U.S. Riots of May 2020 over George Floyd and others - ITT: a bunch of faggots butthurt about worthless internet stickers

Due to the intense sperging in this thread, I think the point about whether or not the cops were following standard procedure has been forgotten. If they are indeed trained to kneel on the neck of someone prone and in handcuffs, that is a separate issue from this particular cop not following that procedure properly.

Personally, I think that restraining someone by the neck as a matter of course is asking for trouble given how easy it is to seriously injure or kill someone by doing that; suffocation, spinal column injury, or compressing the arteries carrying blood to the brain (this last one is what puts people to sleep when they're choked, not lack of air). That being said, it's hard to imagine a way of restraining someone who really doesn't want to be restrained without injuring them.

If I said i was an officer would you roll over onto you back into a submissive pose like the bootlicker you are?
You're tilting at windmills. I have no love of police. But if you think the hill to die on is acting like a cunt to glorified janitors with guns, you really haven't thought things out. Be polite and friendly as possible. Then either file a complaint, or if charged, win in a courtroom. Being a cunt back to them doesn't forward your own agenda at all, unless your agenda is to look like a belligerent asshole that they can then paint as deserving rough treatment for being non-compliant in a courtroom. This should be utterly uncontentious, but this thread is in full exceptional mode, so here we are!

Regarding your homo fixation, no thanks. Try your local bathhouse or whatever.

Does anyone remember that guy who was swatted, shot in the back while laying down? Totally had it coming for resisting arrests and spooking our brave officers.

Did you do that after you got manhandled by them and then virgin walked away without causing any trouble? Lol fucking spineless.

Remember the onus of innocence is on you to prove, guilty until otherwise. Just submit like a good dog, make no problems and carry on citizen.

Go fight the police then if you aren't a bootlicker, go shoot at the nearest officer and see where that gets you

It's the incoherent ramblings like this that makes the "support the rule of law but hold cops accountable" middle ground so unattractive for so many people and actively entrenches people behind corrupt law enforcement out of fear of being associated with raving lunatics.

You're not serving your position and you need to realize the third position here is best -- support the agents of the state when they're acting in the interest of citizens. Prosecute them when they don't.

The mistake our society makes on both sides of the argument is putting law enforcement on a pedestal.

Was looking up about police restraint and pinning techniques earlier. This article quoting the 'Association of Chief Police Officers' organisation from 2012 indicated that there are currently no prohibited pinning techniques for police officers, although seeing as this guy died in their custody while they were pinning him these officers will probably have a hard time demonstrating they used "proportionate force to defend themselves or effect an arrest."
This quote seemed rather disgusting bordering on nonsensical, basically "Oops, am I killing you? Well I'm not a doctor so that's outside my purview, I'm just here to ensure safety."
"Foremost in officers' minds is the safe resolution to volatile situations, not a medical diagnosis."
According to this article from 2016 police are instructed to pin people by the neck, although the pressure point indicated is just below the ear and right behind the jaw hinge, not directly compressing the jugular vein. It does state that these techniques should not be applied to 'passive resisters' and should only be used momentarily to direct compliance, not used in perpetuity with no direction given for it's application or what compliance the officer will release the hold for and seeing as the guy was dead for half of it I would definitely consider that a 'passive resister'.

It seemed to me that this officer just wanted to apply as much pain for as long as he could, and in the video while the guy was dead under his knee he pulled a weapon and was ready to attack any citizen that tried to stop him.

Once, I was charged (and found not guilty). Once, I filed a complaint (they had the wrong address but the complaint still went nowhere). Once I really didn't care that much about anything to even consider it a big deal (I had a lot happening in life and overzealous cops didn't even rate.)

But hell, by all means, if you feel like being belligerent to a group of armed men with unknown character and limited accountability, feel free. I'd rather fight the battle in a courtroom or via police oversight.

Edit for fucking up quote

I would wager since cops get to enjoy such powers as carrying weapons, more weight of their testimony in court, able to run background checks on anyone (may not be allowed to be done but we have seen constant cases of this), use of high power firearms and surveillance equipment, extra level punishment if you attack one, etc it is absolutely crucial that the citizens watch them like a hawk to make sure they are kept in check.

I actually have no problem with cops usually. The couple times I ran into them, I was courteous and polite and in turn was treated the same.

However in these cases when they cause a death due to incompetence or malice they need to be held accountable for it. How many times have we see them cause a death, get a slap on the wrist and then business as usual? To many times.

