Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Wikipedia’s has ceased to be a reliable source of information. I mean, the even lie about GDP numbers.

I agree, I wouldn't let anyone operate on me or repair my TV because Wikipedia says how :-) this being said it can at least point out in a general direction and then one can look for more. Otherwise imho we wouldn't have textbooks. For general things, to get at least a point of view they don't seem bad, but I certainly wouldn't consider them a quotable source (say in a paper or presentation). But say someone doesn't know what an electron is, a Wikipedia explanation is good enough at first, I think. If they are actually doing important physics it's not.

Regarding this virus, I haven't looked even once at what they say. First doctors were calling it covid-19, then patients were calling it corona so doctors were doing the same so people would understand, then covid became "leftie" and people who say Wuhan / Chinese virus are meant to be far right extremists (even if it did come from there). I have no idea if also "corona" is politically charged but I remember certainly until the beginning of April people were calling it like this.

So I just say virus or new virus in order not to waste time. If we understand what we are talking about I prefer not to be dragged into discussions about the name because it amounts to nothing - imho.

and you also said "So, at work I wear the fagmask to appease the bosses (they have no choice as the State makes them with the threat of shutting them down if they don’t) but I don’t anywhere else."

yes I understand you prefectly :-D and idk if you have that but also people wear the mask but when it's two of them and they are more ot less alone they remove it and say it's stupid :-D I also noticed that when maskless people cross each other on the street they smile. It's also difficult not to find it funny when they go around like welders with that "plastic shield" on their faces :-D

I have always maintained that it was a medical nothingburger and have been against this lockdown. I analyzed the statistics early on and concluded so. I saw this as being in the same league as Climate Change but on steroids: how dare you own a gas guzzler Vs how dare you not stay in your pod. The first one took years to pozz the population, the latter one, weeks.

The death toll numbers went out the window for me on 3/24 when they changed the definition of a death by Chink.

So let’s see: hospitals’ main source of revenue are elective surgery (verboten due to the Ching Chong) and the relief package gives them a 20% bump on Medicaid and others IF you classify them as WuFlu? It’s inexplicable how our death numbers shot up.

So, at work I wear the fagmask to appease the bosses (they have no choice as the State makes them with the threat of shutting them down if they don’t) but I don’t anywhere else.
I didn't know what to make of it at first because the two places hit badly first were China and Iran and good luck getting any transparency from them. When it hit Italy I was finally able to speak with some people I know who live there, and while they weren't saying it was nothing, they made it pretty clear it was almost exclusively deadly to the elderly and I didn't need to worry about them getting sick.

Even when I was a bit more worried about it though I never thought a lockdown of everyone would work in the U.S. I don't think it's sustainable and I don't know what we'll do if the "big one" ever hits, because I don't think people will put up with it long term even with a worse disease. It's not in human nature to live like that.

Anyone interested in Turkey Drama?

A rose garden in Oakland, Morcom Rose Garden, has been shut down temporarily. Basically, more people were visiting the usually-quiet garden because of the COVID-19 shutdowns limiting activities. This is not a bad thing at all, except for the fact that a small flock of turkeys in mating season live there. Male turkeys get territorial and aggressive during mating season, so there's been attacks.

1590693467740.png

Now, this has made people very upset. Wild turkeys are an introduced species to the San Francisco Bay Area (around the 1950s) and have lived in the garden for a few years. Apparently the male turkey that is causing trouble is a newer turkey to the garden, so he's less familiar with the status quo.
1590693696017.png

People are generally arguing that the turkeys should not be there at all, especially since they can cause damage to the roses. You can't just kill them, since even though they are non-native to Oakland, they're a North America native and thus it is highly regulated in California. Suggestions are to relocate the birds outside the garden to a different area, which would work because they don't have a rehoming instinct. The question would be where to relocate them to, and how to do it safely. Others argue that it would still stress out the turkeys to do so. I'm expecting a relocation effort eventually.

The NFL is trying to figure out ways to have games with only a limited number of fans in attendance. Don't think that will work. NFL could be in deep shit. Whatever. NFG.

The worse effect from the Nanny Staters is they are causing irrational pushback against even reasonable basic precautions like Masks. By politely recommending masks people were fine with it. But by demanding masks and the sudden inrush of empowered Karen’s seeking to police everybody, the General mood regarding masks has gone from quiet cooperation to one of “you can all go fuck yourselves”. Not wearing a mask has become an act of passionate rebellion against the authoritarians. And it’s sprung up in just a matter of days.
I think if any restrictions, no matter how minor, had been lifted immediately after the mask recommendations had been made, then people would have gone along with it. The Czech republic and Slovokia had their entire countries voluntarily wearing masks in about a week and half, but they didn't have the kind of lockdowns they did in America and they just made it a suggestion. Instead, they told us to wear masks, and then started making the rules even more stringent. the masks aren't seen as something that could potentially limit the spread of the virus, they're just seen as yet another way to make people's lives more difficult.

