Because Ghostbusters was explicitly woke. Wonder Woman wasn't.
IIRC didn't all the woke shit originate from Feig when the first trailer dropped and flopped? I recall RLM placing the problems with the movie almost entirely on Feig as well as he basically just had all the actors ad lib and improv the entire script. Point is, this whole thing was a mess, Feig was probably the main culprit, and he absolutely knows it and is deflecting.

Yeah, but the movie itself had a bunch of cringy shit in it anyway.

Ever been so fucking assmad 4 years after losing an election that you go on live TV and ask China to hack our elections on behalf of the DNC, while also hacking the IRS so the left can get Trump's tax forms?

Hillary Clinton: TDS Lifetime Achievement Award.
Hillary's terrible at humor. When Trump did it, you could tell he was joking. When Hillary does it, you can tell she thinks she's saying some codeword to kick off some top secret glow in the dark op.

This reminds me of an old saying I heard during the Obama years.

If you don't want your freedoms taken away, don't be so quick to take them from others.

Consequently if the press doesn't want to be censored (by people outside the Democratic Party), maybe they shouldn't be so quick to call for it.

I will never understand why people choose the Ghostbusters reboot as their hill to die on in culture wars. Especially after Wonder Woman made it big with audiences and critics the following year, proving nothing was wrong with having female leads.

Because they don't want to win the war, they just want to fight it. If they admitted they've won they'd have to stop fighting.

Orange Man made Ghostbusters 2016 flop!

4 years later and this hack still can't accept that his movie just fucking sucked.

It was a decidedly mediocre movie, but it did get a lot more hate and mockery than it normally would have due to the politics of the time. Mostly because people behind the movie treated it as a political statement to do a female Ghostbusters movie, tying it into feminism (even as Paul Feig is doing here) and Hillary/Trump.

It has to feel deranged to the people behind the movie that it got so much backlash since they weren't used to people on the right wanting to counter this bullshit and mock them mercilessly over it. Which is why you get people bringing up gamergate occasionally even when talking about Fembusters, since that was another major instance of people countering and mocking the mainstream media narrative, which still baffles people on the left.

Also have the whole issue Todd Phillips pointed out
Go try to be funny nowadays with this woke culture, There were articles written about why comedies don’t work anymore — I’ll tell you why, because all the fucking funny guys are like, ‘Fuck this shit, because I don’t want to offend you.’

It's harder to do comedies these days because of woke culture and Fembusters was a giant example of this woke friendly comedy at work, which fell flat on its face. It has to be confusing as hell for people as blind as Feig.

The signs of it being a shitshow were appearing long before the movie was released. Remember when the actresses went to some children's hospital before they'd even released a teaser trailer?

It's one thing to do this after the movie has come out and kids are either excited or meh about it, but going when nobody has any idea of who the fuck you are is just bizarre. If RDJ had wandered into a kid's hospital dressed like Tony Stark/Ironman in 2006, the kids probably would've been equally confused.

It wasn't just that it was woke. It was just badly done. The two are related, of course, since woke idiots are diametrically opposed to meritocracy, but in theory you could do a politically left leaning movie while also being a good film. Hollywood was lefty propaganda for nearly a century, so clearly it's... possible?

Red Letter Media did a review of it and pointed out just how much innane babbling is in the movie, showing the stars around the Hearse constantly just gibbering.

"Stop talking. Stop Talking. STOP TALKING!"

It's apparently because they just sat the stars in front of a camera and told them to ad lib a lot of it. RLM theorized that there was some exec / director / etc insisting they keep talking, because "if you ain't talkin' the audience ain't laughin" or somesuch.

He edited one of the clips down to remove some of the babble and it was an infinitely better experience.

Yeah, this is 1984-tier "war is peace" shit.... as long as a war is on, you can justify shitty rations, shitty prole housing, shitty entertainment options, shitty everything since "we have to make sacrifices to win" , but the instant it's over, people will want those freedoms back. The idea is to continue the war for so long that nobody remembers it even has a "win" condition and the constant state of war economy and war censorship becomes the norm so that one eventually stops asking questions and accepts.

As long as the gender/culture war is on, you can make shitty movies, hire shitty directors, treat the fans like shit, and still expect to have a profitable box office because "You HAVE to go see this, or the wrong side of history wins" The instant the culture war ends, the free publicity for your "brave and stunning first all-X movie!" ends and you'll have to actually produce product customers want instead of guilt tripping them into going to the Party-approved 2-hour-hate session less they be labeled as not-real-progressives and sent to the gulag.

