I could enjoy his type of act if it wasn't so lazy and if there wasn't a sense of desperation always creeping through. He does have some presence as his character but then he just isn't able to do anything organic with it. It all ends up boiling down to a set of tropes that he just throws out there over and over, and never with much of an interesting twist to it. You never get the sense he has the same spark other comedians have in their head that lets them come up with something unique in the moment.

Someone off the street who saw that picture and didn't analyze it like an autistic person would say that the skirt was red in a later recollection. I'm not arguing the skirt actually is red. Either way it doesn't actually matter. I just think people arguing about it is dumb and people not acknowledging heuristics and errors in human recollection is dumber. The worst thing is if dick had any talent he could've used this incident to change his act into something self deprecating with self awareness. Imagine a restaurant that had an underdog story of a major chain trying to ruin their lives over dumb petty crap, and the underdog restaurant wins.
Now imagine the same restaurant after years of good will acting like this: Anytime you gave a restaurant a bad review the owner screamed at you all over twitter, gets his autistic employees to do the same, refused to get rid of the Xanax addicted seater who falls asleep while making food cause he lets the owner fuck his gf, the owner sucks the cock of the meanest food critics in order to make sure no poor reviews happen, they hire a staff of only autistic and down sydrome kids because a tax break for hiring window lickers is more important than the quality of service, the food over time becomes bland, they never spend their profit on improving anything, when they do catering events they really just are doing it to sleep with someone at that area, the owner and his austic friends hit on every girl who walks through the door and creep them out, the co workers keep spamming their home with weird fliers sayin if you don't come back you love that evil restaurant chain everyone hates, the owner is high all the time screaming at everyone about his 10/10 wife, find out he treats his wife like shit and does weird creepy sex shit to her, then if anyone makes fun of her he gets any credit card info on file from payments and any emails from rewards clubs stuff and vaguely throws it out there he knows what you said and has that info.
The reason why the fan base is so loyal is the reason many people stay loyal after long after shit gets cringe, its because they have a victim complex. They see themselves as constantly under attack by Maddox and his minions and while yeah, at one point is was legit, and yeah Maddox and co occasionally does stuff so stupid it always falls flat every time. They see themselves as righteous fighters who are super cool and dismiss everything else as tribalistic bad guys to protect their fragile egos from criticism