My local Home Depot has more signs and restrictions up now than when Coronavirus cases were at their peak. You're supposed to go by yourself(good luck going to the store in you have any kids), and you have to stay six feet away from everyone and wear a mask. I got to the checkout yesterday, and there were two employees sitting right next to each of them, and both of them had their noses uncovered. On the drive home I saw two women walking together one of whom was wearing a mask and the other wasn't. I can see how wearing a mask could slow the spread of the virus, but I don't know how effective it is when so many people are wearing them improperly. And of course it hasn't gotten really hot yet. How long are the restrictions going to to last when you have old people dropping dead from heatstroke because they have to stand in line outside the grocery store for 20 minutes?

I noticed that the pro lockdown people on this site don’t even come into this thread anymore. This is thread is getting boring without them.

Well I can pretend to be pro lock down but I have a really short attention span and lose interest fast.

"You drumph lovers are dumb for wanting to go out and earn money so your families can eat and pay rent. You should stay at home and starve so the hospital system doesn't get overwhelmed and nurses can make Tik Tok videos. If orange man told you to cut your genitals off you would probably do it. You are probably racist and hate women too."

Best I can do.

It was exciting when everyone thought this was a new airborne AIDS that was making people drop dead in the streets, but now we know that it's just pretty much just speeding up the deaths of people who were going to die in a few years anyway.

Reddit is where you need to go if you want to gawk at people demanding civilization to be homebound for 2 years and going "Is anyone else glad that coronavirus is forcing people to be as lonely and miserable as me? I hope it never ends".

Yea I thought this was the happening to end all happenings. Despite the media fear mongering, after a couple weeks it became clear it was a nothinburger. Disappointing but very profitable. I made a ton of money off this.

I feel like this stuff takes some practice. I work from home a lot, regardless of lockdown, and it's taken me a decade to learn my personal warning signs, and what I need to do to stay upright (go outside, see friends, work out - like your doc said). Now millions of people are having to go through the same process all at once, without any training, and in a high stress situation, that for a month or two there, looked pretty hopeless. It's an understandable mess.

Being AROUND people makes me miserable. It's so draining trying to run a normie shell over my real personality to interact with normies. Under "lock down" I've never been happier. I get to work, chill with my cat and not have to deal with stupid assholes face to face, pretending to be one of them. Maybe if I didn't have a ton of work to do I might be a bit stir crazy.

I wonder if the MSM will use happenings like the Minneapolis riots and Trump's Twitter EO to stop talking about the virus. They'll never admit fault outright but at this point, the "LOCK IT DOWN FOREVER, STAY IN FEAR CITIZEN" camp is fighting a losing battle. Same as how they flipped from "just a flu bro, precautions are racist" to their current stance. They'll just move on to the new thing to call racist and fascist and Wuflu will be out of the news cycle.

As for Lufthansa. I agree on principle. But you made that fucking law. So you have no idea how good it feels to see you get a cup of your own medicine after you've spent over a decade now doing this bullshit to the rest of us.
the Bailout isnt breaking any laws, unliken the other airline bailouts in southern europe.

Its also a real dickmove to make the by far best bailout plan a problem while demanding 750 billion of loans mostly backed by germany.

Michigan, USA

We finally have (preliminary) nursing home data: at least 1,216 out of our 5,334 dead were in nursing homes, or 23%. That number is expected to rise as more data is reported.

An Indiana businessman has two billboards on our states' border. One says,
"Now Entering Michigan. Really? You're Sure About This?"
The other says
"The Great State of Indiana Welcomes Michiganders to a Free-to-Roam State.
We Thank You for the Revenue."

Karl Menke, the 77-year-old Owosso barber who reopened his barbershop some time ago in defiance of the shutdown order, is still cutting hair. The Michigan Court of Appeals has ordered a local judge to issue a preliminary injunction shutting the barbershop down.
Karl Menke said:
I could care less. If they want to put me in jail, put me in jail. ... I will be governed — fair governing — but not ruled. This is a police state action.

A Flint bar that was going to reopen on May 28, in defiance of Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D)'s executive order, has changed its mind and will await her permission.

