My colleagues Sam Stanton and Paul Kitagaki Jr. got pushed down and robbed tonight. Paul got his camera stolen. Some kid tried to grab my phone while I was livestreaming people vandalizing property and looting. I nearly got jumped in Downtown Sacramento before I bugged out of there.

Later, Midtown became one of the most unsafe places I've ever been. Small groups of 10 or fewer mostly young men just wandering around smashing things and tagging.

At one point, we saw a guy lift his shirt to show off his piece to a motorist who looked at him a tad too long. The two colleagues I was with got the hell out of there after that. At that point, I decided to call it a day.

For the record, the people doing these things are not protestors. The leaders of the large, highly organized marches that I'm guessing tallied close to 1,000 people earlier in the day took to the bull horns, urging everyone to express their frustration over police brutality in ways that hurt no one.

I watched Stephon Clark's brother and other local activists wade into the rowdy splinter group and beg and plead with them not to riot and loot, saying it put them all at risk and was counterproductive to what the majority were there for. They ran off anyway to go break stuff.

I'm trying to think of a way to end this post artfully, but I can't. I'm tired. My feet hurt after doing another 12 miles tonight. Good news is I only breathed tear gas one time, so there's that.
