tl;dr: If Trump gets his wish and has Section 230 repealed, Null would have to bend the knee next time New Zealand sends him a salty email.

Not far back enough. I'd much rather travel back to 1995 when the overwhelming majority of online discourse happened over networks with a relatively high intellectual barrier to entry, such as Usenet and FidoNet.

I realised how exceptional that statement was shortly after posting it. That's why I amended it to include a reference to Null rage quitting before he'll bend the knee.

At the time the other choice was literally the person who embodies all the corruption in American politics and all of the other GOP candidates at the time were horrible.

Personally I think Trump is a mediocre president but if he actually follows through with this shit, he is just another shitty 21st century president.

This is what happens when two political parties control the country.

Because it would be even dumber to vote in a corrupt war criminal who instead of having twitter tantrums starts wars in the Middle East and has people actually killed than a braggart. I'd take someone whose anger coping mechanisms don't affect me nor any Americans in any meaningful way (or at least appear to).

Drumpf and the Dems are both coming at 230 for different reasons. Unlike Null, I doubt that Drumpf and his underlings ultimately want to do anything that would weaken their supporters on social media sites. All he really cares about is Twitter censoring his tweets. The changes you would need to worry about would come from the otherside. They're the ones who actually want more censorship and top down control.

In fact you could thank him making people scramble in defense of safe harbors and ensuring we get a clarification now rather than when a Dem President is in charge and every Twitter bluecheck is in favor of removing it.

The irony being that boomers invented said technologies. That said, the only boomers left on said old-timey platforms are usually based.

You know if Trump goes after 230, it would just make it popular among the right and if the Democrats go after it, then it would be seen as something "appealing" to both sides.