SHUTDOWN SHOWDOWN
Shelter-in-place order from Tuesday March 24 to Monday April 13. Friday, May 1, Friday, May 15, May 28, but May 22 for the farthest north, May 21, kind of? But also June 12 May 1, maybe? (archive May 21) (executive order saved on KF) . The Republican-controlled legislature has refused to extend Governor Whitmer's emergency authority. Governor Whitmer insists her emergency orders are all still in effect (Rundown on the laws).
State attorney general Dana Nessel (D) is also leaving enforcement of the stay-at-home order to local discretion until the courts weigh in on it (archive). She has stated Governor Whitmer's orders are valid and are to be enforced (archive). The legislature is not calling for civil disobedience at this time (archive).
The legislature has filed a lawsuit against the governor (archive). Oral arguments were heard May 15 (archive). A Court of Claims judge has ruled in favor of the governor. The legislature has appealed.
State senate leader Mike Shirkey (R) is also supporting a petition drive to change the law. Such a petition would require 340,047 signatures to be collected. It would be veto-proof if approved by the legislature, and would go on the next general election ballot if denied by them (archive 1, archive 2, archive 3).
U. S. Rep Paul Mitchell (R - The Thumb) has filed a lawsuit independently against Governor Whitmer, in federal district court. Link, pdf on KF. He has also founded a committee to work on the petition recommended by Sen. Shirkey.
There have been over a dozen lawsuits against Governor Whitmer's actions during this crisis, mostly regarding the shut-down order, in various stages of progress and in various courts (summary of eight of them). However, "all deadlines applicable to the commencement of all civil and probate actions and proceedings" are suspended until the end of the states of emergency and disaster. Executive order, and thus in limbo. (archive).

OTHER SHUTDOWNS

Massive phone-tracking project reveals Michigan travel is nearly back to normal (website).
The State is facing a $2.5 billion budget shortage (archive).

HEALTH CARE
Hydroxychloroquine banned by governor's order (archive). Nevermind LOL! Now she's asking the federal government for it and claiming the ban was a mistake in the first place. (archive). Detroit-area hospitals are testing the drug's effectiveness as a preventative on first responders and health-care workers (archive). Article on results, May 8 (archive).
Up-to-date count of available hospital beds, etc. in the State (the Detroit area is "Section 2, North and South.")(government website)
State of affairs May 5 - about half as many hospitalized cases and ICU cases as on April 12 (archive).
Detroit field hospital, capacity 1,000, closed. Never had many more than 20 at any time. (archive, May 7).
The state is going to add "probable" deaths from Coronavirus to our death tolls. (archive - May 20)

LAW AND ORDER
All localities given more discretion to release prisoners early (archive). It was an executive order. Who knows if it's still valid?
Detroit shootings up, but most other crime down (archive - April 30); Muskegon police report crime is up (archive).
Breaking the lockdown is a misdemeanor, punishable by $1500 fines and 90 days jail time. (Still valid???) Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has stated there will not be a "ramp up" of police enforcement (archive). The attorney general has left it to local law enforcement to close businesses, as her hands are full with price-gougers and con artists (archive).
The police cannot, at present, pull drivers over simply for being out during the shutdown (archive). Multiple sherrifs from the rural north to Detroit suburbs have stated they will not be enforcing or not strictly enforcing parts or the entirety of the order (archive). An increasing number of businesses are quietly ignoring or publicy defying the shut-down orders.

OFFICIAL DEATH TOLL

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reviews deaths and adds overlooked cases to the count three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (usually). Recovery counts are updated on Saturdays.
14 deaths were added yesterday, and 17 today.

MDHHS said:
Regular reviews of death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems are conducted by MDHHS staff three times per week. As a part of this process, records that identify COVID-19 infection as a contributing factor to death are compared against all laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). If a death certificate is matched to a confirmed COVID-19 case and that record in the MDSS does not indicate the individual died, the MDSS record is updated to indicate the death and the appropriate local health department is notified. These matched deaths are then included with mortality information posted to the Michigan Coronavirus website.

If anyone wonders. Busy day, but not for any covid reason. I heard the "reconstruction comittee" was an utter clownshow with the right calling the left terrorists and the left responding by calling them "golpistas" (which means people who want to take over a country by military force) and nothing got done, which, yeah what did they expect would happen. But sadly I can't even bring the real keks because I did not have enough time. Also the stocks have been a fucking shitshow for most people with a giant dip in the middle, but most recovered and wound up green, including spain, so yay for 7th consecutive day of good news. which is something our sorry economy hadn't seen in 8 fucking years. Aside from that, Nissan closed shop and that does hurt spanish economy, so fuuuuuuck. But at least our protestors only burnt rubber on the roads and didn't steal shit, because unlike the afroamericans (note: not africans, not black people, specifically afroamericans.) they are not fucking savages. I seriously don't get why rioters who actually steal shit in america get away with it. Do that shit in europe you're finding out the consequences the bad way.

Either way, slight spike but not noticeable so shit's ok. Decent enough day.

It seems to be breaking the law, or at least the EU is making a good case, so I'll have to check further how you managed to border the law (if you did). I do agree on the second point though. That's why I say what europe needs is freedom. This kinda bailouts being illegal is fucking retarded and I hate the EU for writing the law. Just 'cause I point out the (percieved) "poetic irony" (at least it is in my opinion) doesn't mean I don't think you're actually right. I just want these damned bullshit regulations erased. Preferrably alongside the EU as a whole.

