Twitter Hides POTUS Tweet

Trump threatens something that could affect the farms (as empty as it may be) and there are still going to people defending his actions on KF to OWN THE LIBS. I've been saying this for years, Trump is just a lolcow who somehow became the fucking president.

I can see Twitter going "Fuck it! We're an editorial platform now!" and going full force on self censoring and can't see them going "You're right, papa Trump! We'll stop fact checking your posts and promoting liberal viewpoints over conservatives!"

I'm no fan of Laura Loomer but didn't she sue Facebook and get them to admit they're a publisher, and therefore responsible for what people post? I remember that being big news.
I guess the point being that even if it comes to pass will it even change anything?

It's incredibly unlikely the president is going to somersault through the several dozen legal hoops necessary just to appeal Section 230, especially when anyone (particularly his younger voting base) can tell him that's not a very good idea. He's threatening Twitter to demonstrate what could happen if they don't play ball. He's done this in the past with geopolitics, now he's trying it with domestic media companies. Remember when he was "going to kill net neutrality"?
Yeah guys relax the president isn’t going to make the Internet a shittier place, he’s just considering it. No need to worry.

so basically tldr repealing means all who have legitimate hate boners for kiwi farms can actually do something about it. emirate?

There are already venues to do that, Kiwifarms just happens to have very stupid enemies. Encyclopedia Dramatica has been taken down a couple hundred times, for example.

I’m not saying we all should scream and run around in circles but being

This is the same website that mocked "monitoring the situation." He's still "monitoring the situation", but now the "situation" looks more dismal for Null, so now we're expected to take it several degrees more seriously. I don't see a reason why. You would think after four years of this president, people would be familiar with his tendency to make bombastic demands and then gradually dial them down to something more reasonable.

yes but it'll make it more easy to do so..

Where I'm confused about all this is that where is the line drawn between free speech and a private platform enforcing its own right to self-police content.

I'm pretty confident Ajit Pai can keep the decision above board and come up with something that respects the original intent of the law and curbs some of the abuses.

You can't be serious - that scumsucker has had a warrant out for the death of net neutrality since day one.

If they repeal Section 230 of the CDA I will close this site the same day and none of you will hear from me again.

Personally, I don't think Null is using this as some kind of "political protest", I think he would be an utter fool to leave the site up for even a day after 230 is wiped out, if that indeed happens.

For those who don't get it, Null would instantly become like the National Enquirer and be responsible and liable for every defamatory comment posted. But unlike the Enquirer, the Farms is mostly about people who are NOT public figures, and Null wouldn't have a Scientology-sized team of lawyers to help him.

Speaking of Scientology... yes, they have a couple threads here. I'm sure CO$' team of lawyers would enjoy seeing 230 undermined. I wonder what Westboro Church would think about this as well? They could go after every news outlet with a comments section that allows mean words about them. Cha-ching.

He could also be blamed for EVERY shooter manifesto published on this site, for every violent threat uttered, even if it appears to be in jest.

Can you imagine how much it would cost Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to manually review even a fraction of their content? Right now they get by mostly with piece of shit automated systems thanks to being shielded from liability if they screw up. If they could actually get sued for content they hosted, they'd have to spend real money on proper content review. Why the heck would they want that over the current system, where they can be arbitrary, incompetent, and cheap with zero consequences?

Sites like them literally rely on their snitch network to review content. That is why child porn thrives on their platforms.

Repealing Section 230 does not just spite Twitter. It emboldens Twitter to censor as hard as possible and jeopardizes any small forum without financial resources.
It's possible that with the executive order Trumps intent is just to fuck with social media companies, inviting various government depts to start investigations which if nothing else will cost the social media company significant amounts in legal fees, along with the possibility of having to produce documents and undergo a degree of scrutiny that they're not used to.

It will also affect investor confidence, if there's a 1 in 100 chance that a regulatory change will make a companies business model unworkable that's still a risk, a lot of institutional investors won't be happy with, particularly if they see it as being easily avoidable.

That said Trumps record at playing 4D chess isn't great,

Why are people so fucking complacent to just say "it will never happen"? Because all of his other promises are bullshit too? If he is just bullshitting to get a reaction, the reaction should still exist. People should be telling him from every side of the aisle: "this is FUCKING STUPID"

When they say that it'll never happen, they're also talking to you, who's arguably strongly convinced that something will happen despite his history of bluffs and adjustments.

Really surprised to hear this interpretation so prevalent in this thread.

Sounds like people are saying: Mr. President, please negotiate with big tech more politely. Corporations controlling public opinion may be an issue, but we're really interested in the convenience factor.
