To be fair I have never once claimed Maddox won. I just think Dax is class clown funny, the guy who always gets his laughs but it is from doing the same thing repeatedly to people who he already knows is going to laugh at it.
The more I listen to his act I'm of the opinion he's one dimensional and relies entirely on a supportive audience. If he was good on his feet when engaging with people he wouldn't need someone to mute the other person, half a dozen people to act as an on cue organic laugh track and asspats re-assuring him that he "is funny". If he was good on his feet he probably could have handled a drunk autistic Canadian heckler. If he was good on his feet he could have gotten out there first and mocked himself over the texts, therefore shaping the narrative and robbing his detractors of effectively using it.
I have gotten a few laughs from Dick and enjoyed some of his stuff but the more I think about it is the occasional good line in between a lot of LOUD IS FUNNY and it is always played to a supportive audience. I'm convinced the more I watch that he doesn't have the temperament or quickness of wit to handle hecklers, the charm to turn a hostile audience or ability to vary his routine to a live audience. My opinion, and it may not be one you or others share which is cool, is that Dax is class clown funny, as I've stated above, but doesn't have the skill set, mindset or talent to cut it on open mike or live audience, especially in LA where the competition for those spots is at its most cut throat.
I dont think Josh would go that far. At least I hope not, open to the possibility and dont like when something is dismissed out of hand via subpar reasoning