Lockdowns work in autistic societies like Germany and Japan. The US isn’t fully cucked yet and we’re raised to question authoritah (at least we used to be).

this kind of bailouts isnt illegal, the EU had no problem when southern airlines got a bailout, and those bailouts sucked if compared to the german one.
The EU is just playing favours for Italy and others while demanding money from germany.

the 750 billion are the worst! Its just a giant slushfond for the EU and southern governments. It will help not one bit!
south Europe shouldnt get money till they unfuck their governments.

Well if it's any consolation we're currently mobilizing to investigate like half of those fuckers for all sorts of different corruption charges so it seems we're gonna see a repeat of the Urdangarin and balear triggered purge we had last time. That one unfucked a lot, hell it even took the motherfucking king down, so maybe you'll get your wish. I'm hoping for that anyway, 'cause it's my wish too and boy there's a lot to unfuck. But we'll see. Either way kinda rich to ask us to unfuck our government when from what I'm hearing it seems northern european governments are not that pure either. And over here the bloody EU delegates always support the most corrupt assholes they find. Just every fucking time like clockwork. Then again it was said corrupt assholes that got us into the EU to begin with, so quid pro quo... But seriously you just saw what sweeden pulled, and I have many choice words about the continued circus that is the french government. Fuckers can't elect a good president to save their lives. So I'd say all in all at least we're fighting corruption semi-effectively. I say semi because the Pascual fuckup is still there and oh boy will that lead to actual violence at this rate. Specially with the mareas dragging their fucking feet, someone's gonna solve that one on their own and they will kill a lot of fucking people doing so.

The NFL is trying to figure out ways to have games with only a limited number of fans in attendance. Don't think that will work. NFL could be in deep shit. Whatever.

Yeah, the NFL has been fucked for a while now. It just didn't have the heft and forethought to anticipate something like covid. Though realistically, who could?

That said, between players injecting themselves into politics and dragging the NFL along with it and then doubling down on it disenfranchised a lot of football fans from the big leagues. Focus was well on the way of shifting to college leagues and small potato local sports. I'm thinkin that sentiment will only get stronger as lockdown eases further.

Big league sports are expensive for fans and they're finding better things to put their time and money into. I figure that has NFL and other leagues terrified.

(sorry for the double post)

re: HIV doesn't cause AIDS. I thought the poster was a troll, then I saw that there is something called "HIV/AIDS denialism" and people actually believe that with awful consequences:

(source: Wikipedia - yes, non scientific, but see below, I will be including a scientific source with about 50 references):

I really think these people are crazy and they do cause harm though. Giving very wrong and harmful medical advice re: AIDS or this new virus is like saying "I'm no electrician, but I believe that sticking your fingers in a plug doesn't give a shock. We are conditioned to think so. The electric chair never worked, they were actors." but here we go (the wiki and the scientific article's source are below):

"In 2008, activist Christine Maggiore died at the age of 52 while under a doctor's care for pneumonia. Maggiore, mother of two children, had founded an organisation to help other HIV-positive mothers avoid taking antiretroviral drugs that reduce the risk of HIV transmission from mother to child. After her three-year-old daughter died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 2005, Maggiore continued to believe that HIV is not the cause of AIDS..."

(no use arguing with these people. We can present all the evidence in the world, they will shut it down - "the WHO says no masks" - fingers in the ears and "woowoowoowoowoo")

and

"In 2007, aidstruth.org, a website run by HIV researchers to counter denialist claims, published a partial list of HIV/AIDS denialists who had died of AIDS-related causes. For example, the editors of the magazine Continuum consistently denied the existence of HIV/AIDS. The magazine shut down after both editors died of AIDS-related causes. In each case, the HIV/AIDS denialist community attributed the deaths to unknown causes, secret drug use, or stress rather than HIV/AIDS.Similarly, several HIV-positive former dissidents have reported being ostracized by the AIDS-denialist community after they developed AIDS and decided to pursue effective antiretroviral treatment."

("you have aids because you take drugs!" - "I don't" - "Well you do anyway")

this is 20 years old but very much relevant:

Good luck in your search. So far nobody here or in any other forum has located the paper. Perhaps you'll be the first!

Hello - because of your ingrained belief that HIV doesn't cause AIDS, you will not accept the evidence unless you personally will need retrovirals. It is common in monodelusions.

Consider talking to a psychiatrist because sometimes monodelusions carry dangerous consequences.

Here is one paper with the history of AIDS:

Here Gallo and Barre-Sinoussi postulate that HIV causes AIDS. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6189183/

And also all the subsequent papers since the 1980s.

But since nothing will convince you there's no point in anyone here talking with you about it.

Sleep well and have a nice day.
