Twitter Hides POTUS Tweet

I think you've got the inverse take.
Read the EO. He is threatting to have the FTC/FCC look into social media and their practices for "inconsistencies" in content moderation.

Let me give you an example. HIPPA is the big scary healthcare data protection law.

There is a sentance buried deep in the law "You don't have to actually implement any of these protections if it is not feasible. But if you fuck up, we can send a federal auditor to investigate, and you need to explain to them why you didn't implement, and you'd better do a good job".

I knew someone who went through a HIPPA audit for a (self-reported) breech. He said the auditor was extremely reasonable and accepted their justifications for about 90% of things he questioned, and about half of the other ones they took a "we'll look into the feasibility of implementing" as an acceptable answer. But his managment chain was losing their minds every day for about 6 months while this went on, even though nothing came out of it except they fast-tracked some already scheduled changes.

Lawfare of the kind the dems used with the EPA and Consent Decrees for years, 'be neutral or you will have to explain to and fight the government in court for years at a cost of hundreds of millions'.

This thread reminds me of the posts made in March-April 2020 on Wu-Flu Megathread because of all doomerposting made by many participants here.
Honestly?

Willful optimism can be just as destructive, if not more so, than doomerposting. Sometimes it is better to prepare for the worst case scenario so that you are not personally caught with your pants down and can relax when the crisis actually hits; This is what I did with Corona and it is why I have had a mostly stress free summer so far.

A lot of Trump supporters would let Trump shit in their mouths if it meant The Libs had to smell it.
This must be the fifth time this week I've seen this exact phrase. I know a lot of the Trump-haters here temporarily feel vindicated because of this, but if this is half as bad as the doomers say it is, the response against this should be as nonpartisan as possible.

But it won't, unfortunately, because now everything is about "getting one over" on the other side. I'm already seeing it with the posts screeching about Trump supporters.

Dude, you are like the most pessimistic person on here. You're like Marvin the Android and Dolorous Edd's love child.

But Section 230 gives a ton of power to Big Tech to control public opinion. If I had to choose which cartel to destroy first, would definitely start with Silicon Valley.
Everything you have said in this thread is absolutely 100% fucking retarded you stupid fucking clown. Your ignorance is making me mad on the internet. kys

Just a note on timing.

Trump gave a press conference today. Over the course of 10 minutes, he announced the following:

- America is withdrawing from the WHO

- America is kicking out Chinese students

- America will be barring Chinese companies from US Stock Exchanges

- America is eliminating policy exemptions with Hong Kong (end of trade preferences)

- America is sanctioning PRC and Hong Kong politicians.

Funny to think he woke up, started the day calling for Repeal 230, then moved on to unambiguously telling one of our largest trading partners to go fuck themselves.

IANAL but the order doesn't sound like a repeal

It sounds like it's saying nuking comments that doesn't violate TOS but is politically incorrect will get you in deep shit going forward.

@Captain Manning @AnOminous am I just missing something here? (:_(

That's a different issue, and there's practically nothing Trump can actually do about how courts interpret a law aimed at courts, telling courts what to do when addressing a defamation case before them. He isn't in charge of courts. This thread is about his idiotic threat to repeal Section 230, something only Congress can do but he's going to try to press for it. He can't do it with the House of Representatives as it is, where the majority will block it solely because Trump wants it.

It's still insanely fucking dumb.

You want platforms like Twitter not to be able to censor political opinions? Give anything with a market cap of $X Billion even broader immunity than Section 230 and treat them as a common carrier but they can't remove shit, ever, other than CP and spam to keep the network functioning, and can't ever kick anyone off, even convicted criminals.

If they repeal Section 230 of the CDA I will close this site the same day and none of you will hear from me again.

Repealing Section 230 does not just spite Twitter. It emboldens Twitter to censor as hard as possible and jeopardizes any small forum without financial resources.
The account is fresh but i've been lurking for years and my god, its funy i made this account just as another net-pocalypse rears its ugly head around the corner.
I really hope its a nothing burger as some legal savy kiwi's seem to be pointing out, but with the destruction of both net neutrality and now an attempt at damaging the 230 law it seems like corporate is hell bent on nuking the internet, leaving only the billion dollar/goverment backed websites that can afford the bunker to live on

It occurs to me that there is a distinct possibility that Twitter is outright baiting Trump into repealing CDA 230, since him doing so would be just peachy with them. It also occurs to me that either Trump or someone close to him MUST realize this on some level. It isn't that hard to figure out. It's plain as day that Twitter, Facebook et al would be pleased as punch about the prospects of bringing the hammer down HARD on anything that isn't sanitized corporatespeak advertposting and killing off hundreds of smaller sites which would result in Twitter, Facebook et al being the only sites wealthy enough to keep running and thus effectively being the only place to talk online at all after the dust settles. CDA 230 being dead is a net win for the social media giants.

He says stupid shit on twitter all of the time tho'. I would be surprised if he remembers what section 230 is in a month. If people are worried, just send an email to the white house saying that you're a Trump supporter but if he repeals it you just won't vote.

Huge if true.
