I'll put it in a more academic term. The bois at the U.S Military are itching for a fight. They hadn't have one since the pullout of Afghanistan and Iraq. They are also disgruntled by the fact that their lives in the military are stressful and miserable at points. They need to vent. And also, some of these bois have a career to lose if they do not obey orders so they will carry it out.

I was thinking about this earlier.

The SBA and unemployment are already over a barrel, and any business still around was operating on a shoestring.

Like I know local business owners here in Calabama taking money out of their own pockets to keep a full compliment of employees busy through a 40% reduction in business.

It might be time to bring out the fork, 'cause we feel kinda done.

Damned if they do damned if they don't really. They let it all burn down everyone's gonna blame them for not putting a stop to it once the smoke clears. If they use force they'll be proving the protestors right that all cops are facist bastards and the cycle goes on.

Some notes:
  • Emeryville has an absurdly high minimum wage ($16.30, higher than SF's) which has driven out several businesses
  • The areas where much of the looting was centralized has apartment buildings close to or even on top of the businesses. Yes, they are exorbitant in rent.
  • Many of the businesses have been shut down for months because of COVID-19 and the Bay Area's strict approach.
Basically, I think Emeryville's economy is going to make a turn for the worst soon.

the first part is somewhat true-ish, if you can pick n choose ; your career as a government peon meant to wage war, to NOT do so and simply perform drills/maintain training standards or fight, the choice is obviously do fuck all, go to college and try to GTFO
