Inactive Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka - Deadbeat (emphasis on "Dead") founder of Something Awful, forced out of his own community, on his second divorce, stuck his dick in crazy, "Birth Giver"

Yesh there's no salvaging SA, not in todays climate and not with the drunk at the helm. You all saw that "hilarious" diablo article thing they shat out on the front page. SA humor used to be of the take-no-prisoners variety where anyone and everyone were fair game. Nowadays the state of the forums reflect this with every attempt at comedy being some variation of random access humor peppered with wishes for physical harm towards the ever-expanding definition of bigots.

The remaining goons and troons on the forums will always excuse the diminishing quality of humor the same way people who defend the star wars prequels do. Either by claiming that you were younger, ergo your tastes weren't matured or by claiming that all the stuff you liked was actually garbage but you didn't notice 'cause you're blinded by nostalgia.

All of this is pure deflection because SA is no longer a comedy forum, it's a bunch of pissy failures tossing zingers at each other as a substitute for a functioning sense of humor and banning anyone who disagrees.

Incorrect. Its still a comedy forum, just now all the comedy is unintentional.

There is nothing left to save at SA.
Yup. The last parts of the site worth anything towards future $ potential, or prestige/clout-wise, were either heavily damaged, by deleting years old, now-'problematic', edgelord humor articles, posts and accounts, or by outright nuking FYAD, which was his only remaining credible means towards relevancy, or a big $core, again, whether you love it or hate it, imho. Why he'd wipe it outta existence, with no backup, I can't fathom... Well, outside of the obvious childishly impulsive and lazy "troons stop crying, screaming and raping pls" huddle-in-the-shower move it was

Looks like the goons got Richard in trouble again.

Something Awful feels like the rotting, undead remnant of an the earlier era of the internet. The more "independent, pre-social media" internet. Like discovering that your old friend has become infected into a shambling monstrosity composed of pure id, SA too is attached to so many memories yet is already long past the point where it should have been humanely put down. It's sad to see it go, but even sadder that it had needed to go at all. This new era of the internet, after everything converged onto the same restrictive content sites, is not as fun as personal as it used to be and younger people will never really experience anything like that chaotic age.

There's nothing to save at SA. It serves no purpose. It's even more restrictive than social media these days. There's no comedy. There's no reason to go there. Even facebook is a better platform for open discussion.

Face it, the old independent internet is over. Welcome to the era of reddit. I used to say, "the internet sucks these days but at least I can go outside," but now in coronaworld even that isn't true. I'm stoned and sad that everything I used to like is shit and even the internet has become stale and contains no further wonders.

SA would have absolutely mocked a weirdo political site making unfunny image macros with Diablo screen grabs and that would have been in the Bush era no less. Clown world is endless and I'm glad to be here.

SA forums could've been reddit. The staying power of the forums to this day, in absolute spite of the drug-fueled incompetence of their petty tyrant dickhead leader, is testament to the seed of what it could've been. But Lowtax didn't invest in a quality coder at any point in the forum's history, and he seems to be impervious to innovation to the extent that he hasn't even figured out (like Blizzard did) that if you can't create new features out of the blue, just *ape them or steal them from more successful ventures than your own.*

Lowtax's current hiring criteria for bringing in consultants for some innovation seem limited to 'can you put out', and 'can you wreck the fuck out of my home', none of which are actually helpful.

Lowtax has always been a cringy, narcissistic retarded buffoon of a manlet. I remember watching some of his stuff (Doom House) as an adult cringing at the fact that I used to think this was hilarious. I'll cut myself some slack, though, I was 14 years old or something at the time, I was a wee tot. Lowtax was a laughably pathetic and lazy internet forum person. How Lowtax bumbled into owner one of the most popular and "elite" communities online, I'll never really understand, but the guy was always sitting on a goldmine but he was simply too retarded and egotistical to do anything about it. Instead it he ran it like he was in a teenage clique. He was trying to win approval to his fat fuck boyfriend El Estomago Grande and that Zach Parsons guy, and all the other top tier people on the forums. Except if you ever upstaged Lowtax you were quick to be removed, like the legendary bigpeeler. And through EPG and his equally fat fuck girlfriend, it got all political as EPG wanted equally woke moderators... that's how SA got so SJW, it was through EPG, who was a social justice warrior before the term ever existed.

Lowtax is a combination of a nerd, Donald Trump, and Adam Sandler

I never noticed just how politically charged the forums were until D&D was deleted and the crazies spread like fungal disease across all the boards. Even today if you check out the latest FYAD offsite, there are words they won't allow.

There was a shift within the Games forum over time, but it happened comparatively gradually. I think a big turning point was when the Minority Views On Gaming thread came into existence though; rather than being a place to discuss representation, bigotry and so on within the gaming industry, it rapidly turned into a safe space where the trannies howled and shat about white people.

It seemed to escalate from there as the mods proved themselves spineless.