They had 4 people and nonlethal options on hand and they couldn't keep one guy alive all for the crime of forgery at a local grocery store? That is insane.

A cop can make a citizen's life a total, yet legal, hell. They need to be reminded that they are out numbered and it's only on the will of the public do we allow them the powers they have.

Once, I was charged (and found not guilty). Once, I filed a complaint (they had the wrong address but the complaint still went nowhere).

So they couldn't do their research right, manhandled you even though you did nothing wrong, your compliant went no where and this whole time you just sat their and took like a bitch?

Lol

You only make yourself and the cops look worse and worse

Like, I don't even care as much about the legal/moral aspect (I do but) so much as where my money is going. Fuck it, disarm the police, I'll buy a gun and shoot the motherfucker myself and call y'all to clean up. Shit, I had situations where I could've ordered a pizza and had better service than my police (actual serious situations where they had a warrant out on the guy). Fuck it, I just wanna arm pizza guys. At least if they don't come quickly enough, I get a free pizza.
If you were to live in Baltimore circa 1890, it was common for citizens to sweep out the ghettos. Mobs would just go in and destroy entire neighborhoods for any kind of perceived problem.

The city was a major port and shipbuilder, you had one of the strongest multicultural societies on Earth, that's where the accent comes from. Large groups of immigrants from all over the world would set up shop and there were times their customs strayed too far from the norm to be accepted by the rest of society. Unlike other areas in the mid-Atlantic - there was comparatively little racial strife. A big part of the reason was there was a continuous labor shortage, employers needed people all the time and the lack of competition for jobs created a kind of harmony between groups.

So if you were going to get your head kicked in, it was because you were making it hard for people to do business. No one gave a shit what you looked like or even what language you spoke, you were needed and others were grateful because it meant they could do more business.

Around the 1960s, the EPA made it impossible for companies to do business in Baltimore. There was so much pollution after 100+ years of shipbuilding, no one wanted to become the owner of the land because that meant they were on the hook for cleaning it up. In the 1970s, most major maritime business left the city, in the 1980s there were crack wars, in the 1990s there was globalization, in the 2000s there was a big push for tourism, and the 2010s have brought the city to where it is now.

All this is to say - Baltimore's traditional enemy has never been racism, it's been regulation, globalization, drugs and radicalization. Potent mix. I suspect the same is true for Minneapolis, I've had to do some deep dives on the economy in relation to PPE. Seems like we had these great cities we've let go to waste and the touchpoints - almost always - have underlying issues about job scarcity.

The latest victim of police brutality was accused of trying to pass counterfeit currency and fighting the police. That's the kind of crime that happens in economically depressed areas.

Yeah, its not like there's a cop car he was next to that he could have been tossed into by the 4 cops. Nope, way easier to just keep guys on top of him for 7 mins, one with a knee on the neck (a bit of a vital spot there you want to keep unobstructed. Pro tip incase you didn't know)

Its his fault for being pinned so long, not the fault of the people who are empowered to keep control that kept him pinned to the ground. Lol fucking clown world.

I'm 100% for empowering the police and giving them room to operate but they need to be held accountable for their actions when they fuck up.
Toss an unsearched guy you just arrested into a car then turn your back on him. Great plan.

That isn't authorized procedure. And even then it might not have saved him if he died from a stroke or whatever.

Procedure exists to cover their ass in no-win situations like this. Or is at least it is supposed to. You could make an argument neck cop was out of bounds. But that doesn't explain the other three being thrown to the wolves.

Hang the cops, there's nothing worse in the US than cops who murder.
They keep it up and it'll be open hunting season in the cities at this rate.

The four cops shouldn't have been fired, they should be imprisoned with guards that conveniently look the other way. Turnabout is fair play.

Maybe instead of pinning him for 7 mins until death one of the officers could have searched? Motherfucker was shirtless, just how many spots could he have hidden a weapon? He was some low level petty criminal not a ninja with hidden weapons.

Fuck, Officer Take-a-Knee was able to look away from him during this time. Must not have been much of a threat

is there actual proof of reports for these things happening? I checked out the account and it doesn't seem to be entirely devoted to impartially reporting possible crimes in Minneapolis.

Yes.

"This guy died because cops can't handle being yelled at" is a new one. Why don't you jog up a better retort?

if comedians can handle hecklers, cops should be able to put up with them just fine.

if this dude just came out and said that he just didn't care that an american citizen died during an arrest for a nonviolent crime, he wouldn't have to jump through hoops like this.
