much positive attention he'll become completely insufferable which will no doubt make him go on crusades and make more videos that are entirely mastubatory like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JH7kvLi8OVs

You're right, and I can see a certain kind of self-implosion coming a mile away if a bunch of leftists or other types start watching digibro specifically because they heard he was trans and then immediately hit upon the loli shit. Digibro has somehow been kind of resistant to being cannibalized by that, but then I wonder how far Digi is willing to betray and abandon his own morals. Like at that point, if he's willing to change his identity so drastically (he probably isn't), is he willing to try and distance himself from the awful things he knowingly embraced?

There was a time just before he began dating May where Digi hinted at some sympathies for feminism and left-wing politics. He noticeably changed his tune (or at least, stopped touching upon these topics) as soon as his relationship began with her.
