Also logistically riots rarely extend to suburbs. its just the way suburbs are set up combined with populations and police response times. you would only get violence there if the civil unrest extends to where people form actual groups and plan to cause havoc.

Now that the police are pulling out, and armories have been looted, and uprisings are going nationwide, this is slowly starting to remind me of Albania in the 1990s. There was an economic collapse, everyone's businesses closed down, people were furious at the government based on perceptions that they were being abused by corrupt leadership, and the government was toppled. Look up "1997 Pyramid crisis."
I don't think that the whole country is going to descend into anarchy of course, but I think that we could see some localized versions of that for a period of time in areas like Minneapolis and Detroit. Hopefully. Maybe.

i'm always amazed at that, how could Balkanization work in the US, you would just have the north east, west coast, and then the other 40 states forming what would just be considered "real america" balkanization would never be able to happen because the people that have the most to gain from it are the ones that least want it and the people that have the most to lose are the ones that would want it.