Personally, I think the problem with Fembusters is that it suffered from an identity crisis. It was pitched as a modern-day comedy, shot as an arthouse-project feminist-empowerment flick, and then marketed as a political statement.... it's goals and target audience kept changing over time so that it eventually alienated everyone instead , the fact it was yet another rehash/reboot did it no favors.

This also accurately describes why there is such a lack of talent in the Democratic Party. After about three generations of rejecting meritocracy there are no longer enough older competent people nor are they producing enough young ones.

Somebody get this dude a fainting couch, quick.

Not only can the left not meme, they also can't even identify common, widespread memes.

Okay, hear me out.

Starship Troopers.

The 1990's Starship Troopers was Paul Verhooven literally shitting on Heinlein's work and raping the source material with his anti-militaristic worldview, but it was still an enjoyable film. It was still humorous and action packed and silly.
It was still a quotable film. Almost thirty years later its still a meme-able film.
Now this might be the exception to the rule, but you can inject lefty garbage into a film and still have it be a good film.

(The twisted irony is how much aspects of the 'fascist' Terran Federation in that film could be applied to today's left, including the constant media indoctrination, the idea that the Federation can never be wrong, only individuals in charge, the whole "Im doing my part!")

Here's the vid for posterity

The terribly ironic thing is that for being media firefighters, they are completely awful at firefighting techniques.

The original meme was posted on Friday. It was almost completely burned out by today. But then he goes busting through the wall like Kool-Aid Man and now it's got oxygen again thanks to the backdraft. I hope he brought another SCBA bottle cause he's gonna be here a while now.

Leftist anti-war movies were the original "can't meme"

They either present such an over-the-top version of the military complex that it becomes unintended comedy or, they make it look cool and glamorous by focusing on the explosions and bombs and guns and tanks and utter waste laid on the enemy like a vengeful God come-to-life.

Unless you read the tabloids, you'd be hard-pressed to know Starship Troopers was supposed to be anti-war, and a few buddies I have who did time in the Army still think the "How can you push a button when your hand is immobilized?!" scene is hilarious satire or brutal honesty. They see it not as a stunning indictment of the inherent cruelty of the military, but exactly what should happen to mouthy recruits in basic.... and does, with a little more subtlety.... or how the original film version of M*A*S*H was supposed to be an anti-war film, but instead birthed one of the longest-running TV comedies in American history that remains a 70's and 80's cultural touchstone to this day. Whereas, pick any War on Terror film at random and people are much more likely to watch it and root for the spec ops Sniper to cleanly pop insurgent heads at 1000 yards than to question the morality of American interventionism, because insane displays of marksmanship give guys stiffies, and like a porno, they'll ignore the plot entirely just to enjoy the "good parts".

Ironically, only righty war films, which conventional wisdom says are jingoistic pro-war propaganda, seem to ever stop and consider what happens to the men who fight when they get home after all of that, at least with any gravitas... The left is incapable of looking at the shell-shocked senior sympathetically enough to humanize them. To them, they brought their nighmares and PTSD upon themselves for signing up to kill babies.

At worst, you get the kind that totally breaks down and becomes abusive drunk or a serial killer. At best, the character is just used as a throwaway prop to move the plot along (Yeah, he lost his legs/mind overseas, tragic, or so I've been told..... but, don't focus on HIM, focus on the ones to blame for that! The ones we're demonizing!)

You aren't 100% wrong - but I'd much rather see RDJ than some fucking washed up SNL actresses and Ironman (even pre MCU) was a much bigger deal than the Ghostbusters ever were.

These actresses weren't really famous enough to be doing this.

Out of fairness the only reason you'd rather see RDJ than some washed up SNL actresses is because of Iron Man's success. Before Iron Man resurrected his career he was pretty much a nobody on par with them who'd crashed and burned. (And he seems to be steadily wandering back into that area now that he's bid adieu to the role.) You could say the kids would love it if he went in the suit, but... pretty sure most of the suits just outright didn't exist, he would have shown up wearing like part of a chestpiece and a mocap suit.

I mean no one's wrong to say the stunt was stupid and forced and annoying and the kids clearly got nothing from it, just also saying RDJ was a "Who the fuck is that?" nobody too before Iron Man.

It's amazing we ever get something as complex as The Pacific from Hollywood. And I'm not sure they could create something like that today.
